Six Color Teams

When choosing your characters, how many colors do you make sure you've got powers for? I'm wondering if it's common for people to cover all six colors, or if not, how many. I began to wonder this recently, as, because of the covers I've won, Black Panther and Steve Rodgers are my two most powerful 3*s. In looking for someone to fill the void of those two not having a green or purple power it seems GS Black Widow is my only option if I want to run all six colors. Yet when I've play tested doing so, I've also noticed that six powers may be overkill, as just focusing on a few strong powers ends matches just as quick. Of course GSBW's high costs don't help. It's too bad more characters don't have green and purple.

I typically run 5 color teams but I emphasize synergy more so than rainbow setups. I try to pick characters I know work well against others (locked's thread on hard and soft colors follows my own philosophy close enough). I have a pretty even spread of characters so I match them up with who's featured during PvP than trying to exploit two person combos like Daken+Sentry and Patchneto. It may not be the most efficient but it keeps the game fun for me and prevents burnout.

Looking at your example, I personally wouldn't run GSBW, Panther, and Steve. The costs are high across all characters, you lack early game options, and the board can be very unforgiving if you can't reach that 10-12 AP to activate your offensive skills. I'd say, throw some 2*s into the mix instead of going complete 3* until you get more characters.

Why not run mixed teams, indeed?
BP + oBW + A.Wolvie: green and yellow strike tiles, red nuke, black AoE nuke supported by purple steal, CD delay, and you don't care whose blue gets used on defense, although oBW's is more preferable. oBW will only get Espionage on purple but it's alright, she shouldn't be out very often but you must collect all purple and get the most out of available Espionage. Better not run any other yellow/black users so as not to **** BP's yellow and black on defense.
Cap + oBW + Hood: they lack green, are PvE-centric, live off Star-Spangled Avenger and Intimidation. Can dispatch most teams safely if not super-fast.
Cap + IM 40 + maybe cStorm or again, Hood: PvE use.
Also PvE-centric: BP + Doom + any RGY or RGBk. Especially when your oBW is not feeling well. Use Doom's blue to charge BP's black, and use RGY/RGBk to add strike tiles/red damage. Alternatively, add Hood instead of Doom to accelerate black acquisition. Using Hood or RGBk like Pun/HT on def in Versus is not advisable as their blacks would be used over BP's.

For 2* RGY char + OBW + Torch covers everything, I think that's the only group. There's no black/yellow user to cover behind Mags/CStorm.

For 3*, it's pretty tough to get a usable purple skill. With BP/Rogers, your best bet is to focus on the green. Thor and Sentry would both give adequate coverage.

Thor/BP/Mags has a good power on each color

You can also do Thor/BP/Steve for a fantastic 5 color team

Or you could just refer to the color chart.

Color breakdown for powers. [Brackets] have strong tiles in this set of colors. Characters with the same numbers cover all colors.

  • If we're leaving out the defensive aspect of the game there's nothing wrong with picking an essentially a 1 color team like Falcon + Daken + Spiderman like Bugpop suggested in one thread. Of course, this team won't do so well defensively because they only have to keep you off yellow to keep your team under control.
