When should you leave your alliance?

So I have been in my alliance for a few months now. I bounced around a couple before that. It's an alright alliance, we are in the top 100 for season 3. But I can't help but feel it might be time to leave after this season is finished. My biggest reason for thinking this is,

There is no real communication. We chat a lot on alliance chat, but it's just mainly asking what characters are good and stuff like that. But none of the commanders ever seem to talk to each other, and it's been causing problems. There have been a couple events now where we haven't done so well because the commanders that were on didn't want to kick any of the players who weren't pulling their weight (they had low season scores as well) they didn't want that burden. Which really sucks for us players who were pulling out weight. These players eventually got kicked but it took ages because a lot of commanders seemed to want to leave it to a different commander to decide. Also because you only have a certain amount of chat space before your messages are gone even when the other commanders came on they would have no idea about any of this because the messages were already gone. So I eventually made the suggestion we look at one of those group chat apps you can get which is a pretty common practice among games like this where you have teams. I had a few of the other players agreeing with me, but the commanders that were on didn't care and said no one would bother with it. The next time I brought it up it got shot down by the same commander (one who hates making team choices) even though it would have solved the problem we had of not being able to get people online to play as such we finished 104 in a PVP event. We also have a few people on our team who speak French, so they sometimes have their own convos going in alliance chat. This has been going on for ages and it's not a real problem, but today one of the commanders was on and because it wasn't one of the commanders chatting in French, he got angry and said pretty much if they can speak English then they should since no one else on the team speaks their language (even though a few players on our team actually do). So in the end I can't help but feel because of the lack of real team communication going on and the fact the commanders don't want to do anything to improve this, this alliance will never be able to really do well and will always have a high turnover of players.

So I came on here just to get everyones different opinion about when a player should leave their alliance and maybe what I should do in my situation. Would also like to here peoples own stories or reasons for leaving an alliance.

If you feel like you are not being heard by your commander and there is no communication, then I would leave. That's what I'd do any way. An alliance is a team, which means to be successful, they must work together. The people that tend to work best together are people that are friends or at least like one another!, which is where the chat area comes in. And having a seperate place to communicate with other members, like facebook or Line, can be a big help.

My opinion is to leave. But that is just me. When I was in a similar situation I where commanders were making bad decisions, I left and started my own alliance.

    Life is short.

The real question is what do you want from an alliance you are part of. I've come to realize that there is a lot of variety in the character of 20k plus alliances. I wasn't alliance shopping but I feel very fortunate that mine fits me - it is a group of people that are both fun and competitive. We have three great alliance leaders that communicate with each other and to the rest of us. Part of the enjoyment of MPQ for me now is interacting with my alliance.

So if you are frustrated with your alliance and don't believe that will change . . . .there is your answer.
  • If you did not play the game, would you interact with any of these people?

    No?

    Go.

I have gotten really good advice from people commenting. I did enjoy my alliance at first, the previous alliance I was in before this one was pretty bad. What I would like is an alliance that does well but communicates better with their team or at least listens to their advice.

Listening to what everyone has said it seems obvious now that I should leave my alliance at the end of the season. Thanks icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • sounds like u will have bounce around a bit more to find the best alliance for u. u might want to start inquiring to new potential groups now, since s4 will certainly start the second thag s3 ends. start shopping now. get ur fury cover, then make ur move onto hopefully greener pastures.

    good luck

If communication is an issue, I'd highly recommend the Line app to all alliances.

The in game chat is tinykitty.

We have been using it for awhile now, and it's been a great experience, and I think it's made us a much tighter group. We have a lot of fun in chat, I spend nearly as much time there as I do playing the game. You also have the ability to PM anyone in your group, so if you are having as issue with a specific player, you don't have to broadcast it to the entire group.

That's the app I mentioned using, another guy on the team uses it aswell for a different game he plays. Yeah the alliance chat isn't that great. Also that's another reason why I want them to use a group app since we can't PM in alliance chat, even though we have low level players I don't think many people call them on it because we don't want to say in on alliance chat where everyone can see it. But I don't want to keep bringing it up because like I said it's been shot down twice now.

The key is to find an alliance that fits your own personal level of communication and competitiveness (more your actual level of such than your desired level of such). Just in the Top 100, there are alliances that run the gamut. There are alliances that are heavily micromanaged, and those that are little more than loose clusters of self-starters. There are those with one or two commanders, and those with a dozen commanders. There are quiet ones, and those that constantly run multiple persistent group chats.

If your alliance no longer fits your personal style, and you've failed to find a suitable compromise between the alliance's style and your own, then it's time to find a new alliance. If it's a pretty chatty alliance, it could be messy leaving just before the end of a big event or Season, since you're taking your points with you. If it's not too chatty to begin with, though, and if there are a notable number of slackers already, then you might as well leave simply when it suits you. After all, loyalty is earned, not simply granted.

  • If your asking yourself the question then it is probably already time icon_e_smile.gif

Find an alliance that fits your gaming needs. Different alliances have different priorities and play styles. You have hardcore alliances, casual alliances and not to forget the casually hardcore. Some don't focus on PVE and mainly focus on pvp. You have mega corporation like alliances and smaller 20 man alliances.

it's just a game there's nothing personal in switching alliances so find one that makes your gaming life happy.
  • As for whether you should move alliances it sounds like yes. If your alliance is reducing your enjoyment of the game then I would move alliances because games are MEANT to be fun. There are also plenty of alliances that would more fit in with what it seems you're aiming for so find one of those icon_e_smile.gif.

As for WHEN, well that's more of a question. Just before the season ends you may well see people scrabbling for members to try and get their Fury covers (has happened last 2 season endings so may well again) and, if you have a good season score you can probably alliance hop ion that period BUT the only thing you'll know about the alliance is they really want a Fury cover and are willing to swap ppl out to get it.... since your issue is not about placings so much as communication I wouldn't advise it since you're basically playing roulette on whether it's an alliance you'll enjoy.

After the season ends spaces will probably come up due to player burnout. That's likely a better time to look for a spot since you can chat with ppl about their alliances and find one in a less time pressured manner. Also avoids any guilt about leaving your old alliance in the lurch for season scores if you bail just before the end of S3.
  • You can have a look at your overall season score : is it very different from the rest of your Alliance (it should be higher obviously). If you are in the Top 5, and the last 5 have less than a third of your performance, there is a problem.

If you compare your season score to the one of other Alliances ranking better, is it comparable ?

Do you think your current Alliance might not reach Top 100 in the end ? So, it's time for you to leave. You will probably perform better in a more competitive Alliance, and it does make a difference. Swapping from an Alliance to another increased my scoring by 40% this season, so being in the right Alliance can make a real difference for you, even for your overall enjoyment of the game itself.

Many Alliances will look for members (some players will call it quit also), so you should start to look around.
  • Meh could I find a better alliance than the one I patched together myself. Probably. I like the option to be really lazy when I want to be and not feel like I am letting anyone down. Thus I don't mind being one of the top performers of my alliance most of the time. It suits me.

Really? Offense. That couldn't be jealousy now could it?

Only if you come for a visit could you ever learn the meaning of mjf storm.

Now return to your mediocre chat.

    Good day to you
