Specialty Token expiration

I'm sorry I couldn't find the answer any where else.

What happens if you acquire a specialty token (like gamma bomb, diabolic, etc.) and hold onto it and the event ends? Is the token always redeemable at any time or does it get converted to another token or do you simply lose the token?
