How might this happen?

Today, an alliance member posted screencaps in our LINE chat of some strange scores/rank of another player in PvP.

First pic -Shows the enemy node/team at 661 points. Not a Retaliation, says "Defeat another players team"
Second pic - The name was recognizable so they checked alliance rankings to find them... and alliance scoring has the player at 1700+
Alliance mate started playing at the 24 hr. mark and this was just one of their nodes.

Any ideas how this might come about?

Once a player is in a node the game is too lazy to keep updating their score. So I guess he had them fixed in the node early then the other player kept climbing away...

And the upside to that is you can get a lot more points off them than it looks like you should.

I knew that keeping high scorers for later was a thing, but I figured this player would have been far past 661 points with 24 hours to go (which is when my teammate started). The name may have made me a little more suspicious than usual.

If your alliance mate opened the event earlier to check what were the rewards, that's when the teams are loaded into the nodes. So, even if your alliance mate joined the event with 24 hours left, that only determines the bracket that your alliance mate is placed into and not what is in the nodes which would have loaded the moment he opened the event screen.
