How are people getting 1000+ in PVP?

How are people managing 1000+ points in PVP? Anytime I start approaching 700-800, I get attacked left and right, often for 25-40 points each. And if I do start getting that high, battles worth more than 15 points becomes increasingly rare.

Not complaining here. I've found building up to 700 a few hours before expiration is good enough for a top 100 placement. I just want to know their secret.

Play during off-peak hours, always try to hit people with more points than you to reduce retaliations, and shield hop, shield hop, shield hop.

    And get a better roster.
If OP is satisfied with T100 he definitely isn't in 3* land yet so there's room for improvement.
  • Sentry+Laken+ap boosts kill the enemy very fast. They do this a few times and then shield hop. Fast points, very few retaliations. They buy hp buy the crate to feed shields.

Damnit Bowgentle, I was trying to be clever. You have to go and point out my oversights. icon_mrgreen.gif

Being satisfied with a 3* cover reward (top 100) doesn't mean you don't have a 3* roster. It just means that you're not willing to put in the effort and shields to get into the top 25 for a second cover. And how much effort that is depends on the bracket a lot more than it does your roster.

I think more than anything is the better roster piece. If you have two of the top-tier offensive characters (Daken, Thor, Sentry, Hood, BP, Patch/Mags) at max level, you should be able to hit 1000 points on a single final shield, with many high-level players able to get to 1100 or 1200 in the same way.

Typically, you can get to the 600-700 mark and just sustain without shielding. Then, in one grand final push with your 5 healthpacks in tow, while double-boosting the whole way, you should be able to hit over 1000 without too much trouble and shield out to the end. Once you pass the 800 or 900 mark, you'll start finding the crazy score opponents (1400+ or whatever), which actually makes those last couple of hundred points extremely quick.

Honestly the trick is to push with a team thats intimidating enough on defense for people to not instantly target you, and is good for sustained pushing. This torch pvp for instance, i pushed to 750 overnight, had one attack on me, and then pushed from 750 to 1100 with maxed out torch/cmags/hood, since no one really wants to risk attacking that team unless i have a ridiculous amount of points. Didnt use a single shield either. If you dont have the luxury of a developed 3* roster, you basically need to shield hop in order to get 1k points, since youre kinda stuck until you get the characters needd to hit 1k.
  • I am in Asia so when I play all the Americans are asleep. I can usually get to high 800's/low 900's without any shielding. From there I slap on a 3-hour shield, let the retaliations subside, keep mashing SKIP until I find juicy targets (worth 30+ points) and shield-hop with Sentry. That's pretty much it.

Not so hard if you have a relatively well-developed 166 roster. More difficult with a transition roster.

Shieldhopping is probably the go-to strategy for consistently hitting 1000+. Speed-kill teams help a lot.

In the last two PVPs, though, I ended at 1000+ without shielding (1109 in the one that just ended) using Sentry + UD/Hood at the end. Here's what I did:

    1. Grind to ~850 many hours (around 12 for Torch) before the end of the PVP.
    2. Put up a solid defensive team (for Torch, I used LT + UDaken)
    3. After getting attacked down to the 700s, start climbing back up using optionally-boosted Sentry + UDaken. I started doing this 1 hour from the end.
    4. Once you hit 900, use Sentry + UD/Hood with +3 R/Y & G/K boosts to climb the rest of the way.

You could achieve similar results with Patch + CMags, but you'll need to shield at the end, because that team comp is a very attractive target.

    tl;dr - Shields and/or Sentry.

I'm sure I can be proven wrong but getting above around 850 without a max 3* team is a lot of work, HP and ISO on boosts. (Ie not worth it)

Getting to 800-850 with max 2* teams is very doable (easier if you have a couple of 100+ 3*s for deterrent), and with only one shield if you time it right = probable top 25 (2x3* covers) plus good HP & ISO income. Anything higher is also not worth it, if you're sitting with a 2* team at 900pts on defense you're a juicy target so time in games likely equals no gain thanks to losses. Plus 900 token progression is a waste of time. Plus good placement in top 5 for extra cover is out of reach.

Key is getting to 600 at any time, then doing a push to 800 in one sitting minimising time that you have a big target on your back. Then Shield and walk away. No need to shield hop, no stress, minimal time.
  • I will add I've been able to park at or even above 700 points for hours at a time (even overnight) without a maxed 3* team without losing that many points. I am very diligent about tanking at the beginning of every event, and I do have most of the 3*s at 140th level, for what it's worth.

Yeah, if you're tanked to 2*s, 700 is pretty safe to park at without getting hit too much, otherwise, I usually go to 800 and fall to the 600s or so overnight (mostly from 40+ hits)

Agree in principal, but getting from 600 to 800 in the final push is usually anything but straight up. Beatable targets worth more than 25 points are hard to find and after 700, the hits start coming (sometimes 2 per game, sometimes once per three games). Don't want to sugarcoat it. To make top25, it works 50% of the time, every time.

    Thanks all.

I'm in a transition from 2* to 3*. I have a handful of 120+ 3* characters, my main combos being Patch/CMags and an oddly effective (but slow) Punisher/Spiderman. I usually build my points with ye olde Mags/Storm, then finishing with a 3* combo for defense. Since I only have time for about 1 hour of play a day, looks like 1000 is way out of reach, even with the game's generous rubber banding.

It's no problem, I'm still having fun and that's what really matters.

Ok maybe I was a little flippant saying it was "very doable!" I agree the push from 700-800 is nervy, but I've had decent luck recently. Queue up a few decent nodes to get from 690ish to 750ish then the last 2-3 games for 50pts to 800 can be dirty 20pters IF you can be quick.

Recently been more like 2/3rds the time it works every time...

I am addicted to adrenaline - and my body obligingly supplies huge quantities of it. For that reason, I am learning to shield and walk away most of the time. I have a diverse roster. I rarely need the prize character (though I do like the extra ISO). I usually play to 900 and stop. Unless it is a cover I don't have (Deadpool), it gets me too hyped up to climb higher.
