Have to pick TWO heroes at each tier or it is random?

So I heard something that if you only picked one Favorite character on each tier, then when you got a bonus it would either pick the favorite or a random one of that tier?

Can anyone confirm this or have seen it?

    You need to pick a character of each tier. If you do not pick a character of a specific tier then you will be assigned a random one. If you have chosen a character of a specific tier you will get that character. You only get the random one if you have not chosen.

    You only need to pick one from each tier level - No idea where you heard this "have to pick two" from.
    And you will only get that one hero.
    You can pick as many as you want and will get a random chance of the characters you have picked.
    If you haven't pick one for a specific tier you will get a random bonus hero for that tier should you draw a chance at a bonus hero.
