5th Cover

Is there any character for whom a 5/4/4 (4/4/5, 4/5/4) build is preferable to a 5/5/3 (etc) build? It seems that the gaps between 4 and 5 is larger than any 3-4 jump.

Read through Character Rankings for many examples.

There are a few characters work better with 5/4/4--or at least as well as 5/5/3.

There's no single best build for Daken (Classic), but many would argue that 5/4/4 is the best mix between regen and damage output. Magneto (Classic) also doesn't have a single best build but 5/4/4 is a happy medium between 5/5/3 and 5/3/5. Ares best build is 4/4/5, without argument--4 in both green and red maximizes your damage and you gain very little by going to 5 in either power.
  • It depends on that character and your playstyle.

For example, Ares is good at 4/4/5. Simply because 5 Green only reduces the AP cost down from 6 to 5. 5 Red only makes the double damage threshold at 30% over 25%. Situational and not needed. Ares can also work as a 5/3/5. Sometimes having his Green at 5 will help as it will make the AI more likely to use it. His Red is considered his weakest ability so people are willing to give up some damage for that.

Someone else beat me to it. 4/4/5 is ideal for Ares.

It's by no means preferable, but I found 5/4/4 worked quite well for OBW (by necessity - I could never get the 5th black!) for PVE events at least. It does make you a bit of a target in PVP icon_e_biggrin.gif

I've been debating with myself over trying to get Psylocke to 4/5/4 (currently on 5/4/2) to get the red and black fairly effective and make her blue actually useful.

The only thing that would make Bewilder usable is making it purple icon_twisted.gif 2 or 3 turns, matters less.

There's a 50% higher chance for a CD to be destroyed at 2 turn CD versus 3 turn CD, and yes you can destroy it yourself too via a good cascade or if it's sitting in the path of a match 4/5. Sure you can just not take the match 4/5, but you might be hurting yourself more to not take it given Bewilder is indeed pretty weak. The only characters with significantly better power is Magneto (likely nerfed soon) and Nick Fury (obviously P2W).

Now whether you want to use Psylocke at all compared to say, Punisher, is a valid question, but if you have to use Psylocke for whatever reason, having 5 in Bewilderment is quite relevent.

You probably meant that a 3 turn CD has a 50% higher chance of being destroyed? I have seen my mHawkeye CDs being destroyed plenty of times to know that 2 vs 3 turns matters little. CDs suck, period. At least Captain gets an immedaite effect out of his.
I already mentioned that almost any blue power is better than Psy's: Peacemaker, Chemical Reaction, Widow's Sting, Technopathic Strike, lvl 3 Iron Hammer, Settlement, Anti-Gravity Device, Wind Storm, Electric Arrow (same CD duration when maxed, 2 turns, but mHawkeye's CD has a guaranteed result if it resolves), maybe even All Tied Up (guaranteed 2 turn stun for the same AP...). It's hard to suck more than Bewilder. Oh, sure, it can do something nifty for you. But it often won't.

    Like Gravity Warp.

    Remember that Gravity Warp meme?
