Love the game! Will there be a console ( current and next gen, Vita, 3DS ) version of the game? Also I would there be a chance for a full paid version?

Thanks!

  • I registered an account just to say this! I've been playing MPQ all weekend and I love it, but if you guys could take out the free-to-play features and just release this on XBLA and PSN as a $10 game or something, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
  • I'd happily do the same thing if it was released on the Wii U

I tend to be one of those "never say never" guys but even with that said, I have never heard of a freemium game ever turning into a retail game so I wouldn't hold your breath. Maybe Marvel Puzzle Quest 2 but that would be years from now. icon_e_smile.gif

Angry Birds was released on the Wii U recently for a full $50 (which is one of the reasons it isn't doing well ) There was just an article posted on another website that talked about cross-console play being utilized more and more by applications. The title Pure Chess (free at Apple and Google Play) will be a paid title on the Wii U and players will be able to play each other regardless of which platform they have the game on. So a Wii U player could play against a person on an iPad.

Since MPQ isn't really a synchronous multiplayer player game it may lend itself to that.

Ok well the best selling freemium game of all time aside, my point still stands. Also, while I would agree that cross-platform is surely going to be a popular option for those developers who can handle it, I don't think there will be many if any freemium games who remain freemium on one platform but retail on others. It just doesn't make sense.

I totally see what you are saying. One of the arguments about Angry Birds is, "Why should I play $x.xx for a game on a console that I can get for free on tablet?" Zen Pinball 2 is a free to play application on the Wii U, then you can purchase additional content from the eShop (basically the same structure as we see on Google Play or Apple store with MPQ) I would just love to see the playing table and hear the music on my HDTV. So far I haven't found anything that has tempted me to buy content for a freemium game, but MPQ just may make it happen for me. I wish the Google Play market would take PayPal icon_e_biggrin.gif

Being able to play MPQ on my TV would be awesome, I agree. That's where I played my all the previous Puzzle Quest game so I do miss it. icon_e_smile.gif

Only if they changed the UI to show all the relevant information without having to scroll around icon_e_smile.gif

I'd like to add my vote for a paid version. I've played the previous games on DS and would love to see a 3DS version. I'd pay the same $30 I payed for the other games gladly.
  • Puzzle & Dragons is a freemium type game. In Japan it was popular

There's an example much closer to Marvel Puzzle Quest. The freemium game Puzzle & Dragons was popular enough in Japan that "Puzzle & Dragons Z" is being developed for the 3DS. It is not exactly the same as the mobile version. It is supposed to have a much-expanded single-player quest.

I really enjoyed the single-player experience in the original Puzzle Quest games. I own the first one on PC and the second one on both PC and mobile. I'm digging Marvel Puzzle Quest quite a lot. The tournaments are compelling, but I feel the core gameplay is strong enough that I would buy a retail version if similar to the original Puzzle Quest games.

Only overwhelming player interest would spur D3Publisher to create a retail spin-off of Marvel Puzzle Quest. They've made the bet that free-to-play will be the most profitable. Or maybe they're using it to gauge interest?

If you look at my original response (that you quote) you'll see I said "Maybe Marvel Puzzle Quest 2 but that would be years from now." icon_e_smile.gif For the record, in case I haven't already made this abundantly clear (lol) I, too would pay for a stand alone Marvel Puzzle Quest game, if it was done well.

Looks like it was something they were considering and then stopped, hence the name change. Either that or the app is coming to steam for use on the SteamBox but I'm guessing it would be the same freemium game, not a retail release. icon_e_smile.gif

I was wondering if there has been any thoughts at the development house about an all in one retail version? It's been awhile since anyone posted here so thought I'd ask again.
  • lol @ a $10 full version of this game. Ten dollars will almost get you 1/13 cards required to meet the character cap to be able dump thousands of iso in to finally use them in play.

That was the stub for when we were planning on releasing the game through the (then new) Early Access program. That didn't end up panning out since the game didn't lend well to an Early Access style release, so we just ended up doing a Closed Beta then a full release instead.
