[POLL] How much should D3 refund for GThor

With the changes to the Goddess Thor coming on the 23rd, there will be a lot of people debating with themselves on if they should sell GThor to re-coup some HPs. If i remember correctly, when Sentry was nerfed, D3 offered 5000hp refund for a fully covered and leveled Sentry.

So, my question to you is, how much will GThor need to be refunded for to make you want to sell her?

edit - added the leveled Sentry part

In my opinion, there is no good answer to this question. Not because of how you have it written, but because of how much dedication it took for people to gather the ISO needed to level her, and all the time and effort it took to get her initial covers.

The only, off the wall, thing I came up with is some unusual form of compensation, like giving them all a fully maxed Prof X or something else that would take the same amount of time, effort, and HP to develop, and help with the fun aspect of the game for them. I know that's not fair to the player base that didn't yet build her, but as I said, just giving people HP and ISO and forcing them to sell her, doesn't really feel like an apology/compensation to me.

Oh, and Save Mystique, cause she's on her way from lower middle tier to bottom tier.
  • You do not remember correctly. Sentry wasn't worth nearly that much fully covered. It was a level dependent buyback.

I think they should offer a 100% refund to anyone who purchased covers inside a reasonable time window. Maybe 2 months from date of change. These people clearly did not get their imcoin.png from the character, not like someone who's had her fully covered for 6 months. Covers earned through game play should not be worth any imcoin.png beyond the "we changed this character so here is a buy back option".

Give me a few Prof X covers and Ill be happy. 1 of every color is good enough for me. I got a lot of use out of GThor and the nerf doesn't totally break her. She's still better than SL, IW, Electra, and arguably Fury.

There should be an option for zero refund, to be impartial...

You should probably look up previous buyback amounts before starting a thread like this. Like was mentioned, in the past, it's always been by level, not by number of covers.
  • Where is the option for 0? I don't think they should give a refund, but I don't see that option listed. However they should do the level based buy backs as they have done when characters have been changed in the past.
  • Level 270 buy back should be 2750 hp and around 200K in iso if I understand the nerfing buyback policy correctly.

If you are asking should they refund you something while letting you keep your 4Thor, that's a bit much.

I bought two (blue) covers for her and dumped enough iso to take her from 70 up to 250 literally two days before this was announced. Id settle for the ability to delevel, preferably with a recoup of some (but not all) of the iso spent.

And an explanation of how they see 4*s fitting into the power balance. Right now, it looks like XF is the outlier rather than the standard. I dont want 4*s on par with Beast.
  • It is a sad state of the game that the only option is sell to recoup losses. There are several types of people who play the game. The competitor might sell her off and use those resources to level up the next big thing and that is perfectly understandable. A person who is best described as a collector would rather slit their wrists than get rid of a 4* character they spent so much time working towards even if they never actually play her again. These players are in a lose lose situation where they cannot keep the old character, but if they keep the new weaker version they get absolutely nothing in return...

It is not as simple as the poll suggests. The person who bought the covers right after winning the PVE where Thora was awarded has gotten so far a very different return and benefit from using her than the person who bought them one month ago or the person who is buying them right now. You see, the actual value in buying a cover is the time it saves you. You can choose not buy a single cover and spend months building a character or you can choose buying the covers and gain and edge over everyone else who is not doing it.

Those who bought the covers right away should receive nothing. Those who bought them a day before the nerf announcement should get the option to keep the covers or sell them a the same price they bought them for.

And those who are buying them these days, unaware of the nerf, should be compensated with a one-week trip to Taihiti where they would be served unlimited amounts of the junk food and drinks of their choice, catered by a stable of dozens of nubile virgins from all ethnicities.
  • Right. Which is why a time window needs to be used. There is some cutoff somewhere where the act of buying a Thor cover earned you more than it cost you in terms of gameplay. I personally feel that timeline is 2 months prior to the change, so any cover bought after January 23rd should be refunded, or maybe optionally refunded with a popup, "Hey, do you regret having this cover, sell back for 2500 imcoin.png (and lose the cover)"

It's a difficult question to answer. I only bought one cover 3 weeks ago, so the iso sink hurts more.

I would trade any compensation right now for an open and honest discussion with the devs (not from HiFi, sorry dude!) about their long-term vision of the game and stance on 4*s. At least with that, we'd know how to continue playing this game a bit smarter.
  • Interesting, so the general feel is to get the whole amount back or to be able to partially sell individual covers.

i say nothing back. They can change the game at anytime and we all know that. This is like saying if they take the PVE and turn them into Deadpool daily and do away with how the pve is ran today then i should be able to get all the money i put into this game back cause they changed the game and i will no longer play it.

They will never give me my cash back saying they have the right to change the game, so whatever they give you, you should be happy.

    10 HP Per Cover

  • OOOH! Can I sell all my 4*s for 2500 HP each? I've got 11 IW's, a Starlord, 4 Elektras, 6 Dinos, and 2 GThors 60,000 Hero Points, please.

    That should do me.
  • I think what I would consider to be fairest, but not possible without work, would be to give ppl the option to reduce their Thor to 1/1/1 (assuming it's over 1 in each of those else add zeros where applicable) and refund all the ISO spent.

As for covers (and therefore the HP part of the equation) I would say the best option, that is as fair as possible without warping the game economy by flooding it with HP, is to give ppl "universal 4* covers" on a one for one basis for each cover removed from their 4Thor. Those tokens can be applied to any 4* hero (including back on Thor I guess) of their choice as an upgrade (requiring 1 cover in said cover to start upgrading).

That would allow ppl to essentially move their/time/effort (however they got the 4Thor covers) from 4Thor to another character who they would presumably have spent resources on instead of 4Thor had she been released in this state.

An argument that could be made against this idea is that ppl could have earned 4Thor covers with placements alone then move all those covers to, say, Xavier (or indeed a new 4* when it comes out) where there hasn't been the opportunity to earn the newer characters' covers in that manner. It's a problem with universal approaches to compensation (although this is more refunding than compensation but you get the idea). Just look at the covers being given for connectivity. I, for one had zero connectivity issues at all but if I reinstalled the game and logged on I would be getting the same stuff as ppl who genuinely were impacted by the problem. Unless they have the time/facilities to go through ppl on a case by case basis I think you are left needing to be excessively generous to one section of players to avoid being unreasonable to another.

I expect the normal fairly insulting sale rate though (just from prior experience) so that's a thing.
