Would this change help the cover acquisition problem?

So I got to thinking about how in Tennis and Golf, you frequently have top players skipping events, yet they still remain atop the rankings. In golf this is because winnings determine rankings and there is more money to be had at the Majors and other bigger events. And in tennis there are more ranking points to be had at the Majors, and other higher prestige events.

Since the devs don't seem to ever want to make an event "non-season" and we know people protect their season ranking even in tournaments they don't need the prizes, what if there were a handful (let's say 4 or 5, so close to half) of PvPs that counted DOUBLE, but also had the better rewards (newer characters). That way, people could take it easy in the "lesser" events, while knowing they could more than make up for it by racking up 1200+ in these "major" events.

The obvious flaw in this is that people will still go hard in every event to give themselves a little bit of an edge against the competition, or just to go after the extra iso handed out to those placing top 5. So maybe rewards would need to be tweaked further to discourage that behavior. Anyway, I'm not even convinced myself that it's a great solution, but I thought it was at least a new idea and something to consider. Interested to hear what you top players think, would you actually take the "lesser" events easy or just go extra hard for the double events and get burnt out even faster/harder?

The problem is that in tennis and golf, there's only one winner. So the person that wins a major has an advantage over 2nd place by a whole ton of money. Much more than 2nd place has an advantage over 3rd.

In MPQ Seasons, there's only so many points available, and everyone has access to same points. Gaining a 400 point advantage over someone else, instead of a 200 point advantage doesn't matter when you skip an event and fall behind by 1100-1400.
  • If someone actually needs D3 to put in some measures so they can stop playing the game over covers they don't need for a seasons placement that very likely turns into more covers that they don't need, these people need to seek serious help, fast.

Really it would just make more sense for them to have a couple non season PvPs, for the flaw that you reference. They could run at the same time as the season ones, but be staggered by a day so everyone could still realistically compete.

As an alliance commander, I would tell the team that the non-season events are optional. As a hardcore player, I would still compete in the non-season events, but wouldn't press myself to score as much (and wouldn't shield).
