5* Swordmaster

The fact the damage ramp on his black is actively hindered by his own ability is ridiculous. It's not easy matching 3 locked tiles because they're all bloody locked.
Such an odd choice

They gave him away in the Season Pass so we shouldn't be surprised that he's a duffer. I'm not normally much of a hoarder but I am seriously tempted once we are looking at Sable/Iron Man/Swordwaster as the latest 3 to rack up some resources. On the subject of 5*, will we get Wonder Man? I've only watched 2 episodes so far and from what I can tell they have decided to make a TV show about making a TV show so we can all understand the world of making TV shows and it has been as exiting as that sounds. Now I'm not saying it is bad or anything but it really has nothing to do with being a Marvel show and gives this game very little to work with so far. So they might just go ahead and skip him? If so then a comic book accurate version can pop up at some point. I really would like to finish the West Coast Avengers so Tigra and ""Silver Centurion" Iron Man costume please!
Where were we? Oh yes, Swordbloke isn't very good.

His abilities would be having the audacity to challenge the writers script, being self centered and prepping for his roles in awkwardly outlandish ways.
To that, I must say I loved the show. Wonder Man was refreshingly good.

Yeah the show itself is fine and we knew all along it was not standard MCU.
I'm mostly hoping to avoid another Monica Rambeau situation where we get Amazon drone delivery, newspaper and tiger raaah charge for animations!

The next 5* character was found in code and it's not Wonder Man (no other spoilers, you'll see them in a few days), so my guess is they aren't doing any release the show unless he's a 4. Which he could be? As part of African American history month?
I don't think he even puts on the suit in the show, but maybe I'm wrong there. A dude in normal clothes would be an interesting release choice.
Anyway who knows? I am fine either way, there are enough characters, really. Unless it's Mojo, we need him for sure.

I'm in no hurry for him.
We probably should not continue this conversation, "found in code" is a breach of MPQ rules and people in the past tended to post "guesses" that were implausibly right...

lol whether I say that or not someone will post the correct answer for a clue if one is posted. But otoh usually that’s part of a release note post and we probably won’t get a release before the new character announcement? Well. Maybe. We didn’t get any for LiL Iron Fist.

This is literally the most awful 5* in ages. I cannot find a single team where he shines

Haven’t bothered levelling him, or giving him a try, but just from looking at him on paper I would certainly agree.
Anyone that generates locked tiles on my roster never gets any ISO or a second thought (except maybe jubilee because of the insta-win button)1 -
Yeah they're the most annoying, poorly utilized special tile at the moment. How the hell are you even supposed to "unlock" three of them when you can't make any blood matches because they're all locked?

This would make them soooo much better and easier to play with. Would require coding ownership of the locked tile, rather than them being neutral, but this is clearly possible, as Killmonger sets a precedence for slightly different locked tile behaviour.
Would really give locked tile characters a new lease on life (or a first outing for most).@TheMigz perhaps you can throw this into your bucket of ideas for design improvement? Appreciate it will be some time further down the road.

Board destruction powers like Juggernaut green work great too.

Meant to say, absolutely agree with this.
There’s absolutely no reason the damage bonus should reset when firing his black. Why not just let this snowball a bit? It’s hardly going to break the power ‘budget’ on an 8 cost power that’s reasonably hard to achieve the ramp conditions for.
Would give people an ongoing incentive to bother matching the locked tiles. Instead it’s just a feels bad moment whenever you fire it and you’re back to square one.
I imagine he’ll work quite well with infini-Hawkeye, creating crit tiles and generating loads of red. But then who doesn’t work well with a character that can pretty much solo all content?0 -

If he ends up seeing any play at all it'll be because his red is cheap and scales up well, especially against supernatural enemies, and he has a turn0-castable stun.
Often we evaluate characters based on the flashier or more unique mechanics, and miss the obvious stuff. The pre release discussion on Golden Oldie was like this -- we spent a ton of time talking about her ability to auto-kill somebody with blue, and missed that her AOE is completely insane, because it looked boring in comparison.

Red herring or not in this instance, I think the locked tile mechanic as a whole needs overhauling.
And I’m by no means saying his black is exciting. It’s just a pretty basic ‘press button to do damage’ power, and if adjusted as I’ve previously theorised, it wouldn’t even necessarily be classed as ‘good’, but it would be significantly better than its current state of ‘awful’.
I too believe that the red is the most interesting/useful thing about this character. Has anyone been able to test/confirm if it half healths any supernatural opponent?0 -

Like I said the locked tile business with him is just way too much work for way too little reward.
I'm honestly not sure how you could even rework that to make it worthwhile. Not resetting the damage on cast is a start but I think I'd probably still ignore it -- there are just too many significantly more powerful things I could be doing instead of screwing around with locked tiles. Maybe if he locked and unlocked stuff passively?

Would we want that? I look at OsCorp Spidey as one of my most despised characters (in terms of mechanics)

I suppose that depends. If the locking and unlocking stuff made up for being annoying by being super powerful, then I could put up with whatever annoyance.
That's the thing they (somehow, still) don't get about designing powers. If something has a downside on it, like costing a ton of AP, doing self damage, or locking up the board, it needs to make up for that by being really good. A 13AP power needs to basically win the game for you. Something that does self damage needs to be way, way stronger than something that doesn't. Passives should never be stronger than actives.
