When to Hold on to Covers

I am a bit curious as to at what point I should be keeping multiples of a cover. Only at the point where I have every cover out there at max level and have extra cover space? With the new characters slowly rolling out, should you likely never build a second of any cover?

In my case, I have every character out there, and most are at max level or fairly close, and I have three empty cover slots. I have quite a few spare covers in the cache getting close to expiring (IM 40, Thor, Storm Classic, Cap, etc.). In my case, I assume it is best to just sell them off and invest my Iso in finishing leveling my current covers, but at what point do you start building a second cover? I would think that if you had a fully leveled Rag, you might want to hold on to extra covers and start building a second (although possibly not leveling him). Thoughts?

  • The only time I'd ever consider building an alt would be for 3-ability characters that support alt builds.

There have been discussions that suggest that characters like C. Storm (5/4/4 seems best, but some go 5/5/3) and 2-star Wolvie (5/3/5 is best IMO, but some people seem to like 5/5/3) might have viable alternate builds, for instance.

For your Ragnaroks and your Dooms that only have 10 max cover slots, and not 13, which means they only have one way to develop them (max out both skills at 5 apiece), there doesn't seem to be any reason to keep multiple versions IMO.
  • The only reason I can think of is to have multiple copies of a heavily used character so you reduce usage on health packs.

But I don't think having multiple copies of ANY character makes sense given how expensive cover slot spaces are and the amount of ISO you would need to level a second version up.

The reason for me to want multiples of a cover is really not to see different builds, it is to have on in the reserve healing while I am using the other. When one is down, switch to the other. If I had two max level Thors, I would be very happy... but that brings me back to the initial question of it would ever be worth even building a second cover of a char (leveling that second cover at some point, but probably not right off).

I am thinking the question really comes down to can I get Iso fast enough that I can level covers faster than they put out new covers. If, in the next couple months, I have every cover maxed out, I am probably going to be kicking myself for selling off those Thors...
  • I'm building a second Wolverine in earnest. When he's done, I'll have 2 5/3/5 Wolverines. Why? His revive timer is low enough to where burning heal packs is somewhat wasteful and I use him all the time. Why use a heal pack when I can send in my second string Wolverine? icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • I managed to train max powers for several covers before I understood the power cap. So my 85 Thor is 4/4/5, which I truly hate. Since I haven't seen a single hint that the much-requested respec ability will ever come, I've started putting extra Thor covers into a new copy aimed at 5/5/3.

If I continue to fail to obtain rag and doom covers, I may throw in the towel and level up the second Thor. At that point I suppose the first Thor would become a backup for conserving health packs.

I gotta say, that kinda sounds like a waste of ISO and HP, and ultimately, a waste of the time and effort it would take to save up all that ISO and HP. For me anyway.

If I were in your spot, I would probably max out all my favorite characters to level cap first, then continue to play and sit on my ISO and HP and wait patiently for Hulk and all the other new incoming characters, and level the living daylights out of *those* the second I got 'em. Just IMO.
  • I actually have 2 maxed 1* Storms. I don't necessarily regret it, but she was really helpful when I still only had a few 2* covers. I would only recommend building 2nd 3* covers, since iso would be sparse by the time you have 2 maxed 2* covers and won't have any left for any 3* covers you own, but it all depends on your plans/builds.

I feel the same way. You'll find that when you reach the higher tiers of players, healing downtime is rarely a thing to be concerned about.

HP and ISO is too valuable to spend on these sorts of things.
  • Where do you find the ISO to build extras? I can barely level up mains.
  • Each cover is a huge ISO sink, even 1*.

If you are playing smart you should :

    1) spend all your free HP on cover slots, until you have like 15 or so and the price goes up
    2) ditch all your 1*'s with minimal investment needed to progress in the story/tournaments enough to get wolverine/thor/storm at a decent level (50+). If you're having bad luck you can subsitute daken or captain america. don't invest in more than 3 2*s.
    3) never buy any recruits with ISO. you can buy the premium packs with your free HP once you have enough cover slots.
    4) transition to 3*'s while leveling up your team of wolverine/thor/storm. if you play often enough and are smart about not attacking/retaliating when it doesn't make sense, you should do well enough in tourneys that you will get enough 3*s that your ISO collection rate will actually not be sufficient to level up the 3*s.
    5) decide what 3*s you want to level up, but this is highly luck dependent. it'll probably be im40 if they keep focusing on him as the reward for half the events + some other random ones you get from packs and the occasional tourney win. keep your 3*s (my opinion) although some of them are kind of bad atm, but you should have enough cover slots. ragnarok and spiderman are top notch. the rest are not bad if you have enough to get them to 100+. except loki, he sucks.

i wish I had followed my own advice when I started a month ago but I didn't know better. i had a couple max level 1* and tried to level up way too many 2*s as well. i also bought a bunch of packs with ISO because at the start you have more than you need. i ended up selling every single 1* and 2* except thor/wolverine/storm. and as soon as my spiderman/ironman/ragnarok overtake my thor/wolverine/storm i'm selling them too!
  • Due to the way the devs boost covers, it's actually a good idea to keep your leveled ones around.
