Can something be done about the spam?

The forum is still giving advertising space to banned spammers.
Spammers are being banned without removing the spam that they've posted.
Over a thousand spam accounts have been created for spamming the board.

I could probably help with that.

As a start ... memberlist.php?sk=d&sd=a&start=4625 to memberlist.php?sk=d&sd=a&start=5175 is mostly spam accounts. It's pretty easy to do a mass ban, as described in the zero posts thread.

I do admit to having a fondness for the "Space Hobo Photo Credit" spam title from a few days ago.
  • Seems like the spammers have altered their scripts and start creating posts in the "open" forums first and then moving on once they hit the post threshold. Time to look for a new band-aid.

As it is, I'm on the verge of just asking to have my mod status removed. I get about 20 minutes a day of time to actually read the forums, and 15 of that is taken up banning, deleting, and approving various posts. Not sure it's really worth it.

Thank you for you efforts in deleting spam posts. I can only imagine that it feels like a thankless job, but I really appriciate it. You and all the forum knows how annoying the spam is and how it creates a less than steller forum experience. Please continue the work that you put in so we can all enjoy the forum.

    Thank you

Ditto. Been there, done that. It's tedious and thankless, and in the event of games-related boards, you tend to get lumped in with the "bad guy devs" a lot. Thank you for taking time out of your day to increase the daily enjoyability of all the forums users without any kind of compensation what-so-ever.

I would be willing to offer assistance (even in the event all I could do it move Spam off to an invisible forum), but I know I haven't been here nearly long enough for any kind of status.

    [Edit]

With the proper metrics, I could potentially assist in coming up with a reasonable solution, also, if you'd like to drop me a PM. icon_e_wink.gif

We appreciate what you can do, especially since you seem to be the only active Mod left. But we simply need a few more mods, even if it's in some sort of limited role where all they can do is remove spam and remove users.
  • Can't blame you, Riggy.

Honestly, after the way they treated Nonce, they kind of deserve this.

Someone care to extrapolate on this? Preferably via PM as to not cause a ruckus.
