Cover Reward Changes

Before the recent Doom pvp you could place top25 and with a top100 alliance reward you could get 1 of each cover, guaranteeing you steady progress for steady game play.
Now with this new change top25 will get you a duplicate of 1 cover and one additional one. You now need top5 to get the same progress as before. Incentivizing you to shield hop which requires spending/buying coins.
This is another change that I find it hard to see as something other than another monetization cash grab by the devs. This game is constantly reminding you it is p2w (over nerfing characters, true healing, reward structure changes).
Can anybody spin this another way?

Yah I noticed this too and it really sucks. As someone who is doing a 2* to 3* transition and tends to finish top 100 individual and Alliance I now end up with 2 of the same cover rather than one of each of 2 different ones. It makes it a lot harder to get the ones you want, especially as diversity of characters is making it more and more difficult to get a cover you NEED. Why did you do this Devs? Bad idea.0

I had noted this in the bugs and pve sections, but clearly those have not been effective, unless effectively ignored counts. I was going to post this in the General Discussion section, but I needed two black Marvels so I was going to wait....
I find it fairly odd that The X-Men make an announcement that they will begin keeping their scores within sanity (thanks again by the way); then, suddenly MPQ makes a change that should make scoring higher a larger priority for everyone. Huh???? Essentially, what the change does is make individual scoring a priority over alliance scoring. Meaning, it is now even more important to score high points as an individual than as an alliance. Also, it seems that the top tier cover will be the 1100 reward on the next pvp under the new format. Meaning you better at least score 1,100 if you want that cover or did not get T5 in the previous PVP.
Of course they have balanced this by....umm....oh that's right... they have not balanced this. It's okay though because I understand the reason for it due to their well worded announcement stating....umm....oh that's right....there was no announcement.
I have news for you MPQ. NO ONE WANTS YOUR YELLOW BEAST COVER AS AN ALLIANCE REWARD! (Black Marvel cover yes.)
So now between Fury for some 1sts and 1300 Progressives, buffed X-Force for some firsts and 1300 Progressives, T-5 and 1100 progressive being the only way to get certain covers (Please do not say tokens because no one can say that with a straight face...no one.), we are guaranteed to have insane PVP scoring. So instead of a single stressful season reward to worry about, players get to worry about every single PVP going all out.
Call me a conspiracy theory nut, but you said that you do not make a siginficant amount of money on shields. I'm guessing you will not be able to say that next time. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

I didn't even think about the 1100 progress reward being the one you miss out on for not making top5.
Reason being is that I have never even made it to 900. I think my highest score ever was 850~
Some type of communication would have been great. I really liked how they laid out their thought process being the CMags and other character changes but nothing about this. Lovely.0 -
Having 1100 match top 5 is pretty silly. If you have 1100 and you aren't at least looking at the top 5 from where you are standing then either A) you don't need the cover anyway unless its a new hero or your bracket is laughing at your misery. Either way, the 1100 cover should probably be the top 100 cover in most cases.0

I really don't like the change to the same cover as both. If you are maxed out in that color, your "rewards" are nothing. I have a couple characters with 5/x/1 covers, it's going to suck to have the only obtainable reward be ISO. And this makes the characters even less usable, you can't even use their other low-covered abilities.
Alliance scored top 100 to get beast, I couldn't manage a personal top 100. So I'll be 0-0-3 in Beast after this: and I have to wait (2.5 days per PVP x 25 three-star characters...) -- almost three months before I have a shot to get ONE cover of a different color? Granted they don't run the PVP's in order and they give some covers in PVE/Season rewards, but that's a long time before I can even use the other colors of this character. It's not like the new characters get put in heroic token pulls right away, three months is about when you start getting your 2% chance for one of 25 different 3*'s, hoping to get the right one.
I think I've mentioned it before -- even if people wanted to pay D3 money for HP to level the covers, they have to GET the cover first. You aren't doing yourself any favors by limiting the number of different covers that players can obtain!0 -

But now if they want the cover they have to get 1100. If more than four other people want the cover, then you will need more than the 1100 that they get to stay in the top 5. Plus, if there is a good 1300 progressive that five or more people want, you'll have to get at least 1300 for top 5.
That is what I am saying. The change is going to create bracket misery regardless if you're in a typcially tough bracket or not.0 -

Yeah, d3p needs to stop pretending all covers are equal. I understand that the nature of a game like this is that you can't always get the cover you want, and that it's good to give a variety of covers so people can buy themselves up to their desired number, but if you're giving out 2 YELLOW beast for rewards or making Sentry's Green frequently the hardest to get when he's offered, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG0 -
If you can finish top 25, three covers is three covers, so steady progress is not halted.
With these new characters, 2 covers in one color is going to help more than two spread out. You can soft cap higher and have one strong(ish) ability instead of two meh ones.
If you want the specific color so you can buy the others, then you probably got it during the initial release.
Being cover maxed in a specific color presents an issue, but then you make the decision whether it's important enough for you and/or your alliance to grind top 25 for one cover. I'm sure the max 3* roster guys aren't enthused when the Sentry they have maxed is offered, but they do what they have to for their teammates.
This is a meh change. The biggest issue with it is the macro issue of "Oh, hey here's a change we made, but didn't bother to tell you about."0 -
Not sure as to why the change but if more of the player base can hit 1100, then others should be able to get closed to it without hopping. They need to find some way for more players to hit 1100.0

This just flat out ... SUCKS ! I have a feeling we will be getting a visit from ICEIX as soon or shortly after the update. We should all ask him what this is about. I for one would love to hear the reasoning behind this.0

Reason: Because this what a majority of players that are not in top 100 alliances kept complaining about. (According to an alliance mate, they contact CS so they get heard better than people on forum.)
Translation: Also, money. (I could not help it, this was one the funniest thing I ever saw on forum.)0 -

Ive mentioned the reason rewards changes too lately and people didnt seem to care in my post. But yeah its for sure different this last week. It started with the daredevil rewards at 1100 actually and yes now the alliance reward seems to be the top 100 reward instead of the top 5 one. This seems to be on purpose.
I earn 5 3 star covers every even so the order doesnt matter for me. But someone trying to make a transition this sucks because before if they missed top 5 they still got that color from the alliance reward.JCTthe3rd81 wrote:I think I missed this. Wasnt an "announcement" about it. There were internal talks about it in the alliance and it was decided that its for the better to be slightly more casual in terms of the massive scores. Its always been my position that its generally not worth going much over 1100 in these events. 1300 is the cap of rewards so there is little reason to go past that. However there are people that wanted to for the sake of doing it. It became a competition outside alliances and within them as well. Its fine but people can burn out that way. So I personally think its great that people will scale it back a bit. It means obtaining higher scores for everyone else will be more difficult but its for the best.
Anyway Worldrunner made a post in someone else s thread saying that he was taking it easy on the massive scores and that many other XM were as well.0 -

Im in a way amazed with the stealth changes they keep making... Seems they are almost trying to push old players out of this game...0

Nope. Changes are good.
It's not quite the 'Alliance Reward Bracketing' I called for, but with this, it is at least POSSIBLE to get one of each charcater's cover without being in a 20-slot alliance.0 -
It is a pretty **** change and it is pretty **** that they didn't talk about it. PVP is the only way people have to acquire covers they don't have (so they cannot buy either). Being able to get all 3 colours from a top 25 placement + alliance reward was a godsend for transitioning players. There's seriously not a reason for this change other than to force people to attempt top 5 at the cost of shield-hopping.0
