Pay Wall?
I keep my characters at level 60 and I have noticed for a while now that in the last 12 hours of a PvP tournaments when I get over 400 points all the nodes switch to opponents that are level 94+. No matter how many times I try to skip all I get is high level teams. But as soon as I lose enough points (usually around 100) then the matches switch back to teams that are around my level. Because of this I cannot place any better then top 200.
I also play a separate game on another device with my character at level 94 and notice something similar. When I get over 800 points in PvP tournaments then the nodes all switch to max 3* teams until I lose about 100-200 points. This isn't so much of an issue because I can still usually place in the top 20 when I feel like trying.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Have the developers put in a pay wall so that lower level players cannot place high in tournaments?

It means keeping your characters at lvl 60 is stupid and you should probably start maxing them.0

Actually it makes PvE tournaments a lot easier, a lot less rubberbanding. Even with minimal effort I can place in the top 50 or top 100. With a little more effort I can be top 10. I don't care about being #1, I play games for fun but for other people that are really trying and play the game seriously then such an undisclosed block to ranking is really unfair.0 -

And what about PvP? PvP only runs twice-thrice as often as PvE and offers more prizes as a result. Not leveling your characters is your choice, but it is an extremely suboptimal one.
Edit: oh, and it may simply be that 400+ is the current point cap for 1* and underleveled 2* teams; 800 for maxed 2*s. Especially during end times.0 -
The reason you are hitting a wall of big teams is because when you get to those points in PVP there are not as. Many people in your MMR so you get paired with people close in points. So when you hit 700-800 points you are getting the 3* teams that are not shielded. You should level up your level 60 team. PVE is based on community and personal scaling so having a level 60 or 94 won't make a difference, you will still have an easy, normal, hard and deadly mode personalized just for you. The Dev's are nice like that in PVE.0

My other half plays the game is this exact same style. And although this does confound and at times upset members of my alliance, there is a method to the madness. I am rather envious of her ending Congo and Venezuela node levels compared to what I had to deal with at the end of the event. There is a bit of thrill to be found to a degree through mowing over very low level enemies with low leveled, but highly covered 3*** characters. In the BP event that just ended, she walked away with 2 Sentry covers with only scoring 300 points. All 3 covers might have been obtained with a 400ish point score.
That said, without getting into the technicals of the issue, to Gi-Lo, yes there is a "wall" at 400 PvP points. Beyond that point, a player is expected to fight maxed out 2**s to advance further. Also, the situation creates a trap of sorts where cleaing 2x 94s consistently will signal to the game that this needs to be your new base level of difficulty for the game and lock you out of the 1* game unless you start tanking. In the end, playing in the style that you are choosing will hard limit you to whatever prizes that can be obtained in those 400 PvP points each event.0 -
Yeah, I've always thought it was a bad idea to try to manipulate rosters to try to get easier opponents. Tanking too. It's like purposefully not working out so you can play easier competition in the minor leagues instead of trying to compete in the majors. But hey, I know there's people who are perfectly content to dominate their neighborhood softball game.0

I would say that rather than a nefarious conspiracy theory, the simpler answer would be that your MMR rises as you win. Reaching 400 or 800 or however many points entails winning a lot of battles. Maybe you just jumped an MMR bracket. At that point, losses also count more against your PvP score, and so you can't lose enough to drop your MMR bracket, while still advancing up your PVP bracket at the same time.
That said, maybe I'm not seeing things, but why not raise a couple guys to 94, to deal with those tough PVP opponents, and leave the rest at lvl60 to serve as your PVE roster? There's no mechanic forcing you to use your lvl94 characters in PVE if you really want to use your lvl60 guys to control scaling.0 -
I'm just wondering why you think level 60s should be able to come in first in pvps. Why should someone who just started 2 weeks ago or someone purposely crippling themselves get an advantage over everyone else that's been busting their **** for long periods of time? and how would that be more fair to everyone if levels meant nothing and everything was just determined entirely by who can last the longest, which would inevitably be whoever can pay the most?0

The theory that I just moved myself into tougher opponents because those are the teams at that point total just doesn't add up though. I will be fighting teams that are around my level for 20-25 points each then all the matches switch to high level teams for 35-45 points each. This means that their points totals are well over mine.
Like I said before I don't care about rewards anymore, I used to play this game competitively (on my other account I have every character except Nick Fury, most that are maxed or almost maxed) but this one I just play to pass the time when nothing else is going on. I just think that rewards should be based on effort without invisible barriers. If that is the way the publishers want to run their game that is fine it should just be put out there for new players.0 -
No, it adds up perfectly, because level 60 guys are never going to be the ones with the highest points...because they're level 60 guys.
Why should the game be made easier for lower level players (I mean besides all the recent changes that have made it easier than ever for newer players...) and harder for higher level players who have put all that extra time and effort in? Things already get harder for everyone as they get more powerful as it is and they still have to work their **** off to get those big prizes too. Why should you get the same big prizes for putting in less time and effort? What would be the point of anything if you could just jump in as a 1 star team and take home first prize?0 -

Arguably, that may turn out to all be attributed to the upcoming big changes. We'll have to wait and see on that. My alliance and I have made out just fine so far without dropping money in though. Things have gotten tougher, but not unmanageable, but then we never expected to be coming in first place alliance to begin with.0
