3 star advice

edited July 2014 in MPQ Tips and Guides
My plan with 3 star characters is to divide into 2 groups, strong and not strong. From there, I will level up the not strong to 69 or 70, so they buffed in PvP to 104 or 105 (i.e. 2 star equivalent). The strong I plan to take the to the 104 or 105 level, and then make a decision on which ones to take to 166 (or more precisely, the order to take them)

This is my current divide, any places where I have it wrong, please let me know. Appreciate the advice.

Strong

Hulk lvl 89/89 (3/2/2)
Torch lvl 78/89 (3/2/2)
Magneto lvl 76/76 (4/0/0)
Patch lvl 76/76 (0/2/3)
LCap lvl 76/76 (2/2/2)
Panther lvl 68/68 (1/1/3)
LDaken lvl 55/55 (1/2/1)
Hood lvl 53/53 (1/2/0)
Sentry lvl 53/53 (1/2/0)
Punisher lvl 40/40 (1/0/0)
LThor lvl 0

Unsure

Falcon lvl 63/63 (0/2/2)
Storm lvl 53/53 (2/1/0)
Psylocke lvl 45/45 (1/1/1)
SHulk lvl 40/40 (0/0/1)
Cap Marvel lvl 0

Not Strong

Loki lvl 69/76 (4/0)
IM40 lvl 63/63 (0/2/2)
Rags lvl 63/63 (3/0)
Spidey lvl 55/55 (1/1/2)
Widow lvl 53/53 (2/1/0)
Daredevil lvl 53/63 (2/0/2)
Doom lvl 43/43 (1/1)

I don' think dividing by strength is the best idea. The 3 strongest characters don't necessarily make the best team, if their skills are redundant. Better to pick 3 that work well together, and focus on those.
  • You need more covers for all of those characters before you start pumping more ISO into them.

I disagree with having GSBW and Dr. Doom in the "not strong" category. Doom can pack a punch with his attack tiles, and GSBW is super underrated.

DIsagree with that. I find the Iso required to level a character up to 70 is minimal compared to what is earned, but the benefits are significant.

For example, first PvP was Psylocke, she buffed to lvl68. I maxed at 625, finished at 579 in 103rd place for no covers. Attacks were constant from 500 and up.
Second PvP was LCap, he buffed to lvl114. I maxed at 773, finished at 751 in 25th place for 2 covers. Attacks were minimal until I crossed 750

That is the future question for me in a couple of months - who goes to 166? For now, my focus is who goes to 105 to be used in all events and who goes to 70 to be used only in their own PvP? Strong characters that I take to 105 become 2 star equivalents that I can mix and match with the lvl94s (Ares, Thor, Wolverine, oBW, Magneto, Storm, Daken, Lazy Torch) to help earn higher places and more covers. Every usable character is one health pack saved and one more battle played.

Great point on Doom, haven't seen him in PvE in a while and forget how tough he is. GSBW, I don't run into, so I will keep that in mind. Thanks.

The problem is she's too damn squishy, her really good power is expensive (and you need all five covers) and the AI can't use her so she's terrible on defence.

I like her but I know why she's not a top tier option.

I agree with your "Strong" group, but there are also specific synergies you want to aim for, as well as specific builds that make a Strong character "worth it."

    Some examples:

Hulk only truly shines with 5 black, and he's generally not a real deterrent anywhere below L130.
Patch is pretty dangerous if specced to 5/x/x without pairing with a 5/4+/x CMags, since Berserker Rage creates huge strike tiles for both teams.
Hood should only be leveled if he has at least 4 blue, and typically only with 5 blue.
Rogers yellow is weak, so you want to wait for x/4+/4+ before leveling Rogers. He's a PVE beast, but that's only true if his red and blue have the ability to overwrite countdown tiles.

Given free rein, my leveling order for L166 would be the following: UDaken, Sentry, LT, Hood, CMags (post-nerf, he'll probably disappear from this list), Patch, BP... Torch/Rogers/Punisher
