Alternatives to PvP and PvE
Options
I think that the blow felt by losing OBW healing may be lessened if people had a third option in MPQ. Perhaps a quest based event that allowed you to win tokens and the occasional three star without competition. Maybe even make them timed or last as long as you can, then people will have more advancement opportunities and D3 can still make some money on health packs from paying customers. What say you?

Or how about giving Bullseye and 2* Daken third abilities and adjust their scaling accordingly? Would give more options for the Black/Purple/Blue for 2*0

Long ago, I proposed the idea that they could do an 'endless mode'.
Where the enemies get progressively harder after each match and you have to win as many times as possible in a row. With rewards being handed out after certain consecutive wins. If you wipe out, you fall back to your previous reward tier and get to try again.0 -
I think it would be great to have a a mode like PvE but without the competition with other users.
Single player, with progression rewards for a short period of time (2-3d) and without rubber banding, refilling nodes, etc. You would be able to play whenever you would like and you would be limited just by the healing packs, and the number of characters in your roster.
I would LOVE a mode like this.0 -
Exactly. It seems the main issue with the loss of healing is the inability to play for a long period of time. With something like a third option, you can reward players for whatever you want. Play 8 hours a day? Survive this marathon and win a 3star! Have a full roster with under-developed characters? Divide your roster into 5-10 teams of three and see if each team can survive their own battle. If they all win, here's a 3star? Mixing it up will make alot of people happier.0

I needed to register just to give a big thumbs up to these ideas. I only have time to play a couple times a day and want nothing to do with pvp. To me the pve feels like pvp because you are still playing other people for the good prizes. They got $25 out of me so that I could buy roster spots but I would pay another $25 right now if there were a package where I could just get a steady stream of covers from the supply drop and mission rewards with out ever looking at another players roster or scores. Maybe if the supply drop gave a 2-star on every third day you played a match and a 3-star every tenth or something with this package. In this system I could still do all the pve events, but they don't even need to record a score for me, I would be excluded from any rankings and happy about it.
As a pretty new player with only a couple covers for the 2-stars my experience in the last few days has been very frustrating going up against players that have a larger roster of people to use in the event and full covers for all of their 2-stars (not to mention the fact that they actually have 3 and 4 star characters, I checked their rosters on the leader board). I finished 11th in the even where I played like crazy because I just happened to have the day off. If my OBW would have had a single cover in the purple skill that would have made the difference in a couple late matches for the and I would have been top ten. Instead I won a single recruit token from which I got a red 2-star Wolverine, which would have been great but my current Wolverine was sitting at 0/5/0 so it was unusable. Table flip. I'm not going to put myself through that again for such little reward.
Now I REALLY liked the rewards they had where you just got rewarded for reaching certain point values. At least I knew what I needed to do for certain rewards. Maybe taking away the leader board thing and adding more prizes to that would be all they need to do. Due to my small availability in playing time I could never get to the top stuff on time so I would really like it if they removed the time element and just had one big continuous point system or at least made the recruit tokens more plentiful on the list. The endless mode idea above seemed really interesting as long as loosing didn't put you all the way to the bottom because then you would reach a point were you never got any more covers.

Well I just found a page listing the rewards for the resupply crates and you start getting heroic tokens pretty regularly so I'm very happy about that. It looks to be around once every seven days which may not be often enough to keep me coming back, but its a good start. If you combined it with some of the other ideas offered here it might be enough to keep me playing.0

Alliance vs. Alliance battles.
"Raids" where alliance members all work together to take down a boss.
Actual player verus player live PVP.0 -
Yes. A thousand times, yes. New event modes are what I've been rooting for ever since I joined the forums 6 months ago. PvP and "PvE"-PvP event modes we have right now are both very competitive in nature. That's fine every now and then but I'm not paying for extra stress. I *might* give the devs some money again if we got true PvE and if alliances had some other practical use than being just extra reward tier in the current events.0

Dear Devs,
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make a game mode that I can play that has NOTHING to do with comparing my score to the scores of other people. Doing something like the current PVE events with more ladder prizes and not place based prizes would be fine and simple. Thank you.0 -
So in essence, a "true" single player mode?
Not to dampen the idea (cos I like the prologue when I first started), but if it's 3* cover that you want as rewards, you are unlikely to get it.
Thus far, D3 has make the 3* as "chase" items, and hence they are trying to keep it scarce by only giving out to top 5 to 10%. In pve they try to keep it scarce by ensuring that the second cover from progression reward is set at a high level.
So this "single" player mode you are thinking about needs to hand out rewards in a similar proportion too.
Looking at the pve progression reward (and pve is really a single player mode), you are looking at 1 3* cover for every 5 to 7 days. If you grind more, probably 3 days.
My advice to you, if you are not keen on the pve rewards is to go after the progression rewards instead. There's no competition there and you can plan your schedule around achieving the target.0 -
In a sense, the SHIELD pvp already provides this. Yes, you can play competitively for season rewards. You can also just play. It is where I play to test out different character combinations or to practice with the next featured pvp character.
I have a deep roster and in a normal pve or pvp don't get to play many of them. Using the SHIELD pvp as a playground let's me play more of my characters and gives me something to do when the featured players are recovering. It also provides more covers and ISO.0 -
I've been hoping for some kind of noncompetitive PvE mode since I started playing this game. There's a million different kinds of things they could do, variations of challenges or progressively more difficult battles as people here have suggested. They've said they're going to be making a big announcement at Comic Con, and I keep hoping that maybe it'll be some kind of new game mode along these lines.
The biggest roadblock to something like this is they have to figure out a way where they're not just giving out prizes without having some way built into it where they're making money off someone. One of their main tactics lately have been high volume 1* and 2* drops to force roster increases from new players, which they could still do here. They could potentially sell some boosts and health packs depending on how such an event was structured, perhaps if there were tight time constraints to put pressure on players to win quickly. They could also go to the featured character well yet again to try and stimulate pack sales. It could be made to work, but it would take a little creativity on their part, which up to this point they've been reluctant to put any effort into.0 -

This from the team that's released five lazy characters so far? Yeah, probably not.0 -
I would like a PvE that is actually PvE. It has always been that PvE isn't really PvE. Besides prologue, you either have fighting against developer selected teams in a point race with other players, or fighting against player selected teams in a point race with other players. Make a mode with no point race.
Give a set of hard fights, with rewards completely unaffected by other players. Just look at what Hearthstone is doing with their Naxxramas update.0 -
We have a mode that isn't pve or pvp, it's called story and it's boring and useless. Maybe if we added things like the prodigal sun chapters to it or something.
Maybe a good idea is to take every pve competition we've had and turn them into story chapters then every so often run them as pve tourneys like they were before. Basically every pve that runs gets converted to story right after that gives us more to play and relax with0 -
There's nothing I would like more for this game than an extensive, original Puzzle Quest style, single-player campaign. Nothing. I suspect that F2P, ruiner of all that is good in this world, means we'll never see it.0

Almost anything would suffice.0

IceIX teased that D3 was working on at least two new "big features." Big reveal at Comicon?0

They are supposed to reveal something new at the marvel panel today (7/26) at 1230 PST at SDCC. Hopefully it is more than "here is a trailer for 4 new 3* characters" and is a cool new gameplay mode or mechanic. <fingers crossed>0
