Stuck on red Marvel logo after update

Once again the latest update causes the game to freeze on the red Marvel startup logo. Can’t get into the game now no matter how many times I reset the app or my phone. I’m on iPhone.

Dude, you have NO idea what you’re talking about! I have the fastest internet available. There is nothing slow about the connection. In fact, it has something to do with the updates because it ONLY happens after EVERY update.

The problem is the game, currently as designed, removes all assets with each revision or update. This was the "solution" to app bloat which kept everything and had some players well over 5 gb of space.

Updating the app itself is fast because the file size is small. Then you launch the game and it has to remove all the assets because that's what it's instructed to do when you update it to a new Revision. That's what you're waiting for, the game to erase all the assets that you THEN end up downloading again.

Just FYI, paying for the fastest internet available doesn't mean getting the fastest internet available. Lots of ISPs throttle your connection for various reasons, and sometimes they just straight-up lie about what they're selling you. It's worth checking on it to make sure, you can find various speed tests online or in the app store.

I’m pretty sure you hit the nail on the head with this one. Not sure if the latest update was supposed to fix this or not, but it’s still crashing and freezing randomly even after doing the full data download.

You are correct about some ISPs throttling your bandwidth. However that’s not the case for me. My connection is running well over 700Mbps.

Ok good! Sorry, I wasn't calling you out, just kind of wanted to throw it out there. Maybe it'll help someone else.

No worries. It could definitely be an issue for some, just not my issue.

What model of iPhone do you have?

Where are you located (US or elsewhere). MPQ has servers all over the world. The most servers are in the US so response and download times tend to be fast. But if you are in a country that has few servers then even if you have 700 Mbps you could get slow data from the MPQ server itself if it's heavily loaded down. So when I meant slow connection I didn't necessarily mean your personal one.

As it is only happening DIRECTLY after an update and doesn’t freeze on the MARVEL logo any other time, I’m sure, like @bluewolf said, that it is something to do with the game attempting to erase and then download all of the data. After 4 or 5 forced resets the game loads and plays fine. I would be hard pressed to believe that, by sheer coincidence, EVERY time I update and ONLY when I update that there is any lag in speed that only lasts the minute or two directly after the update.

I do agree though that it could be related to my phone, I’m on an iPhone 11 Pro so it’s definitely not the newest model. And obviously not everyone is experiencing this issue. I’m just 100% sure it isn’t an internet speed or connection problem.

I'm in the US, I have 308 or so mbps download and fiber optic connection. And there was a hangup on starting the app the first time.

The issue isn't even the connection on the initial launch of the app after the update because it's purging the memory from the device itself, internally, because that's the instructions that the game has built into each update. Purge everything so the bloat is fixed.

NOW we can download all assets so we aren't doing it piecemeal.

I want to expand on what Bluewolf said.
In v334 BCS introduced an automatic: "Clear all your downloaded assets (cache) if new version is detected" feature.
In v338 IP2 introduced a "Download all assets" feature.

When v339+ is introduced, if IP2 does not remove what BCS introduced, there will be a lot more people complaining about "stuck on black screen with red Marvel logo"
Why? As mentioned, the more files you you have, the longer it takes to delete them.
Previously people might have downloaded "on demand" 1-2GB of assets.
If you pressed the "Download all", next update you will have more files to delete.

Depending on how fast your storage is, I've seen people mention waiting 3-15 minutes for the deletion.
To Bluewolf's point, after the deletion, you also need a fast network connection. (because everything was removed and re-downloaded)

Side note: In Discord there is also a topic on this.

As a software developer there is no way I'd delete everything first and then download all the new stuff after the deletion finished. There is no reason not to be doing both simultaneously (that's what our software does).
