Cannot send alliance text chat with iPad or Galaxy S5

2 different devices and 2 different annoying issues. My iPad lets me type a message but when I click "send" it doesn't do anything. On my Galaxy S5 it won't let me type more than one letter. His do I fix this?

    The swiftkey keyboard also has the bug that only lets you type one letter. I logged this last week. I had to go back to the default google keyboard to make it work.
