Different and new pvp events

This whole concept of adding diversity is so ridiculous to me but I can understand the desire. So instead of force feeding diversity into random boosted characters per pvp event, why not add parallel events with different themes that promote that diversity? You know all villains? All heroes, etc. etc. they already have these events just provide them as an alternative for people so they can choose which events to enter during the season.

  • Giving people a lot to do which can only be done within a short timeframe would tend to promote burnout, I think. Maybe it could be combined with locking out one event when the other is chosen (but that could feel frustrating too), or reworking PVP somehow to make each individual competition more lightweight?

Yes that is the thought, you get to choose one of the offered events. Same rewards for all.

I think an interesting twist on this might be if you were paired up against teams from the other event, so if you chose to play in the Heroes event, you'd only be fighting teams from the Villians event and vice versa. I have put no more then 5 seconds of thought into what sort of balance issues you'd run into here, but I thought it was a little unique.

You're way underselling you're idea. This could run during the season break, and they could use the season score code to have prizes for each event, and then you're total score for your Villians and your Heros.

You can't try to plan for balance in this game. D3 needs to plan for acceptable levels of imbalance at all times, and just admit that it will be an ebb and flow of acceptable imbalance. Your event would be way more balanced, because people would be on both sides of the imbalance.

they posted once that those types of pvp events weren't very successful. Specifically they showed the analytics from a Dark avengers pvp vs Captain America pvp

I was on board til this. One of the worst things they have done is force the same reward structure. Create events of varying difficulty, and make the rewards commensurate.

Horrible analysis. Yeah, weekends are higher play times, and that was completely contradicted by the stats, but there is so much more affecting the desirability of the event. What were the buffed chars? I want to say that DA locked out non DA chars, which people hate. What were the rewards?

I'm all for new themed events, but running two events side by side means players will just play twice as much and burn out faster.
  • The only problem with Heroes vs. Villains (which would be loads and loads of fun) is that villains are in such a ridiculous minority that it would be difficult to build a solid team. You would also have to somehow correct for the fact that there is still no 4* villain in the game. X-Force and (to a lesser extent) Thor and Fury give a bit of a built-in advantage to the hero side of the roster.

I have to stress, though: outside of the hero/villain disparity (which is the developers' fault), I love the idea of a hero vs. villain pvp where you have to choose a side. Would be incredibly cool.

    Well I was thinking more...

    Season 13 event 9
    Daken event (normal one)

    Event 9
    Heroes event (heroes boosted)

    Event 9
    Villains event (villains boosted)

Once you enter one for event 9, the others are no longer available to play...so it isn't to add another grind fest but more to offer options and alternatives. I can kick it old school with the normal event or if I have awesome heroes then I would obviously join the heroes event and same with villains. The interesting part would be would people still use xforce worth hood or loki in a villain event if xforce is overshadowed by another powerful boosted villain? so that's the idea.
  • I also wish there were automatic boosts like the avengers +60%, or xmen, +30% etc. that will also promote diversity...but I digress. I would like to go into a lot of detail but typing on the phone is a beast so you understand.

I like that idea too, like marvel ultimate alliance style. It would promote roster diversity as well I'd think. They could get more obscure and in depth than just known teams like xmen and avengers for different unique boosts, UA did a good job of that.

I wonder if the implementation of time slices has divided the player base up too much to add pick one of three events into the mix. Would the pools be too small?

    Even better!!!
