Recruiting has gotten hard! Is the game in decline?

So, I'm seeing my alliance and several other good alliances looking for recruits right now, and I'm not seeing many people jumping at the chance to join top 50 alliances.

What's going on? Has the user base declined that much? Too much dilution with so many alliances?

S1-S2 we had people contacting us constantly, that slowed down in S3-4, but now it's getting REALLY tough to find good recruits.

  • I blame summer. And Demiurge's new game "improvements".
  • Top alliances have pirated and burned out some hardcore players. this is evident in how many times they had turnovers. It has been the case ever since S1 ended.

Apart from that, regular and casual players are also leaving the game due to its monotony and mediocre improvements. so if you belong to the top 100 alliances, your option for getting a good member is to 1) nurture a promising newb within your ranks 2) pirate from another top alliance 3) hope for some good alliances to fall apart so the good members search for a new alliance.

There are also other great players out there, but they belong to the casual/no pressure group. they can do really good when they choose to, when they want to. but they can't/don't want to keep up with alliances to play all events even if they dont need the rewards.
  • Everyone is joining xmen, lol. Seriously though alot of people are burnt out and also its the summer time, so most people would rather be outside doing something. I also noticed the ones that are competitive are looking to join a top 20 alliance, so if your not top 20 they wont join. Last and final thing is, the game is getting worse. They decided to add TU which are terrible and only benefit the ai, as they can use it multiple times and without having enough titles.

If they dont have a new character for season 5 you will see many more drop out.

Besides the reasons stated above (reduce player pop mainly), the other possible reason is that players are happy with the alliance that they are in. Unless you are in top 10, there's no real benefit joining a top 50 or top 100, since the rewards are similar.

I don't think a new character would help. We have about 1 new char every 2 months. The last one being deadpool, an immensely popular character.

I think what Mpq need is a new game mode. Better end game content.

I think Deadpool or Captain Marvel would have been a better, top tier Season prize instead of using Invisible Woman again. That was kind of a let down. Considering D3 seems to have put 99% of their eggs in the Season format basket, I'm pretty sure that most people expected a better, more popular character (like Nick Fury was for Seasons 1-3).

I agree there really should be better content... hopefully, added NON-COMPETITIVE areas of the game. The Story/Prologue is tired and really a waste for anyone playing for a while. Once Seasons came around, it seems all other focus from D3 was centered on that one facet of the game, and has rode that train ever since.

I personally preferred IW yellow to be the season reward though, since I was able to not care much for my season rankings. Also preferred Capt. Marvel and Deadpool as pvp/pve rewards since you dont need to struggle through tons of useless pvp just to get a few covers of a coveted character. It was D3's response to the players clamouring for too much burn out for season. Ironically, people chose to drive up scores in a season where the rewards aren't much worth. So there are really more messed up factors in this game one way or another.
  • One mechanic that may be at work: I suspect long-term players are burning out faster than newer players are reaching the point they can replace the vets. The serious difficulty a lot of the newer players seem to be having making the 3* transition means that relatively few new players, through no fault of their own, are probably meeting the standards a lot of the alliances are probably wanting in new applicants. A lot of us vets (I'm as guilty of this as anyone) aren't helping because we're still grabbing all the covers in PVP even when we don't need them, because we want the ISO/HP/Season Points.

I agree with all that was said. It's been hard to recruit since S3; many good players don't want the pressure of being in an alliance and prefer to be freelancers for specific events.

Besides, the game is surely declining - it's been a while now. I blame long PvEs with crazy timetables, TUs, and lack of new Prologue content, for an example. And this idea of putting TU requests in the chat screen - the chat doesn't work to begin with, and now it's even more complicated.

Unless some major changes are made to make the game more attractive, soon good alliances will have to merge in order to have a full set of players.
  • I also agree with most said above. I think between S3 and S4 a prolific amount of veterans quit due to fatigue or disillusionment, as well as the most hardcore players consolidating into the corporate megalliances, making the player pool extremely top heavy. Add to that the fact that newly graduating transitioners are arguably more attracted to the thought of joining a corporate megalliance and it's resulting in the remaining alliances not ranked in the top 10 being disregarded by many. This is a sad state of affairs and doesn't bode well for the long-term growth of MPQ.
