EDIT: I changed the subject name as some found it "offensive", instead of recognizing a line from one of the greatest literary works in the world. So I changed it to the current, slightly altered, quote instead, which coincidentally is my favorite line from Moby ****. To anyone offended, I apologize. That is NOT what I meant
I recently saw a thread about motivation for playing MPQ. That got me thinking about why I play so much. What I want out of this game. The main thing is, of course, entertainment. But more than that.
I first started MPQ at the time of the Spiderman nerf. I didn't even have Spidey at the time, so it did not affect me. When I first started, I didn't really understand the mechanics of the game very well. Once I figured it out, I set for myself 3 goals. I am happy to say that number 1 has finally been reached.
My first goal was to aquire every cover of every character in the game. For the past 3 months I have been missing just ... one ... single ... cover. I have been so close, but for Psylocke blue, the white whale of my collection. When a new character was released, I would grind, non stop just to make sure I got all 3 covers. I found this was much easier and faster than buying countless token packs hoping to get what I need.
I spent months trying for Psylocke's blue, but always fell short. Every flippin' time. During the Balance of Power event I thought, "this is it, now she be mine".
Wrong ! ! !
I thought all i had to do was remain in a high placement until the end. Which i did, until the end and just barely missed out. Yet again, that cute little ninja slipped through my fingers.
Then came the recent PvE with not only Fury, but my long sought after, Psylocke blue as an alliance prize. I know I can't take credit for this. If it were not for my team mates, I still would be hunting away for that elusive last cover.
Here I'd like to take a second to once again praise Heros-R-Us for a job well done. Search private alliance Heros-R-Us Jr. , my reserve team, to apply.
(yeah, I know, it's sad, I just had to plug my team at least once)
But now, thanks to my team, I have accomplished goal #1. I have 1 of every cover of every character in the game. My second goal, #2 is to have every character maxed. This one may take me a little while, as my main problem is lack of iso8. Goal #3 was to have a second copy of each character cover maxed but only leveled half way up. This also, may take some time.
Just as a side note, over the past months I have set a 4th goal, yet I will keep that one to myself for now.
Then I started thinking, "am I the only one? ". So I'm wondering, how many of you have set goals in this game, and if so, how many have reached those goals? And what are they? More importantly, what to do after reaching those goals? Retire from the game? I would think finishing number 1 rank in an event would be one, but I already did that one. Only because I got really, really lucky. It was my first PvE event, and I really wanted that X force. So I spent all my Hp on 50% event damage boosts. This was before I knew just how rare Hp was. I won't make that mistake again.
Now, I know people dont care for others that brag or show off. Then others will read this and think, "so? Like I care. You have a lot of heros, big whoop". The fact that I take such pride in my accomplishment could be a sign of gamer addiction. But I don't think so, I can quit any time I want to. Then again, one of my alliance mates says that having a Yelena in my roster is a sure sign of addiction, and having 2 of them means it's too late for me. If so, then so be it. I love this game and don't intend to stop playing any time soon. Although I can quit. If I want to. Anytime, ...... next week, .... maybe. ...
TL; DR, What kind of personal goals have you set for yourself in MPQ? Have you reached those goals? Also, I'm a video game addict, I have a big roster, i have one the Best alliances around, and the subject line was the first of 4 references to Moby ****, (who can find the other 3 in the post).

My original goal was to max out all my 2*s. I figured having a wide 2* roster would help be both maintain a good MMR and conserve health packs. (B-Team is down? Switch to A-Team for final push.) Dumping Iso into my last 2*'s wasn't gonna make much sense. Hawkeye is unreliable. Moonstone is a niche support character. Bagman. (LOL)
My current goal is to max out all my 3*s, but with 7 already maxed out, I'm not sure I have that much motivation to finish.
Maxed: Cap, Mags, Hood, Hulk, Punisher, Thor and Patch.
Leveling: BP, Sentry, Daken, Deadpool. (Dumping ISO till soft cap)0 -
My interest in MPQ dropped significantly around the time of Season 2 - for various reasons, but there's not really any need to repeat the details. I was close to simply abandoning the game altogether, but I knew that She-Hulk was not too far on the horizon and was still hoping that they might add Captain Marvel to the game. (as a side note, I'm somewhat glad I didn't push myself to get covers for those ) So I switched gears on my playstyle to simply play a few rounds each day during my commute. That would at least keep my daily reward ticking over, and contribute 10 ISO to my alliance until they decided if they wanted to replace me or not.
Although removing that pressure to grind and push for top reward brackets made me feel better about the game, I stil wanted to give myself a goal. My plan then, as it is now, is to cap/soft-cap every cover in my collection. This makes it a fairly fluid goal, since I'm still managing to pick up needed covers through tokens, daily rewards and even placing in 3* cover territory for some events. I figure if I ever manage to get to such a point where I cannot spend ISO to level any of my characters any further then I will have "beaten" the game, and I'll feel OK about bowing out altogether.
I hoard HP much more now than before - I used a shield in the last 3 hours of Combined Arms, the first time I'd bought a shield since the start of Season 2. I haven't bought slots in about the same amount of time, so I've sold off a few 1* covers to make room. That might have to change soon, but I'm getting about 2k HP over the course of a Season just through progression rewards and that sort of thing, so I'm not too worried about buying a few slots. I haven't bought any hero covers either - although my Panther and GSBW could both use a respec.0 -
I set goals with PVE and PVP. My overall goal is to have a deep roster so I can play as much as I want regardless of healing.
To get to the big goal, I set mini-goals.
1. Trim the roster of unwanted characters and use that ISO to level up the keepers.
2. Get all 2*s fully maxed.
3. Get most 3*s to a usability level. I consider this to be 125.
4. When there is a featured character in PVP, focus leveling on that character. Otherwise pick a character to focus on.
5. In honor of the daughters I raised, make sure I am an equal opportunity leveler.
6. Throw the occasional level to the 4*s but they don't get focused attention until all the 3*s are fully leveled.
I developed my plan when I realized that I was spending to much time fretting over which character to level. Now I just follow the plan.0 -
My first and only goal has always been to have erverything maxed.. I hit LRs all day with that in mind.. I nearly succeed,as of now, i only have iw and xforce wolvie to iso-max.. Tbh i could max one of them but i deeply think over the interest of depleting my iso stash for some of the worst chars in this game.. The game is getting stale and if s5 has no other incentive than sentry bombing.. It will then be high time to see what other games have to offer..0

When I started the game the main attraction was to collect all the heroes.
Now that I understand the game better I know that some heroes aren't worth keeping so I've gotten rid of a fair few and accepted the fact that I won't "catch 'em all".
The only goal is to have fun and as my understanding of the game changes and devs make changes to the game (balancing, rubberbanding, etc.) that changes my perspective of what I am still enjoying and what I don't.
Currently my main source of enjoyment and therefore my goal is to find new hero combos that are fun to use. So the goal becomes to level the heroes that I want to make new teams with. Falcon/MoStorm/C.Mags is my latest one, so now I've started levelling MoStorm to get her to her soft cap.
Another current goal is to stop being a slave to the game, as a result I enter PvE events much later and I'm getting a lot more enjoyment out of it as a result.0 -
My goal was to find a free(ish) PC game to kill time with at the end of the work day. I did it.
I can also now kill time before dinner. And weekend time. And early mornings for 20 minutes before work. And...0 -

My goal seems to be "Stick levels into whatever character is buffed for that PVP". So far, it means I've mostly got a half-assed roster that is hurting my chances of doing better than "alright". A question on your #3 - I can't recall what the switchover point is from "worse than a two star" to "better than a two star". Is that 125?0 -

That is my problem. I'm like an iso prostitute. I get a little saved up and then everybody gets some. Mainly the one that's featured at that time. And I agree with Mawtful, after I have all heros maxed, and all back ups cover maxed at a level somewhere around 115 or so, then I will feel as though I have "beaten" the game. However I love this game too much to just stop, I need my daily MPQ fix. After that, I will still play, but just as super casual when I want to kind of thing.
As to the "switch over level", .....
I'm told it's around level 125. However, my Big Thor is level 101, yet more powerful than a maxed 2* Thor.So I don't think there is a specific set level. Based on my observation, and only my observation, which may be wrong, I think each character is different, but it seems like between level 100 and 125.0 -
Level 125 was a best guess for me. Until you have a minimum of 9-10 covers and up in the 100s on a 3*, you can't really get a good feel for the character.
One of the pleasures of MPQ is the diversity that lets you individualize the game to what suits you best. I am always skeptical of advice that tells you which character is good or bad. There are characters I don't like. There are characters I really groove with. That doesn't have anything to do with your character choices. At most I can tell you my reasoning.0 -
At first my main goal was just playing casually, having fun with a match 3 puzzler with marvel characters. Then I became addicted. Completely hooked. I then realized I needed a better alliance to help feed my addiction. It took me a while but finally made my way to heros-r-us (another alliance plug and I love it ). Suddenly I had guidance, advice, and knowledge from others to help me achieve my new goal, get out of the hell that is the 2 to 3* transition, and ultimately field multiple 3* teams and establish a well rounded roster that can be used in any situation. Im getting there, now I just need more iso0

With a quote from "Moby ****" how can a whale resist?
My goal from almost the moment I started playing MPQ, last October, was to have every character at max level. All that I have left to max out are X-Force Wolverine and Invisible Woman. X-Force will very likely be maxed in the next day or two just holding my iso to see what the Season V reward is in case I might want to hold some of the iso for that. If IW is all that is left I will probably start putting a couple levels into her every day gradually getting her closer to max.
While it wasn't my initial goal I still want to keep my unbeaten streak of scoring every new cover from the release tournament. I haven't missed one since the original Moonstone release. So I still have something to play for and look forward to.
Goals are good but I have never seen them as "end-game" just targets to shoot for.0 -
My first, seemingly daunting goal, was finally achieved when I took first in The Hulk pve event, when I saved the last of the 3* and 4* characters to my roster. My white whale in the 3*'s was classic magneto, as he was the last one saved. As far as getting a color card for each character, I've yet to do that, so that's another interesting goal I can add. Goals really do help with motivation and interest.
I think my current main goal is to excel at the pve events, since pvp is so frustrating and limited for 2* rosters. I'm pretty good at watching those timers, and at the moment I can generally make time to do fairly optimal clears, aside from a decent sleep level of course. Not that I haven't deprived myself of that a bit here and there to give myself an edge if I could... The biggest factor on this is going to be the new job I start monday morning. I really don't know if I'm going to be able to space out breaks at work the way *I* want them, or if I'll be corralled into something less optimal for pve node clears.
The other things I'm working on are getting a max covered 3* character, what which point I could invest the iso and switch more into the pvp arenas. Lastly, I just approached my friend who made a spot for me in his alliance months ago, and if he's cool about it, perhaps seeing if I could fit into a top 100 alliance of some sort, even if it was just a pve one for the moment. It now seems like a worthwhile goal... I mean, the hp alone is worth the endeavor if you have the time, right? Not to mention all the covers that would be injected into my fledgling roster.
Also, currently I don't see achieving my goals as the point of my gaming here ending. The decisions the developers keep making may see that happen before I make anymore of them. On the other side of the coin, if things can stop getting worse in relation to my ability to play and enjoyment of the game, it will likely just be the point where I create another, more far reaching goal.0 -
My irrational goal is to level-sort the characters into ****, ***, **, *.
IW, Deadpool, and Johnny Storm are currently misplaced in my roster.0
