Offline Practice mode. .......

In a recent post, viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14545 , the OP mentions the end of MPQ. After reading it, I got a little worried. I hadn't really thought about it, but it's a real possibility. So, I had a few ideas. However, I'm not a computer programmer or game designer so I don't know what can or can't be done. I thought I might run it by you guys/gals here on the forum and maybe get some of your thoughts about what will work and what won't. Or if anyone has something they would like to add.

First, some kind of insurance would be nice. Some of us have put a lot of time and money into this game and would hate to see it suddenly gone. icon_e_surprised.gif I believe that the devs should give, (or even sell) us a little insurance, just in case something like this did happen.

An offline mode that can installed and played anytime. Of course, it would get kind of old after a while, with no new content, or new heros added. But at least I will still have the roster that i've worked so hard on, and still be able to play the game. At the very least, they could make the proloque available offline. For offline PvP, the player would only ever face seed teams, but as long as they were scaled to the players level, it would work great. A lot of players don't even look at their opponents name, so for them, nothing would change.

Now, I do realize that offline play would most likely mean no more daily rewards, or maybe even no rewards at all except iso and the occasional cover. That's something players only get by playing the actual game online. Again, I'm not a computer programmer or game designer so I don't know.

One thing I do know, however, is that if MPQ suddenly disappeared, it would get very ugly around here. If the devs thought the reactions to "True Healing", and TUs was bad, try to take the game away completely and see what happens. icon_mad.gif I'm sure the devs realize that the reason people are so vocal with their objections is because they love the game so much. If you tamper with something that another person loves, then that other person will be upset. But try to take it away and you're just asking for trouble.

So how about it devs? Can we get some kind of insurance here? It does not even have to be that much, just something that will let the players know that as long as they have it installed on their phone/tablet/computer then they will be able to at least play a little.

Maybe even an offline practice mode. Something like the Shield Simulator. Players can use anyone on their roster to face 3 random opponents. There will be no progression rewards or anything. There won't even be a score. Just 3 from my roster against 3 random opponents.

  • MPQ is very lucrative for them, and they have invested a lot.

I don't think it will end so quickly.

They wouldn't have implemented Team Up if that was the case. It must have taken a lot of time to develop Team Up (that's probably why they seemed so proud about it).

The Marvel Universe has never been so popular and they announce new movies all the time.

MPQ has a very strong potential, and I'm sure it will last long.
  • If Marvel were to pull the licensing on MPQ, that would mean pulling the permissions for an offline mode as well.

I am not saying the game IS going to end, I'm just saying it's POSSIBLE. I have no idea what kind of agreement the devs have with Marvel. But I do know that I've played a few other online games where they suddenly got pulled. And in most of those situations, there was an offline mode. Usually a practice mode, or something small. As long as I keep them installed on my tablet, I can still play them. There are no updates, or new content, but at least I still have the game. I have even played a few console games that got pulled from the shelf and recalled. But as long as I don't send the games back in, I can still play them.

Personally, I like the some of the recent changes. TUs for example. They are not perfect, and there are a couple things I'd like to see changed, but overall, I enjoy TUs. Now, I hope that these changes mean that the game is going to be around for a while. I hope that MPQ will last a long long time. I would love nothing more than bring my kid into my alliance in a few years when they're old enough to understand the game.

But the paranoid side of me is always asking, "What if?". It would be nice to have some kind of assurance, just in case.

If MPQ ended, they would probably shut down the forums and the Facebook page. Then there wouldn't be a place for players to express displeasure/outrage/<insert other feelings here>.
  • I think it's a little unrealistic to think they would give a toss about any of the player base and what they had to say, if they were to pull the plug suddenly. They've shown debatable compassion about anything else to date.

Hence my use of the word "if". However, the exact thing you want to protect - those characters you've so lovingly built up - is the precise IP that Marvel would be taking away if anyone happened to the license. So, an offline mode would be less "mini version of the game" and more "now with everyone's favourite characters: Angry Badger Guy, Weather Control Girl, Bad A** Black Dude, and Man-Spider!" icon_razz.gif
  • The only way MPQ would get pulled at its current revenue numbers is if Marvel secretly has a plan to make Marvel Hero Saga and don't want any competitors or that they think this game can easily pay $25 million a year for license rate for some inexplicable reason.

At any rate 'always online' games just don't go back to offline. You have a lot better control when things are always online and I've never seen a company relinquish that control. If you could get everyone who will play MPQ before the game was released threaten to never play the game if there wasn't an offline mode that may have worked, but it's way too late for that now.

Or Disney CEO Bob Iger is a long time player of mpq and he's pissed over the TU addition like nearly everyone else.

Contact State Farm, Allstate, GEICO... I'm sure one of those companies can write you some kind of video game protection policy!
  • I stumbled over Marvel Heroes 2015 last night. Their rather 90's looking character animations has me strangely feeling more confident about MPQ's future.

Marvel is willing to sell their license to anyone who asks, so long as they give Disney enough money. If they don't, Disney generally considers an exclusive license of that genre better for them.

MPQ still makes a lot of money, and is fairly unique.
