Why would you be thrilled? They spent almost a full year with the Dark Reign storyline and did nothing with it. The main antagonist of the plot wasn't even released as a character.

Dark Reign bores me, to be honest. I'd rather play Infinity Gauntlet or Kree/Skrull War or Days of Future Past or Dark Phoenix or Secret Wars or some other storyline that I actually care about. Opening up the storyline means we might not have every PVE be a 50/50 mix between Dark Avengers and Goons. I'd rather play in the other 99% of the Marvel Universe that isn't Dark Reign.

I think Dark Reign could've made for some great gameplay, I think they kinda botched it though.
They spread it out too thin and ended up with a whole bunch of filler.

That's essentially my take on it as well. It seemed so full of filler just for the sake of making sure they have enough Dark Reign stuff to talk about for however many years they had planned on taking it. If the change to eliminate Dark Reign means they can do these one-off "Deadpool vs. Marvel Puzzle Quest" kind of things with other major storylines in condensed fashion, then I'm hopeful for the next few PvEs. You can already see how much variety the Deadpool event can have...since he has to kill everybody!

Starting with Season 5 we'll get season long storylines for the PVE events that cover the classic arcs from the past as well as the major recent ones.
