What makes a 3*?

My 3* IM40 is currently at level 89. He still hasn't overtaken my LVL 80 Thor on Yellow and Red tiles, and casting Thor's red ability twice causes as much damage as IM40s red and is cheaper by 1 AP and as an added bonus adds yellow tiles.

C.Storms blue can almost be cast twice for the same AP as IM40's blue - which is just as damaging and has extra stun.

IM40s yellow - not only a risk to use, but also stuns himself....

I'm have to spend 1500+ ISO now per level, and at the end of it all it seems I'm going to end up with a character who's only slightly better than a 2*.

Are all 3* characters going to be as useless at sub-100 levels??

  • Yeah they're not too good. Not sure why they're 3* at all. I didn't level mine and you probably shouldn't either.

  • yea stick with your c.storms wolvs and thors, rags and magneto and spidey and IM40 stink icon_twisted.gif
  • icon_lol.gif Sooty & DumDumDugn, you guys are hilarious!

But in all seriousness, to respond to the OP's original concern: I believe the scale is different for 3*s, and as such it will take much longer see their abilities really shine. It's an investment to be sure...but in the end you'll definitely have someone who can kick around Thor! icon_e_wink.gif
  • I really think the first two responses weren't too serious icon_e_wink.gif.

Yes, the scaling is different, but on the other hand it costs less iso to level a 3 star at the same level as a 2 star to indicate that you get less power per level. Most 3 stars shine with their potential, a few of them are already really strong if they have the skills maxed but only a few level (rag, spidey and perhaps hood) and others like magneto, doom and iron man take time but they get massive at the end.

In particular I think you are seeing or using your iron man the wrong way. Expecially the yellow skill is what makes him so useful with 2 stars that are stronger than him early level. If you have 2 or 3 points in it and pair him with thor and c. Storm he can fuel all of their abilities. A 2 turn stun? Who cares, you get the ap right away and you say yourself that he can't tank at the moment. Try it, the ability is easier to use as it seems, just clear the board of all yellow matches beforehand. And for the other two skills you have to look at the big picture. His red will eventually get stronger than thors, it is capped at 3600 or so and his Blue does 2600 to all enemies at the end. Ok you can say that c. Storm does as much as this if she has 22 ap but that's a defense thing now: the truth is if I fight against a c. Storm she never lives long enough to cast her Blue even once because of her low hit points. But iron man has a massive amount of them and also is most of the time not the threat I want to deal with first. So I get hit more often with iron mans ae than storms.

I hope that helps you somewhat icon_e_smile.gif

Yeah, I was just expecting that a 3* character that was the same level or better than a 2* character should be obviously better, which isn't the case. Due to all my ISO going into him, I've been unable to compete in a few tourneys due to having not invested in other characters - and I'll need to keep investing ISO into him until LVL 110-120 before he might start becoming useful. I just hope it pays off.

I must be having real bad luck with the recharge, even when I clear most of the yellows off the board, the randomness almost always puts them on the remaining yellow tiles at the top of the board not the hard to get to ones at the bottom, and as the game detects the lack of yellow in play, it gives them priority when new tiles drop. So before the 2 turns are up I have at most 1 recharge tile left. If I have Thor on my team I find it's almost always better to go for the guaranteed 2000 damage from the yellow AP.

I don't use C.Storm in play very often anymore, but I do miss her blue occasionally. As C.Storms blue with 22AP will hit all opponents for 3400 damage (1690 per cast) with the added stun bonus, rendering the opponents best characters out of the game as they are usually downed before the stun runs out - seems much better than IM40s at blue max level.

Haven't really played with any of the other 3*s yet, so maybe IM40 just isn't the best example of a 3* character, as his abilities seem more in line with that of a 2* character.
  • Storm IS good though, make no mistake icon_e_biggrin.gif

Storm + Rag = infinite combo of doom
  • @ CaptainBatman - You are so wrong about IM40, it's even useful to pair him up w/ Thor. The reason? When he's max, you won't be worry that Thor and Storm being target for their symbol. (IM40 will be taking their damage for them. especially his Red tile, and his HP is the reason why he's being made to be a tanker. Absorbing damages while giving ap for deadly combos for both Storm / Thor or any characters that's RED / BLUE / YELLOW.
Trust me, MAX him and you will know how deadly when being pair tgt with Thor or any characters. Cos his a tanker and able to earn the ap fast.

I start to see his potential even more when being pair tgt with Cap / Storm. I am still testing him out, but sooner or later. He's gg to replace my Thor as the no.1 character soon if I got other characters in it.
MAX him and you won't regret. icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • IM40 is basically there just to take a beating and power up thor / storm. Yeah he eats up yellow, but at the conversion rate you'll get almost the same amount back when thor uses his red, so its like superpowering thor's red + storm or spiderman's blue. Which is worth it to use less of thor's yellow IMO, since the red is much better damage once you throw in the random match potential.

But before he can do any of these things he has to be level 100+. And even at that level, if some how your other 2 guys get popped, lvl 140 IM40 still sucks because he is sLOWwwwwwwwwwww and if there are 2 or more healthy opponents left he's basically screwed.

You forget he packs a wallop -- his red will take down most full health 2* covers, and his blue will do severe damage to the entire opposing team. Yes, they drain AP, but that's a non-issue if you're the last one standing; if you're not, you just fire other powers FIRST. He's slow, but he's strong.

And, honestly, I don't think he pairs well with Thor. I like him better with Wolverine (powering up his green). The colors for Wolverine and Thor are the same, except Wolverine doesn't care about yellow (at least at 5 yellow), and his green is amazing instead of "meh" like Thor's.
  • the only thing that makes a 3* is level cap

there are large differences between the strengths of 3* cards. im40 is def on the weaker side.

He seems to be fairly unique for a three star, more tanky with some high damage requiring a ton of ap. But a very good character that I just can't seem to fit in to any team.

Loki is the true oddball of the *** group.

The rest are just extreme damage dealers, all in their own way.
