Another name change canidate

edited November 2014 in MPQ General Discussion
A while back I read a thread where IceX changed the name of some player from something offensive to something hilarious. We all laughed and then the thread was locked and tossed in the bin for recycling.

I found another name worthy of being changed to Sparkle Pony 24 or whatever.
His name is "fuuuuuuxk off" and he is in the alliance Nissart

He's an obvious new player who joined during the Anniversary week because his highest level hero is icon_devildino.png with a 0/1/5 build.

    It's a juvenile name, but nowhere near as offensive as that last one discussed here.
  • Lately, I found "Etron" (means sh*t in French) and also dysanterea...

    Sorry, looks like only poop stories make me laugh. icon_e_biggrin.gif

    Agree. This one is juvenile, but if we change every screen name that can be offensive, we get into a level of censorship that no one will like. As to the last name, that was referring to something that people just should not make jokes about.

    This one is something that I would report to CS and let them decide. I'm not aware of the guidelines they go by for things like this, but if it were my decision, I would probably change it a bit, but not too much. Just clean it up a bit. Maybe switch out some letters for symbols or something. But thats just my opinion.
  • well,

    My ign is dysenteriae i just want to tel you why i choose this pseudo it's a long story (and i'm french be kind with me). It's an old pseudo and a pseudo never use everywhere i create an account. I just want to have one username to remember and that is not already used and it lasts for more than 15 years. I can not put the full name of the bacteria "shigella dysenteriae" too long.

    Funny thing I was banned with my nickname "dysenteriae" here because I have not posted but I could not post. I sent a ticket, but it shall not helped me had no solution could be found. I just start and I hope it will work.
  • Just reminds me of "You have died of dysentery."

    Yesterday saw username fck. I agree it gets into a slippery slope when you start censoring. What if someone picked the name fcuk because they were an employee there? For the OP, the name sort of sounds self-directed so not as offensive. The name iceix changed had to do with ****, which isn't cool anywhere.

    The name iceix changed had to do with tinykitty, which isn't cool anywhere.

    Could somebody who knows the background of this please describe in polite detail the actual nature of the original name? It's really hard when every rude word is changed to reflect a small cat. Was it racist or scatalogical, or...?

    I can't even process to guess what daibar was trying to say. What, "isn't cool anywhere," but goes by a name that can't be seen on this message board? It's a mystery. It's giving me mysentery.

    This is kind of like license plates. There are certain words that the system blocks by default. In Virginia the DMV has a group of categories that cannot be used such as ... but people just come up with alternate spellings to circumvent the system. I see that a lot here. Most of time its not a big deal because I know this is a game and nothing I read can even compare to the garbage I hear over xbox live. But there are igns and alliances that are definately offensive out there. Its to much of a pain for me to be a name sheriff I just ignore it.
    Guidelines for Issuing a Personalized License Plate
    The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will not approve an application for a personalized license plate if the requested plate contains any combination of characters that in any way carries a connotation which may reasonably be seen by a person viewing the license plate as:
    Profane, obscene, or vulgar in nature;
    Sexually explicit or graphic;
    Excretory-related;
    Used to describe intimate body parts or genitals;
    Used to describe drugs, drug culture, or drug use;
    Used to condone or encourage violence;
    Used to describe illegal activities or illegal substances;

    A reference to Oregon Trail? Memories...

    Agree it's a tough call on what's appropriate. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the alliance named the N-word, with "er" changed to "ã". I was like, meh, but I would imagine that would upset at least some people -- I suspect at least some MPQ players are children as well, right? I'm not sure how to search for this name as the search option doesn't seem to allow for inputting characters with the special inflections above the letter, but I did take a screenshot a while back.
