lowest version of android required to play mpq?

forgot my old phone was rooted so now i have to deal with a manual update. what is the lowest version of android required? I read it was 2.3 but It might be considerably higher now (for all i know). If anyone could link me so something with this info or just say..that would be great. Not even sure if this game is worth the hassle at this point with all the things that have and have not been happening. If it weren't for the fact i prob need to update to play ANY games i prob wouldn't bother. Anyway, i would appreciate the info.

Google play says it is compatible with Android 2.3 and higher. Maybe it won't run smoothly on an old device, but it should run anyway.

Doesn't run smooth on my Nexus 5 on 4.4.3.
Never had this problem before the last update.
