I didn't place in the top 5 good enough

<whine>I had a bummer of an experience with the last IM40 PvP. I played into third place, and shielded. As it approached the end of the event, I got bumped down to sixth. I took a look at the ranks and saw I was actually tied with the person in fifth.

I thought: oh, it's a tie, and the leader board obviously can't show that, so it just went by alphabetical order (our names made sense that it would display their name ahead of mine).

I held and didn't go for another match because it was close to the end of the event and my team isn't a fully leveled 3* team, so I figured I'd be a ripe target for all those max 3* teams I was skipping through trying to find someone to attack.

The event ended and I got the top 10 award. I emailed customer service and I was told that rank in a tie is determined by when the rank was achieved, and since the person in fifth got that score before me, they were fifth and I was sixth.

Top five is pretty hard to get to, and it sucks that an arbitrary determination (that I'm only aware of because I contacted support) decides I'm bumped down to a lower rewards tier.

I can't see why it wouldn't be more customer friendly to award all players tied with a score at the edge of a rewards tier with the better prize. It can't be THAT common of an occurrence. And what's the cost? They give out a tiny more intangible prizes? Kinda stingy.

I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time LDaken gets handed out as a prize... so like a month.</whine>

edit: added self deprecation.

Did you have the same score as 2nd place when you shielded at 3rd?

If you still have the ticket open, you should mention that the tie-breaker rules were not available to you. If not, just open a new one and hope you get a better CSR.
  • The tiebreakers are already shown when you check the board. That is if two guys are tied at 5th whoever has the tie breaker will show up as 5th and whoever does not shows up as the 6th, so whatever you see in the leaderboard is supposed to be accurate. I had an event where I was #5 and whoever was #6 just won a match with 1 minute left and needs to win one more to win which didn't seem possible (took that guy at least 3 minutes to win his last game), so I figure I was safe but I finished outside of top 5, but unless this is a recurring problem I just assume it's bad lag on the leaderboard.

    I don't remember unfortunately. I certainly don't have screenshots.

I did mention that this rule had never been communicated in-game, but I was thanked for my input and told my problem had been resolved.

I wish I could end conversations my credit card that way. icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • In the beginning the newest arrival on the same score got the top positon. Fortunately it was changed a few months ago to the sensible form when you need a better score to overjump, the first comer gets the advantage.

The board lists the positions correctly, you were at #6, shown as #6 and got the prize for #6 too -- the only ground for your complaint is your speculation about overriding what you see.

I'm sorry, but your case is not well founded.

To add some constructivism, when you're in such position you may engage in a battle for the last few minutes and jump ahead. There is a chance to get hit right in that period but it is not that likely if you last fought long ago and don't have outstanding score really. The last-minute goers normally fish the battle earlier when you were yet shielded. So the hit more likely come from a saved-up retaliation from earlier you can estimate those chances.

That applies really to last FEW minutes, if you start with time good for 2 or more battles you may get picked up for last-second hit. OTOH even if you get a hit you're just the same tier where you started so no loss -- certainly you look at the point to consider the fall.
  • Same story happened to me some week ago, really sucks. I was pissed like you and opened a customer ticket but I got the same answer as you.
One PVP later its not feeling so bad anymore and one month is not that long icon_e_wink.gif

Talking about the tiebreaker rules. What happens if you have X+Y points, and someone else has X points. And then you shield hop, but end up actually losing Y points, so both you and the other person have X points. Who wins the tiebreaker? The person who was at the (lower) X points 'first'?

I'm sure there is a single way to evaluate: whenever your score changes your position is recalculated. And each win/loss counts as an individual change. if you get a +1 and a -1 in whatever order you'll end up on the END of the equal scores no matter where you were before.

Well that would really suck then

I think in PVP point ties are rare enough to matter. While in PVE points go in a single direction and this method provides the good results. Formerly you got to the top of the ties that made everyone try to play later and latest.
  • I know that whether or not I was tied with the person above me, if the number 6 was next to my name and I wanted top 5, I sure wouldn't take the chance that they would pass out extra prizes.

It's a tough break, but live and learn for next time.
