New character opinion (thanos)

Ran my idea of thanos through a few friends that play and they love the idea. Hopefully you do too and would consider it in the future.

For thanos I thought his colour could be black blue and red.

Call his blue power "the Titan" power cost 10: where he makes his opponents surrender there 5 of all ap out of fear. But when they snap out of confusion they are enraged and gain a strike tile of 150..

Red power called "Eruption ": power cost 11. thanos breaks the groud all around you creating massive energy waves. Damages the enemy lead by 4000 and his supporters by 2450 and stuns them both for 2 turns. The energy overload creates an explosion that damages the enemy team (not thanos) for 1000 and Thanos must recover and is stunned for 1 turn.

Black power would be called "RUN" passive. Thanos strikes fear into his enemy's. Negates all countdown timers an makes them act as his own. The transformation damages thanos constant intimidation creates a strength 100 attack tile for each swap he makes.

I have a few ideas for doctor strange vision nova and carnage as well but thought I would start with this. Hope you like it

I absolutely LOVE this idea for thanos.

Great work I really hope D3 takes notice....... Brilliant icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • Great idea Immortal. I like it icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • Nice work!
My only suggestion it to avoid balancing abilities using negative aftermaths ( hello lv.270 Juggernaut! )

For example, stealing 5 APs could provide enough AP to wipe the opponent team with some other skill.
Then it would be pretty meaningless to grant your enemy some strike tile.
Same with "Eruption", since Thanos is unaffected.

And, you really should work the Infinity Gauntlet into this design icon_e_biggrin.gif

like deadpool, the infinity gauntlet should be some sort of gem collection boxes whereby you will only receive by defeating certain characters in the game. Once you collected all 5 gems, you will unleash the power to completely destroy your opponent (no matter who it is, PvP or PvE or how ever many hp they have) and you can only do that once per day. icon_razz.gif oh and make this the 4th ability.

would also be fun to start having oBW 1% chance to steal his gems.

If you are going to create Thanos he would have to be able to use all 6 colors since he is so closely tied to the Infinity Gauntlet which has 6 gems. I would love to see him as a 5* character, with massive hit points but slow skills but that has the ability to use all 6 colors, that would be fun. It would be cool if say all the sills cost like 15-20 but did massive dmg or board manipulation, but he had like 15K to 20K hitpoints.

The way to implement the infinity gauntlet is to have a move similar to avengers assemble. If you have 5 in a color, you activate a gem.
  • I would LOVE to have thanos on the roster. As a matter of fact, my first post on D3Publisher was titled "Bring on Thanos". He is an immensely powerful being, and furthermore, the Infinity Stones thing could totally play off of the color matching system in this game. Also, as the name would imply, he is my favorite Marvel character.
  • Here's some Thanos ideas I was toying around with a while back:

Thanos would be a 4* or 5* character. Thanos can only wield 3 of 6 possible powers, each relating to an infinity stone, at any time. This would mean players could have different Thanos colours and Thanos could be speced with any 3 colours. Match damage is equal for all colours until he is covered and then damage for the covered colour increases at the expense of a non-covered colour. Might need a new mechanic so that covers won matched existing covers once up to 3 colours?

Soul Gem (Green AP) - Allows the user to steal, control, manipulate and alter souls.
Thanos manipulates the targets soul, stealing up to X AP of their strongest colour and stunning them for Z turns
Upgrades - steals more AP, stuns for longer, steals all AP of the colour, does damage
    Psylockes blue with stun

Space Gem (Purple AP) - Allows the user to exist in any or all locations, move any object anywhere throughout reality and warp or rearrange space.
Thanos alters the very fabric of space and avoids match damage for X turns
Upgrades - team also avoid match damage, Thanos also dodges powers (no effect), team also dodges powers
Pumped up version of Hawkeye's Avoid

Mind Gem (Blue AP) - Allows the user to greatly strengthen and enhance mental and psionic power and access the thoughts and dreams of other beings.
Places X random colour tiles on board that increase Thanos' match damage.
Upgrades - place more tiles, increase team member damage too, decrease enemy match damage.

Reality Gem (Yellow AP) - Allows the user to fulfil wishes, even if the wish is in direct contradiction with scientific laws.
Change X random basic tiles to a random colour.
Upgrades - more tiles, effects strike/ attack / countdown tiles, does damage, player choses colour to convert to when casting
    A customisable Thunder Strike

Power Gem (Red AP) - Accesses all power and energy that ever has or will exist, and can boost the other gems' effects. Allows the user to duplicate almost any physical superhuman ability and grants Omnipotence.
Thanos casts a team mates ability at no AP cost. Can't fire downed team mate abilites.
Upgrades - can fire downed team mate abilities, fired at increased effect, fire enemy team abilities, enemy cannot use fired power for X turns.
    A modified team-up mechanic

The 6th stone (Time) is orange which doesn't match a game colour. Guess you could make a black power in its place.
Time Gem (Black AP) Allows the user total control over the past, present and future. Allows time travel, can age and de-age beings and also be used as a weapon by trapping enemies in unending loops of time.
Sounds like a heal/stun power with possible damage.
  • The only thing is that, Thanos being extremely powerful, and using all 6 colors, would be a solo character. This would be the only way to balance him out. He would probably have extremely high HP

  • Immortal here is one my ideas for him:

    star.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png
    Image
    healthpack.png 15,000

yellowflag.png Infinity Gauntlet (Active) 15 AP
Eager to please his only love, Death, Thanos harnesses the power of the Infinity gauntlet to destroy half the life in the Universe.

Level 1: Power Gem - Places 3 strike tile of [x] strength - 5 red
Level 2: Time Gem – + Stuns one member of the enemy team for 2 turns - 5 Blue
Level 3: Space Gem – + Teleports a barrage of meteors to pummel the enemy team - 5 Green
    Level 4: Soul Gem – + Steals [x] amount of AP - 5 Black
Level 5: Reality Gem & Mind Gem - + All 6 stones are used at once. At level 5 Thanos releases a massive blast of destructive energy + the abilities of the previous stones. 5 Purple

    blackflag.png Courting Death (Passive)
Death snatches her love from the grave and replenishes a portion of his health. Once 90% of Thanos health is depleted, death instantly heals Thanos
Level 1: Health is brought back to 25%
    Level 2: 35%
    Level 3: 50%
    Level 4: 60%
    Level 5: 75%

redflag.png Divine Power (Active) 12 AP
Thanos is one of the most powerful beings in the Universe. He releases a blast of fervent energy to vaporize his foe.
    Level 1: Does 1500 damage
    Level 2: 3000
    Level 3: 4500
    Level 4: 6000
    Level 5: 7500
  • I always thought it would be cool if Thanos could wield all six powers from the Infinity Gauntlet. If he were to be the only five star character, as rumored, he could be the only character to use six colors. Of course you'd have to figure out a way to integrate orange (perhaps a TU tile could work here) but it would be a different dynamic. If Thanos were to be treated as a boss-type character, maybe he could have health and powers proportionate to three characters collectively. Selecting Thanos at the character select screen would lock up the other two slots, effectively making him the only character you could use in battle.

The Infinity Gauntlet #1 was the first Marvel comic I ever bought icon_e_smile.gif Thanos has always been one of Marvel's most interesting and complex villains (especially under Jim Starlin's pen) and I really hope this game does him justice.

This is some solid-gold brainstorming in this thread, and I absolutely agree that the 6 tile colors / 6 infinity gems should be connected somehow (even despite the few color discrepancies between the two.) I absolutely love the idea of there being 6 different colors for Thanos - one for each gem. Perhaps with a maximum of three cover-slots per gem as suggested above, with a notable upgrade for the third slot of each. The various combinations of Thanos (Thanii?) out there would terrify me in PVP -- as it should be.
