Just found it interesting that D3go is has a new forum section for their brand new GI Joe game.

And it already has an Event Calendar posting even though it won’t launch for 13 days.

Dang.  I loved GI Joe as a kid.  I played the Dena GI Joe game until they closed it.  That is how I found MPQ.  I will not know which one to play.  I have so much time and money into MPQ I hate to give it up.  I may have to be a casual player on GI Joe.

The game looks interesting. It reminds me of Clash Royale or a variation of tower defense games.  How popular is G.I. Joe?

Different developers. D3 go is simply the distributer.

Moving MPQ to the right side, subconsciously 2nd place, like we as a posting community need to do more.  Now that's predatory.

The top-left slot is simply the default position for when a new sub-forum is created, therefore MPQ and MTGPQ were incidentally shifted over. It wasn't to subconsciously rank our game sub-forums.

Looks like boom beach or Rush Wars supercell recently shut down but with GI Joe instead.  Hope it goes well

Could Joe be the reason why 5* release was pushed back to the 27th?

Joe will be released on the 20th, which happens to be the week 5* is supposed to be released.

They are completely different developers. I don’t think that’s the reason.

I am curious if maybe the awaited rewards update will happen in the next week or two, and that work, on top of the extended holiday break they enjoyed, meant a delayed character.

It is also somewhat possible that they are slowing down the release schedule since the response to many new characters is heavily influenced by the increasing dilution.

Possibly, but unlikely, the rewards update will somehow make dilution feel less-bad and it would be better to have that in place before the next 4.

I feel like business as usual is not returning the results they used to get, either way.

Ha...I love GI Joe.  Unfortunately I don't have time to add another daily game on top of MPQ.  Secondly, the artwork really turned me off, much to childish/blockish looking art.  If the art was closer to the original series, I may have actually taken a look at it.

The only thing I've ever liked about GI Joe were the PSA parodies.

    So just a friendly reminder.

I think that art style must be intended to remind people of the Clash IP, who seem to own the various base-building F2Ps. It's usually a solid strategy when constructing a Me-Too game design to look like what you are referencing. I like the art style, and I'd probably enjoy that game as a premium purchase where I could just play it at my own pace. But i'm not looking for a second treadmill.

Unfortunately, Marvel's GI Joe comic book was a direct market book and not sold through the newstands here in the UK so we could never ever get it as at that time there were no specialised comic book stores where I lived. Ditto the cartoon series wasn't shown to my knowledge here or if it was I never saw it, so it was only through the licensed version that got launched later on (1987-ish?) where it was renamed Action Force that we got any Joe content and by then my attention was being drawn away to other things...

If anybody has seen the TV series the "Toys that made us", the G.I. Joe one is one of the better ones and I found it a pretty cool watch. I had never known that the UK's Action Man was just Joe with another name!

Is there a new G.I. Joe series out or is there a revival of the IP or something? I know there was a film a few years back but that looked quite bad so I never watched it.

Ooh - one cool GI Joe anecdote - the toy manufacturers who went to Marvel to design the back story etc for G.I. Joe in the '80s originally didn't want any bad guys! Bad guys don't sell!!! Legendary Marvel Comic book Editor Archie Goodwin was astonished "Well who does G.I. Joe fight aginst then?!!?" - the Toy guys didn't have a clue and hadn't even thought about it. Just imagine what this game would called without Archie Goodwin (who I believe also invented the Cobra Commander) - G.I Joe: Uhm...well we have nobody to fight, lets get a beer!

Apparently later this year (October), we will be getting a Snake Eyes film which is filming now (or just finished).  I'm not sure what other things they might be pushing, but they are apparently still working on a 3rd GI Joe film with more of the characters in it.  The first two are both somewhat in the "dumb but fun" category if you enjoyed the cartoon or toys.

I think it's just a very well known IP and it's hard to stand out in the App Store, especially now, so the advantage was worth the (presumably not too high) licensing costs.  I would also assume Hasbro is interested in getting GI Joe into people's minds again if they are ramping up towards movies, and they seem to think they can get a Hasbro Cinematic Universe going at some point.

I like the story from Toys that Made Us about how Snake Eyes came about - basically they (the toy designers) were being told that they had to save N% of detail off of the toy line to reduce cost, so rather than do a blanket detail reduction of n% to everyone, they just made an all-black character with a mask-face and put the whole N% onto a single figure to save that cost.

There was a pretty cool GI Joe animated film from the early 00s called GI Joe: Resolute that had a great look. It was decidedly up-aged from the old cartoon, it opened up with Major Bludd bleeding out on the steps of the lincoln memorial or something crazy. Haven't watched it in awhile.

Having just gone back to watch some of those, they have aged much better than I would have expected, particularly compared to other popular Internet items from the time.

Yeah, I realized during the first GI Joe movie when the Cobra team uses drill-vehicles to bore through miles of desert into the secret GI Joe base that it was a movie that you would either accept on its own ridiculous terms or one you just wouldn't like.
