Please let me play this game.

Devs, I am begging you. Pleading.

Let me play this stupid game.

I mean, I can log in and even play the occasional match. I enjoy PVE content, and I get a pretty decent amount of it.

But for the love of god, fix MMR so I can contribute to PVP again.

I don't know what seed teams look like anymore. My roster is not "OP" or even "powerful". I have a lvl 152 HT and a 125 LDaken and that's literally it, the rest are 2* characters and 3* missing competitive covers. Yet I'm still getting paired up to 166/166/249 EVERY ROUND. Tanking doesn't help, even if I suicide my entire roster twice on each new PVP event. My MMR is so high, my first opponents are occasionally at 500+ points already, yet only offer me around 20 if I beat them, which is nigh impossible without the right cascades in my favor.

I want to enjoy this game, I really do. But it's impossible when I can't enjoy half of it because you've prioritized new features that make the game actually harder to play. I haven't played against a 2* team in over a month, even at 0 points.

Please fix your game. Please prioritize things that need fixing. I don't care if we don't get a new character til Christmas. I'd rather play a mostly-fixed game and gather covers I can use instead of being forcefed new characters with a smattering of covers that I can't use competitively.

No, this is not how points and MMR work.

While I sympathize with your plight, this is patently wrong. If you are starting out (ie sub 100) and get a 500 pt opp, it will be worth WAY more than 20. You get 25 points if someone is even with you point-wise.

Edit: lol. HM beat me to it with the same quote.

Well then I'm going to need someone to explain it to me and how to fix it, because it's happened multiple times now. They're not always worth ~20 points but this has happened.
  • The rating of your opponent is not always accurate due to presumably server issues. I've had times where I see a guy pop up with a certain rating, skipped it, and he comes back again with a different rating, so clearly at least one of those two ratings had to have been wrong.
  • I think we're focusing on one sentence in a post full of problems. MMR and sharding are at a seemingly all-time high.

How many points a victory is worth is dependent upon the opponent's total score relative to yours. MMR has nothing to do with it. I don't know exact thresholds off the top of my head, but defeating someone whose score is 300+ points above yours will always get you 45+ points.

Your MMR simply determines which players can see you in their nodes (and vice versa) when you're below 700-800 points. It sounds like you know what you're doing with regard to tanking, but your natural MMR may be so high (TOO DAMN HIGH!!!) that you're simply not tanking enough.

With regard to sharding, I agree that it's a serious problem. In the PVP that just ended, My 1239 points were only good for 9th, which is pretty ridiculous.
  • I'm not sure if you're willing to do this (because of season rewards or whatever), but I've found that completely skipping a PvP altogether drops my MMR for the next event or two. If things are unplayable for you, it might be worth a try.
  • The ELO system works such that if the rating was actually accurate then two correctly ranked players will always have a net change of 0 points if they played an infinite number of games against each other. That is, suppose two players are equally strong and both rated 1000, then you'd expect all the games go to 50/50 which is why you get +25 for winning against someone with the same rating and -25 for losing against someone with the same rating (when your score is high enough and no longer takes reduced losses).

Someone who is 400 points higher than you is expected to win 90% of all their games, and you get +45 for beating him, since you'd expected to win once (+45) and lose 9 times (-9*5) for a net change of 0. And if you say there's no way that can work, that's also why PvP doesn't really work. In MPQ it is entirely possible for A to have 99% chance of beating B while B also has 99% chance of beating A and the ELO system doesn't really handle cases where the chance of A beating B + chance of B beating A is significantly greater than 100%.
  • You can also think about using season sim. to do your tanking. I do that for the first 3 weeks and then push the last one for alliance point.
This way you don't loose time doing it in PVP.

    Just something to think about.

I am with you 100%. I stopped playing for 2 months and recently came back, but now I'm ready to stop again. I'm sick of fighting maxed out Lazy Dakens, Lazy Thors, Sentrys, etc... the moment I join an event. I play a match or two; end up with severely injured characters and .... well, I'm done.

They nerf characters and then expect you win like you previously did? God forbid they adjust MMRs or do something about it. Worst of all, D3 DOESN'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THIS MMR ISSUE. Instead we get stealth nerfs, cr@ppy new "features", lazy characters and the same ol boring content.

I do find it amusing tho that if you want to play the game... You have to stop playing the game.
  • Are you starting every pvp with those two half-powered 3 stars? Because of course you're going to keep ending up in brackets of mostly 3 star teams, which will inevitably be made up of mostly maxed 3 stars that you can't beat with 2 underpowered 3 stars and a bunch of 2 stars. Once you start bringing 100+ characters into battle, you're naturally going to keep getting lumped in with the 100+s. You'd probably be better off going back to using only 2 star teams until you have more 3 star power to survive in 3 star world.
