I'm one of the many WP8 (Windows Phone 8) users out here that love your puzzle quest series and wanna see it ported to WP8 devices. We need love to if this platform is going to grow! I'm not a dev, but I do keep up with dev publications and such and know thaat Microsoft has made it very easy to port and translate games over from iOS and Android over. I don't think its any excuse for you guys to not have a WP8 version. It can only mean more money for you!

  • I would imagine that the problem is that only like 2-4% of people have WP8 and the cost of maintaining another baseline for it is not worth the return. It is a catch 22 - until more people have WP8 devices devs are not going to support it with apps as well as iOS and Android. As long as there are not apps, people are not going to buy WP8.

You're overestimating that market penetration by 4-8x the actual amount.

And even if the dev tools provided magically work and transform the code from PC/Android/iOS to WP8 (which they never, ever do) you still have to QA on the platform, which increases cost.

But maybe we're wrong and it'll be out Real Soon Now.

Personally, having developed for previous versions of Windows Mobile, I wouldn't touch the thing with a 10 km pole.
  • Just because I was curious, I pulled the stats on Windows Phone 8. Windows Phone has 4% of the marketplace as of Q3 2013. A breakdown shows that 67% of Windows Phones are running the latest OS. So it's about 2.68% of the smartphone market is walking around with WP8 phones. Although that doesn't really show how much people are using their WP8 phones. For that we go over to web traffic for mobile devices. Windows Phone accounts for .67% of mobile web traffic. Apple is ~55% and Android is ~34% for comparison. Assuming an even distribution of web browsing between WP8 and other versions, which I'm sure it isn't, that means roughly .45% of people using a smartphone for any kind of web browsing are running WP8. I'm going to assume that if you aren't browsing the web with the thing, you probably aren't playing games. As such, .45% seems like an awful small slice of the market to attempt to capture, assuming you could even get 100% of the people browsing the web on a WP8 phone.
