Retirement?

I know there's been an issue with strong players feeling like playing this game has to be all or nothing, and they can't let their alliance down by taking a break.
I feel very fortunate to be in a no-pressure alliance that still competes well in every event; but even without saying that people have to get a certain score, some people can't help but put that pressure on themselves.
I've found myself in a situation where I just don't have enough time to play competitively, but I still try to get points for my alliance whenever I can.
I've actually considered making a type of "retirement community" alliance for burned out players who just want to play every now and then but still want to chat and have some form of group interaction. That way, people won't be worried about dragging down the competitive alliance but don't have to quit completely.0 -
I guess it's subjective, but they had a run there where they released DD, Psylocke, Black Panther then the first lazy characters.0

And it feels like some of the devs priorities are in the wrong order as towards the games development.
They've done some good things but this has always been counterbalanced by usually controversial decisions.
There's been a lot of contradicting statements from them... when they have given us anything... and their perception of human response factors seems somewhat non-existent at the best of times.
They base their response completely off metrics rather than player interaction and seem adverse to people having fun.
They won't implement any feature purely for "the people" to have fun in if they don't think it will have a desired effect on ARPDAU and seem reluctant to change the game in the balance of rewarding players if they think it will harm their income at the expense of game longevity and player satisfaction.
Actions speak louder than words, and I'm afraid that neither their words nor their actions have really inspired that much confidence in me.
Most of my dealings with customer support end in them - instead of helping me or answering my question - saying thanks for your feedback, we'll take it into consideration for the future. What future is that exactly?
Pah.
That's just how I feel about it. My opinions are hereby purely my own and are not indicative, representative or affiliated with anyone else in S.H.I.E.L.D

Twyst, you're the focking daddy, don't let anybody ever tell you otherwise.
This game has been absolutely ruined, how else can you explain the number of people saying au revoir - high profile or not. I commented somewhere, sometime, in the not too distant past that D3P struck me like they were making it up as they go along. MPQ could have been great. Sadly, I doubt it will turn out that way in the fabled annals of history.0 -
I have become much more casual myself since Season 1 ended. Real life got in the way for some events and I lost motivation to grind each node on the pve. My team has been great though and we looked at the rewards and realized that we didn't need to be top 10. We are still usually top 50 but have dropped to top 100 at times. I have thought about retirement but I keep playing as it fills empty time so nicely.0

Missed recks post - the day you quit, will surely be another nail in the coffin. True MPQ legend, now, always, forever.0

Daredevil's bad, no question, but I at least appreciate that they tried a different approach to direct dam. e powers. psylocke is also underwhelming, but not useless. I think she might have seen some use in a post spidey world if every pvp wasn't 2 mains + random. But Panther was pretty popular when he came out. Before lazy Thor blanketed the land BP was the only high HP 3 with a big AOE, using a neglected color no less. The subsequent release of many characters with high hp and especially LT and Sentry had diminished BP.0 -
Don't get me wrong, S.H.I.E.L.D have no problem with players taking a break, the problem is us players feel like we're letting the team down if we under perform, despite the assurances of everyone else.

KRAy!!!!0

Looks like I may have started MPQ addicts anonymous. The home for burnouts.0

i've been playing mpq since launch and i'm still not bored at all.
Maybe because this game is a perfect fit to me (believe me, i always look for new games every week in the app store and i still love mpq the best).
and i always try to find a way to avoid burnout by playing other characters.
I think the key is don't take the game too seriously, don't try to be top 1 in every event, and just adapt to whatever curve ball the dev throw at you.0 -
I think you didn't won the game..0

I am playing way less, as is many in my Alliance. Either by luck, or less people playing the game (I assume the latter but have no figures to prove either way), we still hit top 100 on everything so get decent rewards. Quite a few drifted off after season one, so it will be interesting to see what happens at the end of season two.
I was on this game all the time at one point, and even spent some dollar. Neither is the case now.0 -
I'm not in a top alliance, but in Season 1 I posted top Alliance - like scores and earned top 10.
Since then i've moved to playing in pvp casually (only for covers I want) and posting around 300 points for events i don't care about (for free token). I do the same for the PVE events, currently top 10 in Heroic Dark Avengers.
Since i stopped playing so hardcore as in Season1, i no longer feel burnout and am enjoying the game a whole lot more.0 -

This is kind of similar to the aims we have for XStatIIX(cough which anyone is welcome to join cough ). Somewhere players can socialise and play with no expectation, but can also swap with the main alliance from time to time to give everybody a break. It says something about the game that these are the workarounds people are coming up with to try to avoid burnout.0 -

reckless442 wrote:Well your statements are very reflective of my opinion. I'm thinking of giving up the game at the end of the season. I'm too competitive to settle for just doing okay in events, but I feel like I'm burning HP trying to keep pace, particularly with the season bracket. Feeling like I have to use boosted Sentry to keep battles short between shields just means that I spend even more HP, but if I don't use him, I lose way too many points from being attacked. It just all seems silly when the season prize for first is one extra 10-pack that only has a slim chance of even having a cover I need. I might as well just save the HP and buy the covers. But, unfortunately, I'm not wired that way.
I completely agree reck. I know we've talked about it in chat several times. I'm not wired that way either. There is no way I would put in as much time and effort if I was aiming for a top 50 personal finish, for instance.
For for me, I've been right on the edge of top 10 in Season 3 all season, and considering the top 4 have apparently done whatever it is that they're doing, that D3 seems to be so ok with - I'm 4k behind 3rd and 4th, and over 5k behind 1st and 2nd - and the only person with more points than me in the alliance is you. I'm not saying that should give either one of us a top placement - but to have as many points and to feel like you've accomplished nothing is a colossal letdown. And yes, I know there are more people with even more points - even in my bracket - but they're almost as far back as I am now.
As I've mentioned, the top 4 of my bracket are Gipsy, Electro, MickeyDollar and Flo98. I just feel bad for all the other people in brackets like ours, that it's become basically pointless to even continue for them. Just the fact that Flo in 4th is roughly 2k ahead of RavenHeart in 5th blows my mind. We're talking about the top two already crossing 20k in S3.
Maybe cheating isn't happening - this thread isn't to question that. But, what's the difference between running some hack to get unlimited ISO/HP - or having an unlimited supply of money to dump into the game to get the same thing? Either way - it completely breaks the system - breaks the entire point of a competition - breaks the purpose of why people like us play.
Things like that play a major role in my own dissatisfaction with the game. PvP is no longer any type of f2w game for anyone. Shields have to be employed in order to climb beyond thresholds sooner than you used to need to. Points are harder and harder to come by. Of course, those lovely things about the system... that someone below 500 points can see and target you within seconds of you unshielding to get 49 points - but you can skip dozens and dozens of times and only see 3pt matches.
The system is broken on so many levels, and that is what makes it hard to continue to have any faith it will actually get better. Not with them constantly changing more things for the worse, new stealth patches seemingly every week, more and more rehashed events and PvP's, and Season brackets that have left you behind, no matter how hard you push.0 -
KLoganR wrote:I was part of an alliance that was very easy going with great members who cared for one another when it came to real life issues. When the competition started getting tougher we implemented a 500 PvP minimum that is easily attainable. Still, we stopped getting t100 rewards about every other event. I decided to take leave due to the stress the game was putting on me (it should not be stressful at all, and you should not be dreaming about the game when you sleep). Currently I still attain the 500 point minimum and do fairly well in the PvE events, but I am so much more relived that if I don't want to grind or make sure I play again in X amount of time I don't have to. Will I rejoin the alliance... maybe (if they would have me again), but not today, and maybe not tomorrow or the day after that. I can see myself taking my 4 maxed 3* and various other warriors and finding a nice little spot on the beach for quite some time.

Once a Pax Romantic, always a yadda, yadda, yadda. We've got a couple members that seem like they are losing interest pretty quickly. If you want to come back, we'd take you in a minute.0 -
I basically quit a month ago. I haven't been reading the forums and I have more or less played maaybe 10-15 min a day when waiting for things.
Even those 10-15 min now are stale. I couldn't quit cold turkey but I think I've successfully weened myself off. Not thinking about refresh timers or proper shield hopping feels like freedom. I'd highly recommend it.0
