Team Composition Bonus

Options
So the idea here is pretty simple... give bonuses based on who your 3 man team is based on story ideas. Like if your whole linup is X-Men, you get some kind of bonus.

Or if you are using Wolverine, Captain America and Grey Widow (a la her cover) you get a specific bonus.

Just think this would add to the meta, making characters who would otherwise be weak suddenly stand out because they are the engine that drives the team bus or something like that.

You could also add custom moves that only come if you have character combinations, like a variation on the classic Fastball Special, where Hulk throws Wolverine at the enemy.

There are 3654 possible teams, if they allow both Iron Mans, both Wolverines, both Spidermans, both Storms, both Magnetos, both Hawkeyes, and so on. If someone really wants to do an all Black Widow team, may as well let them.

Let one competition be 3654 different competitions. For each team, the one with the best ranking gets an award. There might be a thousand Rags/Mags/Spidey teams, but there might be no other Yelena, Bagman, Loki teams.

If there was a 250 ISO bonus for winning with an unusual team, then that would vastly open up the game's variety.
  • If they didn't include double characters, there would still be 3413 unique teams of which Invisable Woman, Wolverine X-force, and Bagman is one.

This is an interesting idea, but I think they need a much larger set of characters first, so there isn't (for example) only one X-Men team.
  • We wouldn't just being seeing rags on 80% of teams.
We would be seeing whichever team was just slightly better being used by 80% of population. No thanks
  • Of the characters in game right now

    Wolverine
    Storm
    Magneto
    Juggernaug
Have all been xmen just wish this game recognized that
  • I think this would be a fun idea, but it could cause problems. I haven't looked through the different connections characters have, but while it could introduce more variety in teams, it could also have the opposite effect. It could make a certain team much more powerful than its alternatives, which would put us back into the same boat we're already in. The reason for the danger is that the system wasn't designed that way, so introducing it now would take a lot more balencing, which is something I think they are still working on anyway. Still a cool idea.

D3 keeps stats on the various teams.

They could keep a time counter on each possible team. When a particular team hasn't been used in the past 24 hours or so, the next person that uses it gets a +200% bonus for that particular team for the next 24 hours, or until they break it up. Someone might field Wolverine (X-Force), Loki (Dark Reign), Juggernaut (Classic), and get a 200% bump for a day for that team.

A player must put a team into battle before learning if they get the rare team bonus. A single player can only have one rare team bonus at a time.

Many teams with Spidey, Rags, Mags, C. Storm, Thor, IM40, Wolverine will never get the bonus, because they are used several times a minute, and will never go a full day without getting used.

A rare team bonus would add a lot of variety, and give interesting challenges against rarely seen characters.
