Team idea's

OK so I'm just wondering what most of you guy's use for your main team.. and why? Like what powers do you like combining etc. I ask because I'm seriously tired of using Lazy Thor and OBW the third character doesn't seem to make much of a difference (though I'm having fun with Deadpool). I'm getting bored with those two characters and need some suggestions from some of you guy's on which characters work great as a team and how to use there powers together.

All I do is steal with OBW purple with the occasional blue heal than cycle through Thor's powers till I can drop COTS and nuke the enemy team. It's a fairly good/reliable tactic but I want to try other stuff and be successful. I mix it up with other characters but I'm not very good at deciding who goes well with who. And than sometimes I can't figure out who's powers I should be using and who's I should be holding off.. like lets say I pick two of the three characters that have red powers, I generally just use either whoever's is ready to use first.. or whoever's hit's for more damage. The sad part is that I have tried putting together team's that people swear by but I must be using there powers wrong or in the wrong order etc, cause I get my **** handed to me.

One final note.. I have a lot of character's (41 currently) but only a handful are maxed out (mostly 2 star). I'm still interested in hearing your teams and how there powers work well off of each other even if I don't have certain covers for said character or they are not maxed. (ex: I only have 3 covers for Patch, 1 for each color) though a lot of my 3 star characters have 8 or more covers (my 3* Thor is maxed icon_e_biggrin.gif ).. because threads like this will give me ideas in the future when I get more covers and can start utilizing the other characters, plus this thread will be useful for others who may have those characters ready for use.

Currently I have 8 3* at 125 (highest level) with Sentry at 116 and run teams based on who is the featured guy for PvP. No Daken, Psylocke, She-Hulk, Deadpool, or Captain Marvel near 100 yet. I have a party building philosophy that I use and it's seen more than a few defensive wins per PvP since before team ups became a thing.

For example, Torch is the current featured character. I take his health into account, his AP, and his type of abilities (attack, countdown, AP generation, etc) and pair him with you characters who compliment him. Considering his low health, I will run him with a higher health character that tanks 2/3 to 3/3 (if possible) or his colors. Then I'll pick an AP thief, either OBW (haven't used in a bit), Hood, or Daredevil (yes I run Daredevil at times).

I like my teams to focus less on rainbow colors and more on a few strong colors. It may cause a me giving up a color or two in the end but it's harder to deny when you have a balanced set of skills. I also tend to counter pick as well but a lot of people run the same teams so... yeah. With my setups, unless I take a nasty AOE, I only have to heal a single character for the part. So I don't really have a main team, I'm just busy making more options for each character.

Edit: If you want me to go into greater detail or discuss particular characters and how I'd pair them then hit me up with a private message. You gotta keep some decisions close to the chest.

Patch, Daken and cMags are always fun. They're great for climbing in PVP because they don't need a lot of health packs--even Patch and Daken plus the required character do a good job. In PVE against goons they're great because as long as you play you're smart about if the goons won't get off any attacks that take advantage of the strike tiles Patch gives them and cMags can take care of any pesky goon CD tiles that you can't match.

Thor, Daken and Falcon are an effective team. It's probably the same general strategy you use now but each green match leading up to Call the Storm will add strike tiles and each yellow match for Thunder Strike will buff those strike tiles.

Sentry, Daken and Hood are great for shield hopping and high-level play but it may be a bit beyond your grasp right now.

Do you see the pattern? Daken. He's great. Use him. Even the 2* version will be pretty great once he gets a third power and can be leveled to 94.

Punisher and Psylocke can be paired with almost anyone and are lots of fun to play with because they have cheap, versatile powers.

If you're still in 2* land you cStorm and MN Mags can be quite a bit of fun--use MN Mags to fill the board with blue matches and then cStorm to unleash Wind Storm. This team is **** on defense so don't leave them out when you're done climbing.

OBW paired with a strile tile generator--pick your favorite, any will do--is very effective as long as she's tanking a few colors because Espionage will allow her to double dip on those strike tiles.

Ares is a powerhouse but I never got to use him because I didn't have enough covers until I was firmly in 3* territory. But he's a great option if you're looking for an alternative to Thor.

If you haven't already, you should check out Polarity's Guide on Going From 1* to 3* (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3939). He has a lot of team composition suggestions for all stages of the game.
  • I recommend you use the prologue or easy PvE nodes as testing ground and see who works well together with others. Some people enjoy playing one character, some don't. For example, I have alliance mates who play Grey Suit Widow and Hulk a lot, while I don't. I enjoy switching around. Thor, Sentry, Daken, Magneto, Panther, Punisher, Hood, Torch, Deadpool, Psylocke, Patch, Storm, Falcon, just to name the most frequently played ones recently. For easy PvE nodes I unearth the rarely used characters and have fun.

For a 2 Star roster, there isn't much beyond the ol' standbys (OBW+ RGY guy, mags/Cstorm). Here's a few I've futzed around with:

Ares-2* Daken - can be tough if the board is green-deficient, but is murderous otherwise.
Magneto-mHawk - little unorthodox, but its an alternative blue outlet for Magneto if you get bored of Mags/CStorm. This was actually a lot of fun during the hood event (if you have a Hood with decent black covers), Hawk's blue & either's red + intimidation. Lots of health packs on Mags though.

Will really help once Johnny Storm is usable, that will give a new color combo some play.

I've got a few semi-viable 3* guys, so I've been running combos like Thor-Panther, Patch-OBW, and Sentry-cannonfodder, but never more than a match or two. Really just to break up the monotony.

PvE and Simulator, with actually 3 character builds, are way more fun IMO. PvP is just a necessary evil.
  • Are you looking for offensive teams, defensive teams, or both?
Daken(s) works well on both because it's impossible to prevent his passive from going off.

Wolverine + Daken cover all colours but blue, with both healing regularly, and red being the damage colour -> However, it makes for a slower round.

NorthernPolarity's Guide is always a good starting point. Plus, the Character Ranking threads have some good suggestions as well.
  • For a 2* player, try daken+torch+obw in pve. Obw steals and heals and keeps those countdowns from going off. daken generates strike tiles pretty fast since you'll be making green matches for torch (wolvie is okay too, but he uses up the green you want torch to use). Torch's green and black are great with strike tiles. The only problem here is low health. Swap torch for Thor or ares when he gets low. In pvp you're pretty much stuck with Thor/ares+obw, because any 2* team without Thor/ares is weak on defense.

Right now my go to team is Black Panther, Punisher and CMags. Tons of strike tiles coupled with REALLY cheap powers means you tear through pretty much everything really quickly. Occasionally swap out BP for OBW, but those three are pretty deadly. As someone else mentioned, CStorm and MN Mags are probably the best 2 star pairing, and if you already have Lazy Thor, you've got a very strong team to move up ranks with. In terms of moving forward with 3 * characters, Patch, CMags (at least until he's nerfed) and Punisher are probably the best characters to build a team around as they have cheap powers that gel really well with almost anyone.

I've started tampering with Deadpool, Black Panther, Patch. The advantages are...

    1. Active power rainbow that almost never intersects (just red and both are good)
    2. 2 strike tile generators and 2 devastating AoEs.
    3. Strike tiles plus Deadpool's red is seriously underrated.
    4. Unless an AoE is involved, the opponent almost has to take out DP, then Patch which leads to a panther slap.
    5. The only color that you are sad to pick up is blue... Kinda.

One thing to point out about the OBW/Ares team is that Sunder does True Healing (TM), it's possible for Ares to come out more healthy in a match than when he came in. This is scary/awesome given how hard he hits in the first place. Try to get him to tank as much stuff as possible (though I think getting purple for OBW is a priority since that just shuts the other team down) then heal before using Sunder. If you're lucky the Sunder self-damage will get mostly absorbed by the fake healing, and the True Healing (TM)/damage will do the rest.

Oh yeah, and Onslaught/Agg Recon is pretty trolley too. I love it.

Unfortunately, the only way for Ares to exit with more health than he started is if he's low enough to gain enough temp health to offset the cost of Sunder. Not sure how well of a strategy that would be in an actual match but it could work in PvE. Just another thing they will probably add to the chopping block.
  • I love my team of CMags and two other characters, I can kill everything almost instantly after I get 5 blue

curious as to what y'all think of this team: Hulk, Patch, and Loki.

Loki seem useless but Trickery does negate the bad effects of Patch's green. (takes away the enemy strike tiles)

So basically, use Hulk to gain enough black to use Trickery and by the time you have earned enough black AP you should have enough for at least one Berserker Rage, (possibly more than one), use BR till yer out of green or no empty green tiles exist, use Trickery to change the enemy strike tiles in to protect tiles for your team...seems like a good idea...will it work?

I'm currently using Patch/Hulk quite a bit, haven't leveled Loki up yet (only have 6 covers for him, 4/2), wondering if I should start to level Loki up

Depending on how leveled your hulk is, he'll be a may shield without triggering Anger unless hit by a skill. He will then take a bunch of 1s after Trickery. Do you have another decent black matcher that could replace Hulk?

Good point, using my currently unleveled Loki with Hulk (142) and Patch (140), getting enough black is the hardest part. On the other hand...it takes a fairly hard hit to trigger anger so I usually get a few turns to grab black before watching all the black tiles turn into anger tiles.

Not triggering after using Trickery isn't much of a problem, with that many strike tiles on the board I'm slicing through most characters with one or two 3 tile matches, unless the strike tiles get matched and removed...don't need to use any additional attacks to win most matches. (attacking Hulk with this strategy is probably suicidal).

Also, by the time I do have enough black for Trickery I usually have at least 18 green and can convert all of the green/purple tiles using Berserker Rage. seems to be working...but not sure if leveling Loki will be worth it. (currently level 43). Will a maxed Loki tank black tiles? (that would be a bad thing for this strategy)

is there a better third character to use with patch and hulk...i'm digging that combo right now, it has really cut down on the number people attacking me. (still get attacked, but not as often)

:/ I can't think of one. The only time I typically run Patch/Hulk is to just anger the other team to death. Although he would cover green for 2* Thor if you wanted to throw him in there. Patch should cover Red.
