Quick Poll: Do you TANK?

The results of this poll should be fairly obvious. The MMR issue pretty much plagues the majority of us forum folks (we're special icon_mrgreen.gif ). It's always fun to hit a wall of 166s for a 2-star player early on in a PVP event.

Oh, and please DO NOT post your tanking strategy here since it'll probably be removed on the next update (e.g., prologue healing, changing your clock to recover health packs, etc.)

Was changing the clock ever beneficial? You could miss events/rewards this way, or am I mistaken?

I don't see a huge benefit from doing it - it makes the first 400-500 points fairly easy by picking on 2* rosters but after that it's like a switch gets flipped and all I see are maxed 3* teams.

Nope. I just roll with my losses as I climb. Waste of my time killing off my roster when I need it for other things.

You used to be able to change the clock on your phone, and the health packs would reset to maximum. Now the game constantly syncs with the server to prevent that exploit (hence, the huge battery drain on your smartphones).

Not entirely true. My MMR got all kinds of screwy towards the middle of this season (I assume it was from tanking it sure seemed like I tanked my MMR) and I actually had trouble pushing past 600 or so since the game would only give me 2* teams and very few of them were worth even 20 points to me and alot of them only <15.

Yeah I had something similar for about a week after Balance of Power. It seems to have normalised itself again for the last couple of weeks.

For webslinger I've killed Daken and Bullseye a few times before I started climbing, but it was more because of being annoyed by them pulling double world ruptures on me in a single match, or if they didn't get a WR TU, then a Supernova. This pve sucks so hard.

Otherwise, I typically flex my coveted ~deep~ roster, matching levels and powers to the opposing team. It lets me go on a good long while and keeps my MMR honest. I don't get hit by 166s until after I cross 600, and it's more them attacking me than me getting matched with them.

Obviously, you are now highlighting "tANK" for dev to look into.

I don't know if it's residual from balance of power or what, but I basically saw 2* teams (with a mix of some 3* and even occasional max teams - probably tankers icon_e_smile.gif) the entirety of season 4, up until the 600-700 cutoff where you start seeing maxed teams everywhere. I haven't tanked since they eliminated the effect of retreating in the old prologue shield simulator so it's not because of that. Anyhow, I haven't seen any ill effects personally, so I don't really see any reason to tank. For full disclosure, I'm on day 188, have 3 166s, many more fully covered characters, and routinely place top 5 in PvP (been scoring 1000+ in season 4).

I used to, but recently, I've found that it's easier to climb with 3* enemies, since 2*s have a bad habit of stalling out with 20 point or less point doldrums

I tanked back when LR tanking made PvP events easier, but since that was changed I haven't seen any value in it.
  • Voted "What's Tanking," because it's none-ya-tiniestkitty-bidness. Ha.

Some enjoy their leisurely stroll to 700. Let's not push that fix, please.

But isn't it only a stroll when there are actually 2* teams that have made it to 700?

Well, that's true. What I was describing was the threshold that is seen after intensive tanking, where you should see weak teams up to that point, then hit the wall where everyone sees you, and max 3* teams are everywhere (skip, skip, skip, dammit, skip, dammit, shouldn't have skipped that last one).

I guess it's not so fairly obvious. I have never tanked since I never had a need. I start early, take my hits for 2 days and then shield in the last day, 3 hours, whenever needed.

I know I am in the vast minority, but I see tanking as a snowball. The top guys tank, then the mid guys see only top guys; so the mid guys tank. Now the little guys see only mid guys, so they have to tank. If tanking was ever truly removed, I really believe the problem would fix itself.

Battery drain has been an issue since the game started.

To a answer this, I used to back when you could in LRs, but then

    1. I realized this game is really freaking mediocre and I only enjoy it while also watching Netflix (still feels like a minorly polished beta/decent alpha, and that will never change)

    2. I figured out how to get 2* teams almost every PvE as soon as I hit ~400 with minimal effort AND winning 95% of my fights.

    ^ This.

My best is a 114 Punisher, yet I continue to be matched with walls of 166s that tank their way down for easy pickings in the climb to ~700pts. I can tank just enough to get rid of those 166s, careful to not drop down too far and start bullying even lower level players for too low a points return value. I can score about ~400pts before those 166s return that way, which makes PvP largely a wasted effort. The most valuable part in it is building up the required 5000 season points for the 10 pack. But with scores being artificially capped to ~400pts per event, reaching those 5000 points means playing each and every event in the season and making them all count.

PvP would be so much better with tanking killed off. I don't give a damn that this would cost high tier players their sheltered and cushioned easy climb against low level teams. Lower tiers of players don't get an easy climb either, so why should they?
  • I personally do not tank, and for some reason, I have been getting a lot of 2* and lew-lever 3* the last event or two even with a developed roster.

No. When something is too tough, I lose. Eventually the AI learns and gives me easier targets.

It goes against my psyche to deliberately lose.
