Stuttering and slowness

in Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns
I get periodic but fairly regular slowdowns and stutters, usually right after making a match but before the match graphics happen and the game progresses. I'm not sure how that's even possible on a game this old running on hardware this new, but hopefully it can be diagnosed and fixed. Thanks!

    I get a single second and a half starter/freeze during the match from time to time just as the tiles drop down.

    the world map is very laggy, too.
    hard to click icons on screen, but sometimes it is hard to move by controller.

    no more update? any milestone to fix these laggy or annoy problems?

    I confirm, is ridiculous when you compare the power of the Switch with a 35$ (when on sale) Fire tablet that can sustain 10 to 100 times more explosive and longer combos in Candy Crush. 

    The good part is that PQ is a more cerebral game so is not that annoying when it happens (for me, when docked, every time I destroy/chain a 5xScull or 5 of the same and the game calculates the bonus tile.
