PVE Snowballing Effect

Just a thought after playing The Hunt PVE event: Make the required character for the "Essential" nodes rotate through the powered up character list much like it does in the Simulator rounds. Make it so that the newly released character shows up more on these nodes, but don't always have it so that those of us who were screwed by an event ending while I'm in bed at rank 22, and wake up not getting a single Human candle cover not be able to play ANY essential PVE nodes for the next 7-10 day event and thus make it nigh impossible to get top 150. I get you want to reward those who placed well and want people to buy your packs, but when there's not even a guaranteed cover in the packs, it's not worth the risk.

  • I was excited to see the hunt, because in the past there had been a variety of required character nodes. Come to see every one is tinytorch and could only sigh. At least this hunt was not also a new character release...
  • It's better they only require one character. It would be worse if they dictated three required characters and if you didn't have one you were SOL.
Or worse, Yelena, DD, and bagman required in a node against Sentry, L Daken, and Hood.

Lol as opposed to not having the ONE and being SOL for an entire week long PVE event? Solid logic! Gotta remember, not EVERYONE gets the new characters.
  • I think you're missing the point of having a required character, specifically a new character that many people won't have. This is how they encourage people to buy packs that might contain that character. It is how they make money, and extremely unlikely to change anytime soon unless they radically alter their business plan.

I totally understand that, but I have 265 days played and have seen this game change A LOT. Back in the day you could buy cover packs for a specific character. And when you bought a pack you got AT LEAST ONE of the featured character. Now you have a **** chance at getting them. Having the cover packs cover such a vast number of characters and covers just keeps lowering your chances further and further. Then when you add in the fact that other characters in the pack are complete junk (ie Spiderman and IM40) and you already have the featured/all the 2* characters maxed (sans human candle obvi), it makes it very hard to spend any money. It's a vicious cycle. I get they want to and need to make money, but at least allow people to feel rewarded and COMPENSATED for their purchases.

I understand your frustration. The current drop rates for featured characters in those recruitment packs is beyond terrible. It is a ripoff, plain and simple. Don't buy them. Tell other people not to buy them. Pray that the world at large gets just a little bit smarter and stops buying them as well. Only when people stop buying them at the current ripoff rates is there any hope that they will change.

The point remains though that this is how they make money. The entire PvE structure is built around it. It is a vicious cycle, one they hope pushes you to spend money. They don't care if you buy out of frustration or excitement, joy or pain. They just want you to buy early and often. Don't. They're not giving you good value. Take a deep breath and a step back. Life goes on.
  • I totally agree. I had the exact same thing happen. The rubber banding in this game is idiotic. 90% of doing well in an event is just being able to play it when it happens to end. If D3 is going to keep this nonsense up, they should at least randomize the end time of events. I can't even believe that people in Europe play this game at all.

The thing I don't get about the cover packs is that they seriously penalize instant gratification. I took a good hard look at the costs and the way I see it the only packs worth getting are the 1-pack of the "Heroic or Better" tokens. They're a mere 100 hp. I looked at their published percentages, and it is very true that your chance of getting a 3 or 4* are better with the 200hp packs (and even better on the 10 packs,) but only by a few percent (4% or so at most.)

The specialized packs are 200hp - so you can get 2 Heroic or Better for the cost of one (on different days, anyway.) The cost of the 10-pack "Heroic or Better" is 2800, so you can get 28 1-packs for the cost of that. At least, so long as you're willing to just buy one a day...

One of the few things I genuinely dislike in PVE is required characters that aren't provided.

I sold my Torch2 immediately. I have Torch3 and really don't have a use for Torch2. I'm not going to keep it or spend ISO on something I don't want.

OTOH - the PVE are aimed at lower level players that need the rewards. There is still plenty of ISO that can be mined with the playable nodes.

GUYS, metrics state players enjoy the lower chance of getting featured heroes.

Honestly, how many times do I have to tell you? icon_rolleyes.gif

It's....okayish for a new 2* like human charcoal, but I wish they'd stop having the old 2* essential nodes, or if they absolutely had to have them, that they allowed the lazy versions too

Well, they do that so that you won't sell off those characters and instead you spend HP to expand your number of roster slots. They don't want characters to become obsolete because then you wouldn't need them. They want you to be afraid to sell any Hero.
