Oh wow! This is incredibly ambitious considering the complicated (and often conflicting!) rules & regulations around raffles & lotteries in different jurisdictions like the USA, EU, and UK.
**One thing that’s definitely required but notably missing is explaining exactly how you’ll be picking the four winners. **
I’m sure your legal department has been hard at work figuring out how to navigate announcing the winners: in the USA the winners must be announced but in the EU & UK the winners must be given a chance to opt out.
What a fun puzzle for you! @Magic:PQ Support Team

Hi @fenelope, I'm trying to understand the intention of this post.
Is it so that you, an expert in torts and legal processes across multiple nations, may outline the pitfalls, and how the potential legal costs on any side outweigh the harms from a very benign offer?
Is it so that you can test support for a class action response for if (when?) you don't win the prize, in hopes that it's not just you individually complaining about a PW that you probably wouldn't even use much anyway?
Is it so that you can highlight the importance of other salient issues that Webcore could be working on by ironically/passive-aggressively posting about a trivial gesture?
I'm honestly confused, because I'd hate to think this was another in your line of cynical preening that borders on concern trolling.

Why are you like this @fenelope ?The proper response is just... Hey, WC, Thanks!
Is that so hard? lol
I thought I’d point it out before they got into trouble… but I suppose it’s useful to know you’d rather they spend their money on future lawsuits instead of, I dunno, paying the devs or a community manager or proofreaders or whatever. Maybe you can make a YouTube video about why rules are dumb actually?

Sounds like a preemptive threat that you're already intending to sue? Tell you what, when you hire a lawyer that will take on this LOLsuit (likely a bottom-feeder on a contingency fee looking for an easy settlement) and front the court fees across the many jurisdictions affected, please post that information here so we can all join for what will surely be a massive recovery value.

You’re frequently confused and it’s great to ask questions—that’s how we learn, right?
If I wanted to be a legal test-case, I would’ve waited until after they’d done it instead of flagging it up for review while there’s still time to think things through properly.
This sort of short-sighted thinking is typical of webcore’s consistent failure to take an idea to its logical conclusion and, in some cases, there’s a very real advantage to trying things to see if they work but, in other cases (like this!) its best to let the legal team have a look first.
I’d rather the dev team spend time/effort/money on actually improving the game instead of things that could cause problems for them later. Why’s that such an unpopular opinion?

...but you didn't flag it up for review to Webcore. You decided instead to grandstand on the internet. Although I suppose it had to be done this way, as there are literally no other ways to communicate other than to sardonically and anonymously post on an online forum within an hour of announcement.

So let's take your post to its logical conclusion as well. Presuming as you do that they didn't have their legal team vet this, then it's plainly obvious that they didn't follow the law (as you, a multinational legal expert, have so helpfully pointed out). So the ensuing case should be a slam dunk with clear recovery for the massive harm you faced, no? Assuming they go forward with the prize, we should expect details on your filed lawsuit sometime after February 20? Don't worry, since this is a super important legal matter I'll post helpful reminders here, just as you posted weekly follow-ups on the high-priority Clash animation concern.
I’d rather the dev team spend time/effort/money on actually improving the game instead of things that could cause problems for them later. Why’s that such an unpopular opinion?
I actually agree on focusing on improving the game. That's why I think most people, including myself, disagree with you with what constitutes "a problem", the level of importance that you're affording it, and the manner in which you're presenting it.

On a more helpful note, Space Beleren is not available as a choice. He may be an Uncard, but he does have the Jace subtype!

@Magic:PQ Support Team thank you so much for your quick response—I’m sure everyone will be excited to help you celebrate the holiday! 💕Sigh... why do you play this game @fenelope ?
You're so unhappy about... well... everything about it.
Is there NOTHING they do that is above your snark and negativity?
Suggestion...
Why not instead invest that precious energy and time in something that meets your high standards and be positive on something?
Or is it true... That haters are only happy hating on others fun?

Can we do a Fenlope vs Goz in a sanctioned MTGPQ best of 5 match and stream it live .

Folks, while it's understandable that we have strong feelings about things we love, such as Magic: Puzzle Quest, let's remember that we expect everyone to treat others with respect in these forums and in-game communications.
I'd rather not have to edit comments.

Why does everyone getting 295 crystals instead of only 4 people winning a poorly thought out lottery somehow ruin this event for you?

Got to this a bit late, so not sure what info was given in the OP about how the giveaway or rewards were gonna work before it's axe update. While there was a bit of a sarcastic tone used, the concerned raised did seem a valid heads-up to keep the team safe, and how else could they have said it?
On the paper side of MtG, I follow a lot of YouTubers such as The Magic Historian and Pleasant Kenobi, who often probably come off as ragging on the game and what companies are doing on that side of things, and that they'll admit it kinda is but that it does come from a care about the game and wanting it to continue, so I could see the stance here as, yes sorry but on season, one out of love.
A few years back, I was worried that the higher-ups could have been looking for any chance to shut our side of the game down, as in Puzzle Quest, whether to drive their traffic to other stuff or simply to turn an ever slighter chance of "profit". So, I was glad when WebCore came on the scene, and even later when it seemed like they were getting to work along side WotC a little bit more, which perhaps reflects in how they are being able to release new sets on our side much more promptly, even if there isn't always a definite heads-up as to when (such as no spoiler season this last time). But working more in line, paired with the increased release schedule that others have criticized, that may lead to part of this less communication that we have been facing, perhaps on their side stemming from keeping a lid on what is coming up and how it will be implemented/translated until WotC is ready and has given out on their side, if that makes sense.
Because yeah, our side is often its own little thing, to where we might not convert to other stuff, but the hints that drop here could be significant (ala the returning relevance of Bolas before Paper's lore reveal that he got to get free of the Meditation Realm during Tarkir Dragonstorm.
But yeah, tangents, tangents everywhere. I just hope we can stay safe over here.

Yeah @wraszowixuXuxi both the contest itself and the "call out" seem to have come from a place of good intentions? This resolution seems like a win for everyone and I'm glad that someone raised the alarm to keep the game safe and I'm happy that webcore was able to correct the problem in a way that gives everyone a reason to celebrate!

I came to check here after the inbox message. While I don't entirely understand what the (legal) issue is, I only want to vent that I was - for once - very happy with the new idea the devs had. I love the flavor of the event, the event itself and the thrill of having the chance of winning a planeswalker. Makes me think back to the good ol' days where we could win Saheeli Rai. Sure, I participate and hope to be one of the winners, but quite frankly, I don't care if I don't win the grand prize. I had a lot of fun playing the event and enjoyed the devs' creativity. For once, they are trying to do something good and it backfires. Such a shame. Well, for what it's worth, I don't agree with how this community and forum have been "managed" lately, but this idea and corresponding event are well worth a "thank you" from me.
