Time for a good purple ability

With the character changes going through soon(ish), we're becoming even more limited with decent purple powers. Deadpools is ok but 14 ap is lot, OBW's is excellent but she is far too weak and Falcons ability is kinda unexciting. (Yes there are other characters but none of them are really competitive).Any chance of some change to this?
Personally I'd love to change psylocke from red/blue/black to red/purple/black. Think it could push her to a higher tier and give a bit more variation.

Or of course give Loki a third power icon_e_smile.gif

Whatever color you give to that skills of hers, it'd still be awful and useless. Like you said in your own subject line, we need GOOD purple abilities.
  • I've been banging the "Psylocke should have a purple power" drum for a while now. The fact that she doesn't have one is just stupid. It's as stupid as having a green Hulk without a green power. The obvious choice would be to move Bewilder to purple, since it's an AP steal, but that doesn't really help make her a more viable character because it's a marginal power as easily ignored on purple as it is on blue. It would be much more interesting to move her red, a wildly over-represented color, to purple instead. Having a fast, strike tile producing nuke on purple would certainly help find her a place on more teams, and gives us another decent purple power which we so desperately need.
  • I guess they can't really move red to purple for Psy, since purple abilities are not supposed to make strike tiles (?) and it's a prerogative of green/red/sometimes yellow.
What could improve Bewilder besides changing it to purple? Making it punish non-rainbow teams; dealing damage when Psylocke steals a colour the enemy can't use, including TUAP if the enemy did not bring Team-Ups (player) or has already spent their only TU (AI). As a tradeoff, it could also hurt herself a bit if she steals a colour her own team cannot use. I also think the ability should have a 2-turn CD on all levels and just deal significant damage for non-rainbowness at lvl 5. It would be fitting for purple because purple is connected to manipulation and can do damage situationally. If that's too strong, make Bewilder only deal damage on level 5 then, that would be a good incentive to choose between 5/3/5 and 4/5/4.

This game design concept of theirs that certain kinds of powers only belong on certain colors went out the window a long time ago. With the addition of Deadpool and Fury we now have AoE damage powers on every color. There's four healing powers on three different colors, stuns on three colors, and board shakes on five colors. There are certain trends and themes, like attack tiles on black, but there really isn't as much standardization as they would like you to believe. I'm not sure saying they can't make a power do something on a given color stands up anymore, if it ever did. They can when they feel like it. They use it as an excuse when they don't.
  • I think shulk would benefit from turning her red to purple. There are several better reds but if it was purple only deadpool's would be better. Plus the color makes sense with her.

I would like a general theme and not detract from it too much; the following points have already been mentioned and I agree with them. Imagine combining Patch, Thor and Sentry's offense, but since they cover same colours, not much sense in it. Attack tiles are usually generated by black abilities so that you can't just bring HT, Punisher and Doom and attack tile the enemy to death on half the rainbow, same with stuns, only the 1* Venom has a purple stun and most best stuns are on colour blue (Cap, cStorm, mBW, Spider-Man's... is still better than Moonie's), so that you can't just stunlock the AI with any AP you happened to have.
Purple is all over the place, agreed, but giving strike tiles to it is not something I would like to see, whereas AP stealing and messing with the enemy situationally would be alright for purple. Can we agree that just giving Psylocke a purple power would make her much better? icon_lol.gif
  • I think there's this theme of purple power can only go to guys who are spies or ninjas, and yes I know Psylocke is supposed to be some kind of ninja, but apparently not ninja enough to get a purple power.

They've already significantly deviated from like powers on like colors to the point where it can't really be used as a justification for power balance, not to mention stripping powers of color and character linkage by introducing TUs further diluted any kind of color theme that might have once been intended. Patch, Thor, and Sentry may have the same colors, but what about Thor/BP/Deadpool. Three big AoE nukes on three different colors. Or BP/Punisher/Fury, three strike tile generators on three different colors. Most stuns are blue, but Cap Marvel's is black (yes, and Moonstone's for what that's worth), and Venom is everywhere in PvE. Attack tiles are about the only thing localized on one color, black. Everything else is already all over the place.

She has purple hair, a purple costume, and her signature powers are purple. That she doesn't match purple and have a power using purple AP is so insane it makes my head hurt. It's not that a purple power would make her much better so much as her not having one makes no sense at all. Moving her blue to purple wouldn't do much to make her better because it's still a really so-so power. Moving her red to purple would however make it much easier to find a reason to fit her into a team. Even moving her black to purple would serve that purpose, and red/blue/purple has its own kind of appeal for the purplest character outside of Purple Girl.

You can't say Deadpool's purple is too expensive if Thor's COTS at 14 green is an awesome green power.

Yes you can. There are plenty of green generating abilities but zero purple.
  • Thor is also much more likely to stay around long enough to use his 14 green ability versus Deadpool's 14 purple ability even without any AP acceleration abilities due to him having a lot more HP than Deadpool.

i agree, the reason Thor's green is a good ability and better than deadpools for the same cost is cause of Thunderstrike fueling it, 14 is hard to get to but in practice we all know that more than half the time a thunder strike leads to a call of the storm. There's no one that generates purple to fuel Deadpools 14 ap.

I love GSBWs purple it's such a good fuel ability and you get a ton of ap in other colours too from the 4/5 matches you make with it. And since thor came up I guess it's a good time to ask, shouldn't his yellow be called call the storm because your fuelling his green which is the storm, I feel like a thunder strike should be more damaging than a call for a storm
