New all over again

I played MtGPQ when it was new and played for the first year or so until a horrible customer service influenced me to quit. Out of curiosity I decided to consider playing again, but upon logging, no one of my decks seem to be allowed in events.
Was there some type of rotation? How do the different deck slots work? Beginner and Advanced decks? These forums seem a mess so I couldn't make heads or tails of what's what, despite replaying all the tutorials.
Any non-trolling help would be greatly appreciated.

Due to the large number of sets currently in MTGPQ, the devs implemented a standard rotation. It includes Origins and the 4 most recent sets. Right now that means standard-legal sets are
Origins
Hour of Devastation
Ixalan
Rivals of Ixalan
Dominaria
Any other cards can only used in legacy events (look for a blue banner, similar to the one you probably see on your deck). Check the event rules (the i button on the top right) for event-specific rules (some have special node rules and stuff) and set restrictions.
Also, Welcome Back!! Nice to see people giving the app another try.2 -
To answer the second question, the beginner, advanced, etc deck lists were initially player submitted decks for the planeswalkers, and later were predefined then the planeswalker is released. Collecting all the cards in the deck gives rewards, but the decks can not be customized. In addition to that you can purchase two additional, customizable slots, one by using runes once the planeswalker is at level 60 and the other using mana crystals (the yellow premium currency)0

I can imagine after so much time away that you probably feel short on cards that you can use for current events. It's not much, but if you participate in the Training events that can be accessed through Story Mode, you'll learn the new mechanics that can use in the game. Additionally, after every victory you get a new card that can be used in the standard-legal sets @Mburn7 was referring to. The cards aren't really that great, but partnered with whatever Origins cards you have in your collection, you should be able to hit the ground running and start adding new cards to your collection.0

Add to this, if it's been long enough that you've been gone, check your cards to see if you had any duplicates before leaving. When you go to your card list and convert them, you'll also get orbs in addition to runes. The orbs can be used to craft standard-legal cards. Hopefully that helps you catch up!FindingHeart8 said:I can imagine after so much time away that you probably feel short on cards that you can use for current events. It's not much, but if you participate in the Training events that can be accessed through Story Mode, you'll learn the new mechanics that can use in the game. Thanks all for the info. Yeah, it feels like starting from ground zero.0

I can see how you'd feel that way. Fortunately for you, every time there is a new set introduced, the oldest set in standard gets shifted to legacy, and we're all set-back a bit, so stick with the game for a bit and you'll have no problem catching upROTBI said:Thanks all for the info. Ok, unrelated but I ha e another question. I'm using Dovin Baan. I have 21 loyalty right now but can't use "Improve". Am I missing something?0

There are two cards being legal right now that prevent players from using loyalty abilities, sorcerers spyglass and immortal sun, that's the most likely explanation. To the deck slots :You have one free deck slot per walker, as usual, but on top you get event deck slots that you can use during events that save the cards used (they don't save over to the next run of the event).I suggest doing the trainimgs, as mentioned above. To get used to the new standard, across ixalan (the twenty gold event) is the best way to try it out currently, with lots of charges and a low riskWelcome back! I hope you are still on a low tier, or the return might be even harder than starting new1

Might be an Immortal Sun on the battlefield. Or Spyglass. They prevent your PW from using loyalty abilities.ROTBI said:Ok, unrelated but I ha e another question. I'm using Dovin Baan. I have 21 loyalty right now but can't use "Improve". Am I missing something?0 -
There is Yawgmoth's offering now too but it's probably not that!1

Also one of the new events stops you from using planeswalker abilities for a full turn after doing a match-4, though I don't think that event is running right now.DumasAG said:

I still think its playable. Stealing creatures is fun! And the ability lockdown comes in handy a lotDumasAG said:
Too right! If only they'd mirrored it on the paper version and had it kill something, then bring a creature back. Would actually be playable.Kinesia said:There is Yawgmoth's offering now too but it's probably not that!0 -
BTW, do not convert duplicates in the cards tab, it might only give you runes. Going to Activity Hub should trigger an automatic conversion that will properly give you orbs.

Wait, is this a legitimate problem? cause I always convert in cards when it doesn't auto-convert.DBJones said:BTW, do not convert duplicates in the cards tab, it might only give you runes. Going to Activity Hub should trigger an automatic conversion that will properly give you orbs.
That's... irritating...0 -
I'm not sure, I've seen a couple people say it is. Activity Hub works perfectly though, so why risk it?

I’ve never had this problem0
