This latest cover reward change they snuck in the latest Doom pvp is another reminder this game is indeed p2w.

To get 1 of each cover now you need top5. Before you could get top25 and with a top100 alliance reward you got one of each. Those days are now over.

Yet again rewarding those that already have (either money or rosters or both)

I thought most people didn't like how alliances turned out anyway and I personally think making the game less of 'will sell myself to a random alliance for a rare cover' is a good thing. It's not like the 'rare' cover was designed with any P2W aspiration. Captain Marvel's red is likely her worst power. Sure green is likely Beast's best power but Beast also totally sucks, and I'd certainly prefer having an easy Hypersonic Punch/Energy Absorption over missing a level of Animal Inside.

Now it'd be nice if they remembered which cover was rare and rotate that occasionally.

So, the basic concept with shield hopping is that you keep a shield up constantly once you reach a certain amount of points, break the shield only to play 1-3 games, and then re-shield before the retaliation comes in. More extreme versions of this technique include coordinating with high scoring players to leapfrog each other only when shields are up.

Shield hopping (not necessarily the coordinated kind) is an absolutely essential technique to place highly in a given PVP bracket. If you do not use this technique and you have a lot of points, someone will attack you and lower your score, meaning you're no longer at the top.

Being forced to maintain a shield using real-life currency is quite literally the definition of pay-to-win. You pay money for a shield and then you get to place higher in the tournament. Perhaps, if you pay enough and have a good roster that money even results in winning.

The fact that there is no way to win a tournament without paying D3 money is ridiculous, and I don't know why we stand for it.

There must be a better system than this. I know that D3 loves raking in the money on shields, but allowing shield-hopping to exist creates a direct link between how much money you pay and how high your score is. Whatever happened to fairness?

TL; DR: Umm...you get 100 HP from progressives in each PVP. Plus you can get another 100 HP if you make Top 10 Individual. And another 100 HP if allliance makes top 50. So that's enough for 3-4 shield hops (depending on how you do it) without spending money. And most of the time you do not need to do any shield hops to get top 10-25. You just have to have worked hard and long (no money required) to have the roster to do it.

But now that you mention it, another Google store sale like the last one would be great;)

I shield hop to 1300 if I need the 4*, if not to 1100 for the event cover, if not just 1000. Playing this game enough, you will eventually get all the covers you need, aside from the 4*'s by just playing in events, having a semi decent alliance and time. I dropped 975 HP on the last Fury 1300 reward, plus the 300 I got back it cost me 675 HP that I would have had to spend 2500, that was an awesome investment so there are a few things to be said. Honestly though, after you get 1300 pts there is really no reason to keep pushing, but people do it for fun, or a challenge or to keep their alliance high, but in the end what does that get you, a couple hundered extra HP that you more than blew pushing past 1300? I will shield hop until it does not make economical sense, if I have 5 X-Force green covers, I"m not going to blow HP to get to 1300
