Notes:

We’ve been doing a lot of work behind-the-scenes in MPQ (with still plenty more to do) on setting the groundwork for improving performance, fixing historic issues, and allowing us to generally work more efficiently and flexibly with the game. Because of the complexity of MPQ as a game, this will be ongoing for at least the medium term as we work through all the parts that make up the infrastructure.

That said, we are balancing that work with making sure we also deliver some things to you folks to (hopefully) improve things a bit more for you now!

Quality of Life

Download All Assets Option

  • In the Options menu, there is now an option to Download All Assets
  • This should reduce stuttering, especially with the game visuals

Known Issues

  • There may be reduced performance while assets are downloading in the background

Battery Saver Mode

  • In the Options menu, we have added the option to switch to “Battery Saver”
  • This limits the game to 30FPS to attempt to minimise battery drain, especially on more limited devices
  • This should also assist with overheating

Known Issues

  • When enabling the Battery Mode on Steam, it attempts to cap the framerate at a framerate as close to 30FPS as possible based on your monitor refresh rate. This means that a 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz screen will cap to 30FPS, but weirder refresh rates like 144Hz (or higher), or 75Hz may use a framerate that is not 30FPS. This is to provide the best possible experience for your specific device without introducing issues like Screen Tearing, or Uneven Frame Pacing.

Descending Heroes for Events

  • We had feedback that not being able to use specific Heroes in events requiring them because you Ascended them (or not Ascending them because you needed them for events) really wasn’t the best experience
  • In 338, we have added functionality that will Descend any required Heroes who have been Ascended above the cap for the event
    • This will only apply to that event. Your Heroes will not be permanently Descended.
    • The Descended Heroes will be viewable in the Pre-Battle Roster
    • Descended Heroes will also match Health with their Ascended counterpart using the percent of their remaining Health.
e.g. If your original character has 50% health, your Descended character will also have 50% Health. This also applies the other way, so look after your Descended characters! If they are downed or injured, your Ascended character will also be Downed or Injured.
    • Using a Health Pack on a Descended character will also fully heal the Ascended character.

Known Issues

  • (Fixed in 339) Descendable Heroes do not use their max level in some circumstances
  • (Fixed in 339) If you have multiple of the same Character being Descended, only one of them can be used.

Roster Slot Token Changes

  • Gaining a Roster Slot Token will no longer increase the Hero Point cost of a Roster Slot

    • e.g. If I have 7 Slots, adding 1 more would cost 100HP or a Roster Slot Token.
If I use a Roster Slot Token, the next slot would still cost 100HP.

    • Note: This only applies to any Roster Slots gained from Tokens after this update

  • 4 new Roster Slot Tokens are being added at the point you gain a new Hero in the “A Worldwide Web” Mission at the beginning of the game.

  • When the change goes live (shortly after the release of 338) mail will be sent to all players containing 250 Hero Points

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Step-Up Bundle issue where players would receive the contents of the previous Step-Up instead of the current
  • Minor UI fixes
  • “General performance optimisations scattered through the game” - Warmest Regards, Cam
  • “General de-janking” - Love, Lexa

The new character has been seen already in game. Additional clue: the same thing that happens to everything else.

The QOL and other changes look good and beneficial to players.

    Thanks!

Descending fixes a bunch of dumb DDQ problems and is a great idea!

    Thanks!

Guessing from that additional clue it's Toad since the reference is a line from the 1st X-Men movie.

@S0kun : Another feature we need, at least for those who have devices with limited or near maxed out storage is an option to 'not download animation assets' when the player has 'no animations' checked. That and sound assets are probably a huge chunk of the required storage.

Overall sounds like this is going to be a good update.

Now this is an update! Thank you! Looking forward to it and hopefully resolves any lingering issues.

Maybe in a few months, the Infinity Plus team can refine the code to make the game run smoother.

As what someone mentioned previously, it's probably Toad. Since he was already queued in the polls in 2024 and 2025, here's the cover.

Astonishing X-Men, Vol 4. Issue #3. September 2017. Villain Variant Cover. Cover Artist: Ed Mcguinness

But we all know it'll be another Spiderman :D

an option to 'not download animation assets

The largest asset is actually character/mission data that gets pushed every day or two, and MPQ doesn't automatically clean up the old/invalid data.

BCS (wrongly) tried to fix the "continuous growth" problem, by clearing almost all the data on each major release several releases back.

Since R327 was released, there have been about a 18 minor releases (data pushes)
each are almost 20MB, equaling roughly 300MB of wasted space.

While removing animations, and music are one way to get the size down.
Offering lower res phone assets and stopping continuous growth are better options.

Hmm, not sure if this is related, but the new 5* cp store only feature 2 5* and 1 4? Doesn't look like worth the pull... Though the vault having 1 guaranteed 5 is a nice touch...

Slight update that R338 is now live. If you notice any improvements on battery life or performance, PLEASE share your experience so we can continue to optimize the game.

How much storage is it supposed to use? It's asking me if I wanted to dl 2.7gb on my iPad. My iPad shows that the app currently is 1.46gb. Seems like a lot...

Also just checked my android phone: 2.26gb download, 850mb on phone already.

    This is consistent with others.

The download seems to include every darn thing you might need including all event art. Or something.

If it basically stops there it’ll still be lower than it was when BCS stopped clearing the memory at all. I was up to 5.52 gb in data on my iPhone.

Yeah, it's just weird that the dl is ~3x what's already on the device. I haven't had any issues with assets loading, so I'm dumbfounded by what's missing on my devices that necessitates a dl that big.

    Agree, it’s kind of weird.

There’s always the option of not downloading everything and letting the game do it on demand.

Tried to clarify this with the devs.
2.7GB is roughly the total we would expect it to be on iOS/Android. However, we don't exactly know with a great degree of certainty whether the incoming assets will overwrite the assets already there, or if they will just continue to hang around in the cache (partly because when and how assets have been added to the cache can impact the answer). There are cleanup processes, but they are messy. Another thing for us to continue to dig into.

I updated and downloaded everything and despite looking like more, I ended up about 0.1 gb under what my total install was before the update.

Anyway, I’m hoping it doesn’t grow much but it’s less installed than it appeared it would be. Still kind of a big install for what the graphics are etc.

I dunno that it’s the best comparison but my Contest of Champions app size is 2.41 gb and that’s a fully animated 3d model fighting game.

Edit: there’s a button showing more downloading I can do on the option screen. I’m not sure why. Size is 1.13 gb.

Maybe I’m jumping the gun, but if you download all the assets, and turn on that battery save mode, it seems to have fixed all the gameplay problems for me. The game is very fast. There is no lag, there is no freezing so far, great job on the update!

I hope I'm not speaking too early but as someone who already seemed to experience fewer problems than many this is, so far, the most playable the game has been in 8 or 9 months.
