i tried to be clever...[nice try!] <he should've known better *rolls eyes*>

i wanted to avoid the infamous "death brackets" but shoot for blue Fury and new shiny X-force v2.0 covers all in one go.
You know that two birds, one stone jazz...
i figured with work and pVe i would need at least somewhere around 15 hours to accomplish "the mission"
it all started off well enough.
made the climb, not as smoothly as i would like but not so bad.
i shielded at 808 pts or something like that at T-minus 12 hours
Tempos had taken an early lead at 1022.
"So that's the guy i got to beat" i thought to myself.
Fast forward three hours later, and i' hop, skip, jump over the dude.
"Lucky~♪" i think to myself as i break into the 1100s.
From there to Fury is not so bad.

ENTER: Bubbleboy

Now this is a dude i definitely remember cuz i always wonder if he is really living in a bubble. <it's nice to think that people from all walks of life can enjoy this game>
for those of you that don't know, Bubbleboy is a member of the legendary SHIELD(with all periods except the last one)
Now although those guys no longer break the TOP10 often you have to realize it's not because they can't, they just don't really feel like it.
But when they do feel like doing something, WATCH OUT!
And boy oh boy! i've never seen someone climb so fast!
i checked his roster and see that he, too, is in need of a black new shiny X-force Wolvie v2.0
Anticipating a race, i try to put some distance and squeek a match in here or there.
Pushing up to 1408.
but all was in vain and that bubbledude tap danced his way to 1434 or something like that with 1hr30 minutes left in the game.
Now being the amazing strategist that i am [no. just no.] i managed to cue up bubbleboy for a last hurrah attack should it come to it.
Here was the moment i've been waiting for!
Me vs one of the legendary members of SHIELD (with all periods except the last one)
i would hop past him around T-minus 40-30 minutes and hopefully he would wait it out until the end and unshield for one final push.
That's when i would snipe him! take victory and celebrate with my new shiny X-force v2.0 [now, now that's not nice!]

1 hour to go 1408 vs 14....1498?! (0-0;)
When did that happen?
Damn! i have to catch him! But i am still being hit while shielded. [ladies and gentleman, this guy still needs to work on his roster before playing with the Top guns]
Relax...calm...down we still have a chance! We still have 40 minutes left to go! <what do you mean "we"? You're not Venom, you know. and you do realize they will put X-force as a 1300 prize. Swallow your pride, save the HP and let it go>
That's right! Awwww i really wanted the new shiny X-force v2.0 and the honor of defeating a SHIELD (with all periods except the last one) member but not tonight.
not tonight.
and pVp ended 15 minutes ago and the new pVp has yellow shiny X-force v2.0 covers at 1300! Woo-hoo! Thanks brain!
And congratulations Bubbleboy! This will be another battle i shall never forget! ☆-(^ー'*)b [well maybe, he has a really bad memory]

tldr don't mess with them SHIELD (with all periods except the last one) dudes n dudettes when they want to get things done. Free Willy!!Oh shnap i have pVe grinding to get back to!! Toodles!!

  • Hehe, a full day at work and a need to sleep stopped me getting more than the token 1022. I doubt I'd have gone more than 1300 for this one though as I didnt need the placement rewards.

Glad you atleast got a bit of excitement out of the game icon_e_smile.gif

i was wondering if you were just being dramatic and waiting to the last second to pull of an amazing shield hop considering how fast you made it up to 1022 lol

Anywhoo, good on you! look forward to seeing you again out there!!(^^)

I'll wager he has a good enough memory.

Last time Bubbles and I were in the same bracket he came out of nowhere, too. I somehow edged him out by a single point.

This time I sit below you at third because I pushed a second match and was hit by his fellow S.H.I.E.L.D member, Nemek, as I took too long to finish. Otherwise with 35 minutes to go would have been 46 points to the better and still willing to press on. 90 points was just too much with only 15-30 point nodes populating.

    Good battle to you both.

    Until next time.

  • Thanks for the great run, Fight4thedream. I do feel a little bad for having to take this one from you. You pushed a pretty high score for your roster, and should be proud of that. Best of luck to you for the next covers. Keep up the good work!

Anything is achievable. I beat slobofix in Beast PVP. It cost me dearly though and I'll likely never try that again.

It was great battling with you, too, Morak. i noticed your last push and wondered if you would try and go for it but it seems we both saw the futility of our situation. Well there's always next time!

No worries! You definitely earned it fair and square so no hard feelings bubbleboy!゙

i will say that i'm still mystified by your ability to navigate through the last minute zombie hoard. people like to think higher end play is simply Sentry = win but i think players like yourself show there is still is an element of strategy, timing, experience and of course luck to it. thanks for the kind words of encouragement! hopefully in our next encounter i will be on better footing to face you. Until then! ☆⌒o(*^ー゚)b

While i agree with you in principle, the risk far outweighed the reward. i would have at least had to do two more shield hops to even have a shot taking first and that hinged largely on bubbleboy either a.) not pushing anymore or b.) pushing at the end. considering the time constriction and the state of my roster (an unleveled Capt. Marvel and weak 4 blue covered Hood) i was a prime target for points. best case scenario, i somehow manage to do two shield hops and pull in front of bubbleboy and he decides to not push any longer. but it really would have taken a miracle for me to get the 3 or 4 wins necessary unscathed in the last 40 minutes of the event. Not only that, my gut instinct told me that bubbleboy was willing to go the distance. which left it at a question to when he would do his next move. if he made it before the last 3 minutes of the event, it was over. there was no way i could snipe him and expect not to get hit. but honestly, even if he waited till the last 3 minutes i felt that there was probably at least one person who had me lined up for their last minute push considering i was "easy pickings" compared to the other sharks in the water.

but what really sealed the deal was the realization that i don't have enough ISO anyway to buff X-Force for serious pVp play. if i somehow managed to win, it would be a Pyrrhic victory as i could get the same cover later on for less cost/stress and when i would actually have some more ISO. so i accepted my defeat, learning humbly that i still have much to learn and do.

Agreed. Sentry makes it easier to get high points, but it's still a lot of luck and timing. People need to realize too that once you hit the top tier of points not only are targets harder to come by, but you become such a huge target yourself that it's only safe to do one or two fights per shield hop.

This is where it's handy to have one or two or more alliance mates that are far enough ahead in their brackets or not worried about first, just top 5, that can tank in to you in the last minute. I didn't need it in my case because slobofix didn't do a last minute push, but if she had I would have needed it.

Imo, xforce will be playable over 180. He's that nasty.

And for the record, bubbleboy scares the heck outta me. Nothing seems to slow him down. His rocket to the top only failed with me because I added over 95 points in the last 10 minutes in desperation and he ran out of time.

I firmly believe he's that good he knows down to the minute how long he needs to hit a target score.

Looks like it ended up being 3 points XP Too bad you didn't hop one more time, it would have been an easy 1st place finish.

Don't remember what the rewards were for that event. I'm sure we could find them in the events section (hk ending mid aug) either way, I probably didn't need them, and grinding season points wasn't worth the hp.
