Amazon AppStore is currently unavailable

Support for Amazon’s Appstore SDK has recently been removed from the Unity platform, which means we’re currently unable to process purchases directly through the Amazon version of the app. There are a few solutions that our team is exploring, but since this issue is out of our control, we currently don't have an estimate for when it will be fixed.

If you're an Amazon player and would like to do a workaround, our Customer Support team can enable crossplay on other devices like iOS, Android, or Steam for your account. This will enable you to make purchases through those stores while keeping all of your existing progress.

Please reach out to our Customer Service team here if you'd like to set up this workaround: http://mpq.social/cs

Your money’s still no good here if you’re an Amazon-only player.

Still kind of suspicious this is a lowkey effort to drive away Kindle players in general since it’s got to be a tiny fragment of the overall market.

Also maybe Unity justly hates Jeff Bezos as much as the rest of us. 🤣

He’s got enough money. Make his own game engine. lol.

Wow, didn't know you could buy a golf cart for $20. Hope it lasts a while! (sarcasm)

Hey, that $20 will buy you at least 7 or 8 brand new Kindle devices! And this year, they're almost powerful enough to run all the most popular Nokia games from 1998!

I'm sure the megawhale population is exclusively playing on bargain-basement Amazon-branded potatoes. Without access to the Amazon app store they're likely losing tens of dollars per year!

Good life lesson: don’t apologize for things you’re not actually sorry about.

Ahem: it’s explain the joke time!

An actual golf cart for adults (not little kids) on Amazon costs something like $4400. (I am not looking at any other sites but assuming that’s in the ballpark anywhere you go.)

The “can’t buy stuff on Amazon store” bug is at most 2 months old, probably a bit less. It was in place before this thread.

If one could take one’s savings from not being able to spend on MPQ, and buy a golf cart, that would mean one was spending something like $2200-3000 a month on MPQ. Which….fine? Maybe some do. But I presume one of those people isn’t @SaltyRepertoire48.

Hence my joke, exaggerating for comedy effect the idea of taking what a normal-ish amount of spend is (probably $20-30 for most people who aren’t whales) and using it to buy a golf cart when it wouldn’t even buy the enclosure that goes over it.

I….am not upset but still a bit amused by the whole idea that it would be something of a benefit to a small struggling dev team to abandon support for a platform with very few users, and be able to justify it by saying “well, they can’t spend anyway”.

I'm one of those few and am happily (relatively) playing this "no cash" version of the game.
My only Charlie Brown Christmas walk thing is I can't buy costumes anymore. (Yes, I know that the solution in the main post is there if I want it, but I purposely bought and installed MPQ on an amazon potato to limit my playtime)

I'm more of a dolphin or walrus. I buy/bought costumes, VIP, and cheap lightning deals - basically anything that looked good for < $10. Since amazon coins went away, I couldn't get the cost savings anymore, so spending was even more down for me personally when the Unitiy decision was made to break their IAP API connection to the amazon marketplace.

Funnily, my old amazon potato just couldn't run MPQUnity, period. The Appstore had big red text that said [NOT COMPAITBLE] and wouldn't allow me to download that build version. So I bought a new potato, one with the red racing stripe and speed holes, and the play experience has been probably one of the best for MPQUnity. I didn't experience the majority of the crashes, overheating, pauses, lag, etc. that everyone else was/is reporting. So its a bit of a shame that one of the best pieces of hardware for running MPQ can't chip in anymore.

. . . And yes, I did misspell @entrailbucket and yes, it is a reference to Keeping Up Appearances

Just out of curiosity I did a Google search for how much Amazon players spend on mobile games in general. The AI overview says that in 2024 players worldwide spend $82 billion on mobile games, and Apple was $47.7 billion while Google Play was $33.3 billion. That comes to $81 billion.

I am not sure if all the rest of the possibly billion dollars left over came via Amazon or various combinations of other sources - like the fact that you can now go to websites to directly spend on games with the publishers, etc etc. But 1/82 would be 1.22% of overall spending.

Obviously more than nothing but also potentially a lot of work to maintain a whole separate version of your game for 1.2% of its overall revenue depending on how much work is involved.

I can relate a bit to "you can't spend" because in beta all purchases were frozen and if you ask me now what I missed etc, and if I care about missing some costumes or something, the answer is a resounding "no". And I'm not about to blow thousands to speed up 6* acquisition to win more and wouldn't have and when I do spend a little I usually kind of regret it because the devs don't care to make the game significantly better.
