How are defensive teamups determined?

Title. I notice people having the weirdest teamups like web slinger. I'm assuming no one is using bagman, so how is it determined?

If I equip a teamup and don't use it, will that be my defensive teamup or is it random?

Randomly chosen from the teamups that you have.
  • I don't think it's limited to teamups you have; I think it can be literally anything; they're just randomly determined.

Pretty sure j12601 showed that it's not truly random, that your team and the opposing team compositions are the driving force.

For instance, OBW-AWolvie-Falcon against Moonstone-Yelena-Daken will always have an AI Onslaught TU.

What I mean is that it's not determined by the teamups you have on hand, though. It doesn't surprise me if it isn't truly random, since I've seen some patterns repeat themselves a lot.

Is there a scaling factor to it as well? I want to say that higher level teams get higher level TUs, which would be appropriate and one reason that TUs supplanted Environmental powers, which didn't scale.

In any case, I'm also pretty sure it's not chosen from your personal pool. Players hoard powerful TUs as it is, so if a personal pool was used, we would all know it and we would all hoard high level TUs and delete the rest. Even now, I've got a bunch of lvl 270 X-Force TUs saved up for desperate situations. When have you ever seen the AI with one of those?

Forgive Jamie Madrox, for him the AI does randomly choose from his personal pool, which only consists of Lvl 270 Surgical Strikes.

That would be interesting. I know I see IW's FFC way more often than I would think is random.

Wow, that's a bit annoying. So then It really means nothing if I save up good TUs in my pool?

Defensive Team ups level are determined by the player, what the ratio is I don't know. What type of TU's show up are based on the characters avaiable in that event's token pack

It means you have good TUs to use on offense later, but that's all.

If you could determine your defense TUs, pretty soon everyone would have a set of 20 awesome TUs that they never use again.

I tend to horde my TU's and have a lovely collection that are 166+. No, I'm never going to use my level 306 thunderous clap I don't think. Maybe in a splurge before I retire.

Well, right now it has the effect of being completely useless half the time. When the AI has a TU that relies on a specific color, it's ususally just wasted turns. You should be able to have some say in what your defensive TU is.

I do the same....I have about 18x 395s. I need to use them, but they are too pretty just sitting there.
