Story Mode/Quick Battle constantly makes server requests

Behavior: (This happens when I'm on either of the Story mode or Quick Battle tabs)
Every 5 seconds or so, the game seems to make a server request to update data (presumably for the quick battle), which sends it into the spin animation and finally reloading the page. Once the page reloads, I land on to the Quick Battle screen. If I try to go to the Story mission tab, it will happen every time, sending me back to the QB screen.

This makes it almost impossible to start any story mission, as it will try to refresh the page before I can select the mission + PW. If I'm super fast about it, I can get into a story mission, but it's far from usable.

    Samsung galaxy s6 edge+, updated to G928VVRS3BPI1, android version 6.0.1. This issue started happening today (9/29/2016)


    To be precise, the spinny screen shows these 4 messages:
    Fetching Player Event
    Loading Profile
    Fetching All Events
    Fetching Player Event

    This takes about 4-5 seconds to update. Then I get 4-5 seconds of free time where I can select things... then it loops again. It seems to me like there is a server update call mistakenly being made every 5 seconds.
