Both are awful options but which is better?

  • There's got to be a better answer.
  • Why not just use traditional tried-and-true scoring mechanics from the good 'ol arcade days?
  • Answer: rubber grinding (sex joke...).

    Wouldn't that promote grinding

All i can think of is a ladder system with escalating enemy difficulty but that will just annoy newer players.
  • there is none. no matter what, its one or the other,or else u take out brackets and it becomes grinding for progression rewards.

20 iso rewards are a nightmare for grinding, but if u make it 140 or 200ish, u'll have very leveled cahracters very quickly. its very very fickle balance.

personally rubberbanding is probably the best but cap the points so that one person can't wait til the end and go HAHAHAHAHAHAH RANK 1 U PUNKS.

that way at least u can get to the max rubberband and drain ur point pool.

mind you, this becomes grinding again then, but less of a grind.

    Answer: rubber grinding (sex joke...).
So like the 2 hour refreshes on rubber banded stacks?
  • I had a suggestion a few days back where you would have something like the hunt with different submissions of varying difficulty. Thing is they would reset randomly every like 2-10 hours (or it could be a set time like every 6-8 hours. You got 10 chances at each mission win or lose. Each missions points are stabilized and vary with difficulty.
  • Rubberbanding all the way, I have better things* to do with my life than grinding in this game...

But more seriously, am I misremembering, but did the heroic mode have scaling, where you could replay missions with higher level enemies after beating it each time?

No. At least not the mindless kind.
  • I prefer grinding because it's more transparent, and rubberbanding because it's less of a pissing contest.

If they can't figure out a way to get the best of both worlds, I choose rubberbanding because it's win-win for everyone, whereas grinding is lose-lose.

This is a bad time to have the poll though. People WILL choose "grinding" without thinking it through and out of spite. And that is just sad.

It's not at bad. Just before I started writing the post there was tie at 5.

    EDIT
Rubber just got another vote icon_razz.gif

Yup, people who lost were likely to lose anyway. Only difference is that the feeling of being top 3 early on gave them the thought that they might actually win.

I think you have a good point of the ups and downs of both. A relentless mindless 3+ day grind is just too much. But the rubber banding screws those that do play a lot. I'm a stay at home dad / full time college student so 90% of my time is home with my kids. I like grinding events because I have too much free time and it's fills in the holes in my day. However you are correct, I tend to obsess and lose sleep over grinding events.

The answer is somewhere in the middle, but I really do think MPQ is trying to find it.

My conclusion, I will write my complaints and suggestions, I will however not get upset/emotional, and I will keep an optimistic view for the future of this game. On the other hand my 3k hero points are sitting right for 100 point opens and "can't pass up" deals. The doom packs weren't that appealing for same reason as heroics, all the 2* available I have full covers. Hopefully some really cool packs will be available in near future.
  • Rubberbanding, by a landslide. I have a job and a family, both of which I already neglect for this game. Although I decided to take pve events as relaxation. I play for the ISO and progression rewards then stop. No point killing myself for 12 days for a cover ill get soon enough anyway (IW and IM40 perfect examples of that)

I would go with the ladder system and make brackets based on ratings and not just when you join the event. They could do something as simple as take the average of your top 3 characters usable in the event and break up brackets into sets of 20 levels.

Otherwise, I would suggest a king of the hill rubber banding approach where you are awarded for keeping a high position throughout the event but don't have to grind to reach/stay on top.

There were like 5 events that went down though. How did you find time to grind all of those and The Hunt?

There's an argument floating around that rubberbanding promotes not playing the game. I really wonder how much time is ideal. I don't grind and already spend more than a few hours a day playing. That's more than enough.

Want to grind more than the 5+ events we had? Go to Shield training and win those progression rewards.
  • People are frustrated with today's event, but rubber banding is thousands times better than grinding. It reward people's skills over the amount of time they waste.

Well most of the other events were also trying to get you not to play, because they had the IW boobie prize at the top
