How I learnt to stop worrying and love the Bagman

Another probably TL;DR account for the F2P experience. Never posted, but have been lurking a while and, as someone who lives with actual fuzzy tinykitties, I love every single reference to tinykitties no matter the context.
I live in a timezone which makes it impossible to place in any PVP without shielding and gets royally tinykittied in most PVEs (in the last one, dropped from 37th to 114th place in the final hour thanks to work and thus failed to get She-Hulk), so from the start I was (could never be more than) just a casual player wanting a light time-waster who enjoys collecting characters, usable or not. If not for lack of roster space, I would happily keep Yelena and Bagman too, just because they exist. Collecting HP is hard for a casual player once you've cleaned out the Prologue awards, though I did benefit from the brief period when normal tokens sometimes dropped HP instead of a cover and 3*/4* covers could be sold for HP (got enough to expand my roster by one whole slot!).
Started just after the 2* Wolvie nerf as I understand it, though I didn't know of any such thing at the time, and my first usable (and also first maxed) 2* was Wolvie, and I took my Wolvie and OBW (which for some reason I always read as Old Black Widow) to PVPtown, specialising in gleefully picking on 2* Thor/OBW teams even after maxing Thor/Ares. They made an efficient team that allowed me to kill off the opposing team quickly while exiting with full or close to full health, so prologue healing was only for occasional accidents. Sadly quite terrible on defense, since they're both relatively squishy stacked against Thor/Ares.
Mainly, I play PVEs for progression rewards and maybe top 50 placement if it ends on a weekend, lightning rounds to 50 points for a standard token and fight my way up to 300 points in PVPs for heroic tokens. Leveled characters as I got covers, until sometime in Season 1 I got overenthusiastic trying to get the 50 HP award at 900 pts because I was just short of that much to buy a new roster slot and had a new character queued up. I made 900 but lost 300 points in the same timeframe, last 15 minutes of that PVP round, and so never got the HP. Ended by giving up my poor MBW. I've since tried to collect her again twice, and also MNM and MHawkeye multiple times, but always had to drop them for new 3*s. Now they're back, together with 2*Cap, but if I somehow get She-Hulk someone will have to budge. It makes me sad. New roster slot at 450 HP.
Then I drew a Hulk cover and raised him to level 66. This was my highest level 3* at the time, mind. And BOOM. 212/141/141 enemies everywhere, what the everloving tinykitty? Cue first visit to the forums, where I learnt more than I ever wanted to know about MPQ. And tinykitties.
Quoth the wise forum vets, Thou Shalt Tank And Stuff, and I was all But they are all my precious tinykitties! I will never hurt them!!! Boo! Never! Not even DD or Rags or Forever L15 Spidey!
Ahem. So obviously that was never going to work out. Eh. I was a bit bummed. And tired of grinding. Dusted off my 1*s and 1-6 cover 3*s and fielded them against the seed teams in lightning rounds and lower level nodes in PVEs for added flavour, so I still mostly won, but took some damage. Got lazy and started allowing my PVP teams to finish off enemies without healing to full health, rotating Thor/Ares/Wolvie as they got too injured to safely continue, saving health packs for OBW (Still The Best, notwithstanding Patch's red.)
Oddly enough, that worked. The 212/141/141 teams mostly disappeared, replaced by 85/85 teams, and even some teams of non-maxed 2*s. (This part I actually have been meaning to post for the past couple of weeks as I wondered if it might help people having problems with their MMR and scaling, but I signed up for the forum and then forgot my password and couldn't get it sent to my email. Finally got a new account, this time with saved password.)
And along the way, I somehow picked up enough covers to get IM40 and Hulk to L102 and Punisher to L89, and they joined my rotation as moderately effective semi-regulars. Not as easy as with Thor/Ares/Wolvie, true, but good enough thanks to higher health, though using them tends to make mixed 141/128/etc teams surface until I switch back to my 2*s. I accidentally a deep roster and good MMR, as it were.
Meanwhile, with True Healing, PVP is suddenly... not so intense. It's annoying for me too, but Top 10 in the 700-1000 range where they used to go well over 1k? Whoa. I've managed to eke out top 10 placing with 3hr shields in the last two rounds, when previously I was just happy to get a top 100 with a shield after the rewards structure change. (Also somewhat accidental, as I was going for the HP progression awards and got further up than expected.) I have assorted 3*s slowly sauntering upwards, albeit very, very slowly, so I hold on to hope that Someday, My 3*s Will Become Useful.
I guess I'm one of the very lucky few who benefited from MMR and True Healing, and that's just strange. It just feels wrong, because I'm still a casual collector type of player and haven't really worked for it.
That said, the token drop odds has become truly, madly, abysmally out of whack. Several subs in the Mohawk Storm PVE ended at a surprisingly favourable time, relatively speaking, and I got the themed tokens (for top 100) for all of them. And every last pair (from the two subs) got me MNM and 2* Wolvie. Seriously. In pairs. Yay, two tokens! I can has Mohawk Storm pls? *click* MNM? *click* Wolvie? Every time. I think I got one Moonstone once for variation, but I got something like 5 or 6 MNMs from those tokens, for sure, because I only started collecting him for the required character nodes in that round, and... yeah. He's half-covered now.
Um. So this really is TL;DR. But I'm willing to sit back and see how the game shakes out with these and more upcoming changes. It's still fun, as long as I keep not trying too hard.

Excellent read. I was just browsing the forums to see if anyone talked about winning matches under full health causing a reset of the 141/141/212 hell that is normally my PvP experience.
I was playing DD PvP today, using 141 hood-punisher with a relatively low level DD. I won a few barely, used all my health packs, skipped a fight, and suddenly there was an 85/85/23. yay. i beat it, took a little more damage in the fight, and skipped the 141/141/212 that defaulted to get a 50/85/23. repeated three more times (initial node was 141/141/212, replaced with an 85/85 type each time).
It seems that PvP is doable as long as I dont heal. which is weird, but kinda okay with that.0 -

Heh. If it works for everyone, I've probably just tinykittied myself out of continued progress in 2*-3* transition.0 -
Oh frabjous day. The Dark Avengers token gave me a Sentry and he is now L18. 18! I feel so proud of little Fabio.
There were a lot of 3*s hitting on me in DD PVP and I had to shield at 766 points 8 hours before the end instead of 3, but that still put me in 9th place, whew.
And the near double motherlode of ISO I'd been slowly accumulating for ages due to lack of covers is now depleted. Back to scraping up 20 ISOs and my teeth from the pavement after I get beat up in PVE... oh wait, no lvl 133 Juggernaut and Ares in this sub?
What is going on, is it a holiday or something?
Edit: *facepalm* right after I post I saw the news about mStorm. I just used her red to save my bacon several times an hour or so ago!0 -
Hey, dr tinykittylove! What your in-game nick? I read your post and now don't want hurt you, if I meet you in PVPtown. You nice man and I remembered myself nine months ago...0

Aw, thanks. I'm blarghia, but don't worry about it, I know it's the nature of the game. I don't think you've stomped on me that I noticed before anyway.0 -
Nice sharing. It reminds me of the different phases of my mpq
Phase 1. "Yeah! I getting a token! More chance for my IM 35 maxing his red ability."
Phase 2. "Yeah, heroic tokens! More chance to get that OBW black!"
Phase 3. "Ok I really need that last Thor yellow to have it in the optimal combination... pls let me get it.... damn, it's a Patch yellow! Why do I need a patch!?"
Phase 4. "Yawn another 2*, another 250 iso.... I only need 3* tokens now so anything but the gold bling bling will excite me."
Phase 5. Click...Gold bling bling... click, "damn it's Sentry red! Why can't I get that last Patch yellow to max his healing!?"
Looking back I enjoy the distinct phases, for different reasons.0 -
