So I was unable to earn a she hulk cover in the last event. I feel like I might be in a higher mmr so I don't know when to enter this event. The player in me wants to jump in now, under the prospect of maybe grinding out a she hulk cover (last award given at about 100,000 points)...seems pretty hard to achieve though. In the same vein though I'm afraid if I jump in now I'm going to be put in with the whales and super players and get blown out of placing decently... any suggestions on when to start?

  • I always waited about half an hour, but not worrying about it this time. With changes, can't play PvE and PvP both successfully anymore, so I will stick with the 2.5 day events and target the 60000 token

Enter the subs as late as possible, you'll grind tons of points more easily. The more you wait, the higher points per node.
  • You do realize, this is not like the Heroic we just did? If I remember correctly (which right there tells you I"m probably wrong), the subs don't usually have good rb. The rb does not really kick in until the main opens at the end.
  • I realize that in just over an hour, each node points has more than doubled for me.

If your trying to obtain just a Sentry cover. Wait until literally 1.5 hours before the Heroic event ends. Points will be huge. You can usually clear about half of the progression rewards before the end. You will also have a better chance of getting all 3 sentry covers.

I don't know what your roster is like. A lot of the people are suggesting to join as late as possible. Fine for them, but I don't know how well you're going to do with a limited roster and I don't know if you're going to breeze through heroic nodes.

I will join later.. not saying when exactly but my main reason of joining later is to avoid getting stuck in a main bracket with all the grinders. However, I also find that joining too late is not too healthy as well as you get stuck with all the experienced players who have the good rosters who will try to rubberband - in the last 1.5 hours it's a race to complete as many nodes as possible so it can be quite pressured as well.

And note that last time, this did have main nodes, so you should probably be able to RB up to progression rewards

With true healing and sharding, this is no longer a safe strategy. You might end up in a bracket with leaders that have been playing for an entire day of refreshes. And you might run out of health packs, especially in the more-challenging Heroic

Hmm. Maybe start 3 hours before.

I use this strategy with a secondary account and never use the health packs with it and still make top 50. However, i will be testing this strategy with my Main account as I am quite tired of losing our on covers just like I did with the Juggs Heroic days ago. So I will be going into this event already crippled from not having she-hulk.
  • Thing is, for the same enemies (lvl I mean) you can get twice as many points (or more).

Scaling goes as fast anyway. You just don't spend so much time grinding.

So basically what you guy's are saying is that if I enter on the last day of this 6 day event.. towards the end, say the last couple hours.. I have a good chance of placing well? Would I still have a chance at getting that She-Hulk cover? (last reward given out.. somewhere at like 100,000 points) I don't have her yet.

    No.

You have a good chance of placing well in the last sub; not sure about the event overall. Safe approach for now is to place well in all subs.
No, you probably won't have a chance at She-Hulk with only 2-3 hours left unless the rubberbanding in this event beats the record. Which is unlikely imo.

I guess what I'm asking is when do I jump in?... On a specific day of the event? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "the end of a sub"

There's no real correct answer. If there were an indisputable "best" time to join, then it would be absolutely full with veterans, so that it would no longer be the best time to join.

But, there are a couple of key general times that you would join based on your playstyle.

    Super-early (First few hours):
    • You'll find that there are a lot of heavy grinders, especially up in that top 20 range.
    • If the overall progression reward gets reached (and rubberbanding is weak), these are the people most likely to reach it.
    • In order to be top 20, you will likely need to keep pace the entire week, especially since it's not clear as to whether there is main-node rubberbanding at the end.
    • Most people, however, won't keep up for the duration of the event.

    Middle (Day 2):
    • Many veteran players will join sometime before the first sub ends (I think it ends in around 14 hours from now?) There are three primary reasons for this:
      • The rate at which brackets fill up coupled with sharding. If the players join a bracket after the first sub ends, there is a possibility that they will join a bracket that includes players who did have the opportunity to play the first sub, making it very very difficult to catch up. Though, not a big deal if there is main rubberband later on. So, by participating in the first sub, they eliminate that possibility.
      • Overall point accumulation. By participating in the first sub, a large amount of points are available to them for very little effort (because of rubberbanding.) This would keep them in line for most any progression rewards while also making sure their alliance is well within striking distance for the cover.
      • Rewards. Every sub is another opportunity for easy ISO/HP/tokens. HP is pretty plentiful in PvE and that HP is probably what people use for "extras" (cover upgrades, roster slots...)
    • You would end up playing 1 (or 2?) days less than those who have joined super early, which would likely affect scaling later on in the event.

    Late (After Day 2):
    • By this point, you'll have passed most of the players being "serious" about the PvE.
    • The risk of joining a bracket with players who have been participating in the event for awhile grows considerably. It's not unheard of to be in a bracket that was open for 24 hours already, putting you in an uphill battle. The longer you wait, the longer brackets are open.
    • Unless there is main rubberbanding, you're unlikely to get the top progression rewards (but it's still possible if they were very overshot.)

The End (Hours before the end of the event):
    • This is the sprint. If you join at the end, you are betting that you can outrace everybody else who decided to do the same on one single playthrough. If you are super confident in your roster, then it's the way to get the rewards with the least amount of playing.
    • There is still the possibility of being in a bracket where there are players who have an extra sub on you. At that point, if there is no main rubberbanding, you just can't win - you rolled the dice and you lost.
    • Obviously not going to win any covers/ISO/HP from the subs.

Overall, the more you wait, the more variability is introduced and the riskier things are. My best advice is to think about what your play schedule will look like over the next 5-6 days...if there's a entire day or 2-day gap in there somewhere, then start afterwards (while avoiding starting close to after a sub ends.) If you don't think you can play semi-consistently through the end of the event from when you start, you'll likely just set yourself behind.

Also, unfortunately, since we've never done this event with this format before, we don't know if there is going to be main rubberbanding, which completely changes so many things...which makes the answer so much more convoluted.
  • Looking at the current pace I'd say trying to hit 100K is out of the question unless you plan to join and grind like crazy in the next 15 hours or so, but if that was your plan all along you wouldn't be asking this question.

At this point it really boils down to whether you think you'll join a bracket where you're one of the first guys to fill the bracket as opposed to one of the last guy to fill the bracket. If there's no main bracket rubberbanding you got no chance of catching up from behind if you're one of the last, and even with main bracket rubberbanding it's harder than it looks to catch up, because if you're someone who can easily catch up you shouldn't be asking this question and just join the first day. It might help if you have some friends that just joined and see how many people are in the bracket they just joined. Yes there is sharding so you might not end up in the same bracket, but it's still better than randomly guessing.

Sadly OP, by the time you get to the ridiculous 100k to get a single measly She-Hulk cover the majority of the event will be over, thus negating the reason why (?) you wanted her in the 1st place. -unlocking the feature character nodes.-

If your worried about this; its better to just chalk this one up as a loss and wait for a better event or tourney to get her cover. Don't forget this is also a heroic, so that means a poorly synergised, **** roster. and no more in or out-of-event healing.
  • Should I even bother trying for sentry? I have a level 15 daredevil and level 32 punisher.. Lol. 2 usable characters- rest of roster locked out. I really dont stand a chance of getting very far lol..
